For #10...the driver seat gets moved automatically forward when you start the car, therefore the leg space for passengers in the back gets to normal level. And for #2, my 2008 V6 has memory seats. So yes, there is an upper trim level, including dynaudio, central and rear blocking differential.

Hello Josh...I stumbled by accident on your channel and now it's quickly becoming my favorite. Although I live half way across the world from you (by the way, I've lived in Utah before so it's really nice to see the familiar scenery when you're out and about) but I also have a 2005 and a 2009 Touareg. Both have the V6 engine, the T1 has the older, weaker 3.2, but the T2 has the much better 3.6 FSI, which for my purposes makes me not need a V8. I've got a really strong love\hate relationship with my Touaregs, and this ties into the subject of this video. I agree with some of your points, and have some of my own that usually drive me nuts. These are: 1. Headlights: apart from the fact that they're not that bright, to remove and replace them is craziest thing I've ever seen. What would have been the problem with using a few screws to attach them to the body, like other cars? Oh no, VW engineers had to smoke something unmentionable to device some convoluted mechanism that requires having a mounting bracket with guides and little plastic bits that can easily break and a lock, just to hold the headlight. On the T2 (2nd gen) it's marginally easier, but on T1's it's so horrendous that it requires a special tool to turn some pin on the mounting bracket. This pin, of course, is mounted on a part of the bracket so thin that it easily breaks, so now your headlight won't lock or release, so you have to remove the bumper to replace the stupid thing. 2. Rear hatch struts: yet another brilliant engineering feat by the brilliant VW engineers who decided to tuck the rear hatch struts between the headliner and the roof, just to make it as complicated as possible. In most SUVs and station-wagons, you pop the hatch, hold it open with something, remove the struts which are right there in front of you, and put in the new ones. Simple. Try replacing the Touareg's rear hatch struts (T1 & T2). They had to hide them in the roof, so you have to disassemble half the headliner and various trim pieces in the vicinity thereof just to find out that you will still shred your hands trying to get to them. 3. Driver door handle and main window switch: Why VW, WHY? In order to replace both of those you will, of course, need to remove the door panel and disassemble various parts. And if the plastic and foam that holds the door handle has pretty much disintegrated like on my T1, you have no choice but to either live without a door handle, or replace the whole panel. One thing you mentioned regarding the spare tire: who in their right mind gives you a deflated spare tire, then makes the air pump and optional extra?! Headliners, yup, on both my Tregs. I think the T1's seats were closely related to those on the Cayenne of the same generation so maybe that's why they are more comfortable. T2's split a bit more further away from the Cayenne. Sorry for the long rant. I really enjoy watching your videos on the Touaregs, and I do love these cars a lot that I don't think I'll get rid of my T2 as long as it stays alive. The T1 however is going soon, hopefully.

From the Philippines here. I own a 2004 3.2 vr6 gasoline touareg. It had a lot of issues: vaccum tubes, purge valve, air cleaner connecting pipe, broken head light backets, valve cover oil leak, driver side door lock and power window mechanism, headlight bulbs, outer tail lights, worn out rotors and brake pads. All filters and fluids replaced. Fan belt replaced. Space saver tire replaced with conventional tire. After all is said and done, touareg is a confortable, sturdy and safe car. It's different from the mainstream SUV's. Just maintain it properly and it will serve you well.

I definitely agree with you on the lack of memory function for the driving seat, I am twice as big as my wife, it's a total pain having to readjust the seat all the time. Not mad on the hand break either, steering is a bit wishy washy if I were being honest but other than that it's great. Early models had exceptional build quality.

2011s have more interior room. You have base model wheel and tire combo from Audi. They look ugly, sorry. For your backup camera you have a fault in the system, have it diagnosed and fixed. Your lighting, if it’s not hid that’s your issue along with the fact your lights are fogged. Yes your missing the air pump. If you take your time you won’t make a mess with your adblue. You’ve had a water leak and that’s why the headliner has dropped. Get it fixed. Memory seats are optional on all models of the Touareg. It was not a standard feature. Your older Touareg is a higher trim level then your diesel.

Thanks for the video, I can relate so some of the issues you mention... Light carpets in the trunk and cabin, solved by getting a boot liner. Still trying to source similar mats you have for the cabin. Fortunately my Touareg has the wheel carrier on the back, so no worries about space saver spare tyre for me.

The only things I hate about my 05 V8: High price tag. High maintenance costs and 14mpg. Everything else, I love. It is powerful, solid, comfortable, good towing up to 7000lbs and doing light off-road trips. I may do the dif. and transmission fluid soon. Coming up on 132K and she's still running well.

I have to agree with Cam Jones, most if not all gripes here are because its a used Touareg but no mechanical issues mentioned. I have a 2008 TDI and will agree on the headlights, they suck BUT its a great vehicle if you maintain it and most of the gripes can be fixed even the seats.

The worst thing about the spacesaver tire is that the full size tire still has to go somewhere! It can't fit where the space saver came out so if you are fully loaded some will have a dirt tire on their lap. Or on your tan carpets.

I think a majority of these are just picking through a used car that you specifically purchased... The DEF can be done with no spill (check humble mechanics video) air compressor is missing since it's used, and majority of the gripes are because it's used..majority can be fixed..

It is a Trim Level issue. Your older Treg has air suspension, thus is more likely the Top Trim level. The TDi simply is NOT. I have a 2010 TDi that is Top Trim Level with air suspension and has more seat controls and memory. Plus, this is my second 2010 TDi and my old one, Pre-Dieselgate , did NOT have air suspension. I do not think it had memory seats either. So, trim level is a solution. Sadly only 2010 had air suspension of the Treg 2 so far that I have found in the TDi searches and only a hand full had that HIGH trim level because it was a $15,995 upgrade option in 2010.

Use better HID bulbs. Basically ,you can get a brighter color. Like 5000-6500k. It's decent in my opinion.

here are the two things i hate about my touareg TDI- 1. diesel exhaust leaks from turbo, egr, and flex pipe- repair cost $4k. 2. failure of centre rubber around bearing on driveshaft - happened on a long trip to Canyon Lands from Canada on a holiday weekend. non repairable part meant new drive shaft (VW lingo- propeller shaft) $1700. make sure you catch it before it goes (makes odd squealing noise) and you can find a more economical fix and avoid buying a VW propeller shaft.

Air pump for the tire is under the shotgun passenger seat! Check your manual bro!

OK as an owner of a car that has real issues not a single one of these is a gripe. And you should be thrilled you have these issues.

Fyi if your touateg has air suspension theres a air valve under driver seat hidden that you can use to inflate the spare.

Looks like urea (adblue) got spilled all over the place in the trunk. The VW adblue containers allow filling without spilling a drop. I always have VW do it. Incase you don't know, VW has committed to refilling the adblue for the life of the car as part of the dieselgate settlement.

Wheel size: agreed, they should be bigger. Backup camera thing: maybe a software issue. Try updating the firmware of the unit. Headlights: you'd need to polish them, clean the lenses from the back and have the bulbs replaced (they get a lot dimmer with age), and you most likely would have a great light output. Spare tire: models with standard suspension come with a compressor included - your is missing. There's not compressor in the trunk of air suspension models, because the spare tire can be inflated from the air suspension air tank. Adblue fill port: it's moved to the regular fuel gas door on later models. It was an afterthought for this generation (earlier model years of the same didn't have AdBlue yet), and that's why it's so cumbersome. Headlining: it's most likely sagging because you had water ingress in the back because of clogged drain holes behind the plastic covers at the back door hinges. Memory seats: they were definitely an option since 2003 - some Touaregs have it, others don't. Seats: can't say anything about them, I liked my pre-FL seats just like the FL seats. Anyway, great video!

I have an '05 Touareg, thankfully it doesn't have the saggy headlighner issue. My theory is the saggy headliner is due to humid climates.
