Rabbits are amazing pets, but there are some aspects of rabbit care that are frustrating and surprising. They're the kind of thing that becomes part of daily life and are easy to overlook after you've had rabbits for a long time.

Bonding with rabbits feels so rewarding because it's hard to earn their trust it makes you appreciate the bond a lot more in my opinion, I also love how expressive they can be at times specially when they want attention or food haha

re: bonding with your rabbit. Very well said. The work is definitely worth the reward. The process is just as fun as the final product, or in this case, the final trust and behavior.

I highly recommend watching the full video but I always look for comments like these so... 1. Rabbits are more destructive than dogs 2. Hay is very difficult to clean 3. Rabbits poop a lot 4. Rabbit fur gets everywhere! 5. Rabbits are escape artists! 6. They like to thump in the middle of the night 7. Rabbits are very intelligent which is good but means they’re extra mischievous! 8. Rabbits are great companions just like cats and dogs! (SO WHY DO THEY GET STUFFED INTO CAGES FOR THEIR ENTIRE LFIE AHAHDHJDJSHSHZJSJZJ) 9. You’re going to want another

I learned something new again! Thumping to get attention. I spend many hours sitting at my desk studying and my rabbit would occasionally thump. I always thought she is annoyed with me and wants me out of "her" office. It never occured to me that she might just want attention. And yes, the sound is so loud, I jump with surprise! 😆

My first bun is currently sleeping at the foot of my bed with me. My family says I seem crazy to go through so much just to care for them, but I don't really mind. I treat them like they're my children. I always struggled with finding the right pet for me, but when my brother got a Rabbit, I instantly fell in love. It became my rabbit within a month...

Just a tip, the best thing I have ever found to clean up hay and rabbit fur is something thats not even for Rabbits. Its advertised for Horses and for brushing them down. It is amazing at cleaning up the carpet and little sleeping pads. Its called Bettys Best Strip Hair. Its a rubber type thing and you just brush it over your carpet or whatever surface and all of the hair and hay sweeps up into a nice little pile you can just pick up and throw away. I just happened to try it once and now its one of my "couldn't live without" items. No more clogged vacuums.

This made me smile so much. So much was relatable. From hay to poops to thumps, all of it has happened so much with me and my boy. In fact the other day I felt a bump on my leg in my pants and it was bothering me so much.... needless to say, there was somehow a poop in my pants prior to me putting them on. Like how?? But I love my bunny so much that I can look past a little inconvenience or discomfort. He is a great support system in my life and very much knows when I need a snuggle or kiss. Bunnies rock my world!!

Bunnies have changed my life. I had my first at age 11. His name was Stew (My dad picked it... making jokes of turning him into rabbit stew) the jersey woolly. Decades later.. I just got my first own bunny this year, just .. not even 6 months ago. Got the second one just 4 weeks after adopting the first and they are both young. A barely year old Netherlands dwarf girl and a slightly older boy.. who has false charlie face patterns, long ears and broken speckles all over his back and neck.. really not sure what kind of lop he is. To me, bunnies are all angels in disguise. Especially living alone with no family or friends left. Death is a humbling thing. These bunnies give me new reason when my life goals feel empty and lonely.

I have a shop vac with a 2.5" diameter hose, it devours hay and other rabbit messes. The only downside is the vacuum is pretty bulky at 20 gallons, I've seen smaller ones since I purchased mine though. For shedding -- a damp, basic rubber glove can be great for bunny brushing and for getting fur off of fabric.

Teddy Bear looks just like our Coco! I recently wrote a song about how much rabbits poop. We're having trouble with our rabbits. They're fixed and bonded and we've been seeing an increasing amount of flops, and mutual grooming so the bond only seemed to be getting better. But when we bring them food they run into each other getting excited for the food which turns into a bit of a fight (Coco doesn't like that Fifi bumps into him and then sticks his nose into the back of Fifi threatening a nip but Fifi runs away from it but it can lead to chasing/circling). Recently it's escalated to a full on nip fest with fur everywhere. The first time it happened it was over night and we wouldn't have known about it except for the cage was a mess and fur was everywhere. That day they laid next to each other and groomed each other like they'd never been better friends. Then after a weekend with my wife's family over (admittedly a lot of stimulation for them) they had about 3 of these spats in a day and since we've separated them waiting 'til they cool down a bit and then maybe rebonding them. We're still not sure how to stop the tiffs when bringing them food. Currently we're just sad they have to be separated.

No, you should not feed milk to young rabbits. They only need to be given water from the time they are weaned. If you are dealing with an orphaned baby bunny who is less than 2 months old, kitten formula is a better substitute. You can learn more about that at HRS here: rabbit.org/faq-orphaned-baby-bunnies/

I recently caught 5 baby bunnies at my workplace, to be relocated to my lower yard soon (I have to raise them for a while before letting them loose in the wild world with my neighbor's cats hunting). They are very used to me and tame now, since they are about 15 days old and I have been around for half their lives since their eyes opened. They are in a temporary outside cage right now. Yes, they poop and pee everywhere! Nice to have them outside now. I will catch many more bunnies in the next week. Hopefully some adults to be with them and teach them rabbit stuff.

You might find it helpful to neuter or spay your rabbit because it sounds liek you didn't. For the pee problem it comes under litter training and you just use a tissue to clean up the pee and put it in their litter box. Litter training can be harder if they're not spayed or neutered.

I like to scoop out the soiled litter every day so that I can monitor for any changes in the rabbit poop, but there is really no correct way of doing this. Cleaning it out every other day is a great way of taking care of the litter box, so there is no need to change it up if that's working for you

A white rabbit has escaped from his or her home nearby and has moved into my garden. I really adore the little guy and have set up a little spot with a roofed structure for feeding him and a little home with hay and shelter. He roams around a few local gardens but likes mine best because i don't have a dog. I hope he won't fall prey to a fox or eagle, but he seems to be pretty smart and has been around for a while. He's such a lovely little bunny. I think he just wants to be free...

@@kakay1018 Well, no one can catch him or her! She's just made it through a severe storm where I live, and was seen munching and hopping around my garden today. They are amazingly resilient creatures - Australia has a very serious history of awful rabbit plagues. I will keep a close eye on her. I'd say that foxes aren't an issue because most people have dogs around here, and being just one rabbit, she doesn't create much of a scent trail. She's got plenty of cover and bales of hay and straw to live in. I think I'll fence in an area to keep her safe. I appreciate your comment.

Really like your video Amy, thank you. My wife and I have 2 baby Flemish Giants, they are sisters and were born together. We have seen many videos on Flemmishes and some contradict themselves on y.t. regarding foods (fruits vs vegetables) and keeping them in a rather large area indoors, which we have, and/or letting them free roam in an area outside. Any advise?
@izabelegulaja8427
@izabelegulaja8427 2 жыл бұрын
I say you treat your flemishes like normal rabbits. Since they're so big it might be more ideal for you to freeroam them indoors, you can litter train them and use a giant plastic tub as a litter box, you will definitely need to bunny proof as they can sometimes be destructive. There are plenty of videos about these things and some channels I recommend are Lennon the bunny, 101rabbits, stormy rabbits and obviously the one this video is for. Their diet should be 80% Timothy hay, 15%veggies and 5% treats. Hay is very important for their diet and should always be available with no restrictions. Of course not everyone can free roam and you did say you have a huge space indoors, as they are babies they can grow out of that space very quickly. There are many videos on none free roam rabbits like yours in big areas of space. Do leave a reply if you have any more question and I will try and answer them, hope this helped.

When rabbits shed, bring them outside with a fur buster. And then go to town. Bunny is going to hate you for a day, so just be sure to have time for pets and treats. I have 2 male bonded English Lops 10 weeks old that we rescued 2 weeks ago. I have set up my 2nd bathroom as their indoor area with a large cage full of hay to sleep in, they have a cat tunnel and other toys to play with. I put a litter tray in corner and have been watching a lot about toilet training so pick up stray poop and put in the tray to show them where to go. They are about 50/50 in using it but outside the tray is also heaps of poo and urine. I'm getting really frustrated about the amount of mess to clean a few times a day. Any suggestions? I also have an outdoor enclosure which I put them in each day for a few hours to give them variety.

True about the poop, and at least rabbits don't poop literally every few seconds while they are active. Chinchillas poop a tremendous amount while they're active. Every few seconds. No kidding. The only time a chinchilla doesn't poop constantly is when it's asleep or resting.

@@annettefinn6934 if you google ‘bunny poop chart’ and look at images, it will give you images of normal and abnormal bunny poop. The grape looking poops are called cecotrophes. They can eat them sometimes since it’s evidently high in nutrients for the bun. I’ve seen my bunny give a lot of those and they’re difficult to sweep up since they’re wet 🤮 so yes they are pretty easy to smear. If it looks more on the runny side you might want a qualified bun doctor to check it out or maybe review the diet of the bun.

I actually keep a lint roller by my front door so that I can just give myself a once over whenever I leave the house! I have 4 house rabbits so there is a lot of fur! 😂 200 poops a day? That can't be right, it's way more than that! 😂 Oh, if your getting a rabbit don't bother having wallpaper up, they love that stuff! 😂 and wooden coffee tables or side tables? Ha! 😂 Freya was very destructive but now that she's bonded with Odin she doesn't destroy things much now; a lot of destructive behaviour can be due to loneliness and boredom. (There was a delay in bonding due to Covid because I couldn't get Odin in to be neutered). Also, I was never told how important it is to spay female rabbits due to the high risk of uterine cancer. I didn't spay my first female rabbit because I didn't know about this and her partner was neutered so I thought that I didn't need to get her done. She had to be put to sleep due to the cancer because rabbits are prey animals and hide symptoms so nothing could be done by the time I knew that she was ill. Please spay the females, it's a myth that they should have a litter before spaying, I've asked several vets and they've all said that there's no need so get them spayed as soon as possible.

Hello I'am getting a 4 week old rabbit today and I need some advice. I found your youtube while searching. How to litter train your rabbit? How to gain trust? And how long you need to wait until you let the rabbit out of the cage? It would help a lot:) (a simular white rabbit you have)
@bellathefrog2265

hi rabbits usually poop while they eat if your putting hay in your rabbits litter box or, on a hay rack next to waste less hay, they will usually go in the litter box. clean up any poop they do outside of the litter box and make sure to get rid of the smell so they are less likely to go there again. gaining a rabbits trust is a process too but u can start by just laying on the floor and letting them inspect you in their on time. laying on the floor is recommended because since rabbits are prey animals if you stand over them they feel threatened like a predator is trying to get them. you can also hand feed them and don't try to get too close to them too quickly if your rabbit isn't ready for you to pet them or carry them give them time. there's not a specific time to free roam a bunny but you can start by letting them out sometimes and seeing what they are interested in chewing and rabbit proof accordingly. hope this helps

Bella has 100% good advice. Get on the bunnies level and wait awhile, then hand feed them slowly, and reel them in slowly and close to you with it. Then if you feel the bunny is comfortable, gently pet the forehead and see if they keep eating or jolt away. The more acclimated they get to your presence, the more they’ll enjoy being closer to you over time. if the bunny kisses, poops and/or pees on you, congrats! You belong to the bunny now 😂❤️

@Miss-Anne-Thrope

You need to make sure that the hay is good quality, long stems and more of a green colour than yellow. You could also try getting him some hay cookies or hay rollers, my rabbits can't get enough of them. Just make sure that there are no sugary preservatives added to them. You could also try mixing some dried dandelion mix in with the hay so he'll eat the hay to get at the dandelion mix. Hope one of these suggestions work!

My biggest mistakes with my six years old bunny is living in the outside cage and his diet. We are in the fifth day of freeroaming in our room and he is more energetic and more alive. Diet part is tricky, because i feed him only pellets and fruit treats. I tried many times with different hays, but he just rolles his eyes. Do you have any tips for very picky bunny?
@izabelegulaja8427
@izabelegulaja8427 2 жыл бұрын
A rabbits diet should be 80% hay 15% veggies and 5% treats. If your rabbit isn't taking hay this is what you should do. - place the hay in the litter box your bunny is using -add some treats mixed into the hay so your bunny becomes interested -when you see your bunny eating hay reward it and give it a treat This may take a long time, you can try feeding your rabbit grass as it practically has the same effect as hay, you can either let your rabbit in the garden with supervision or cut some grass with scissors and bring it in. I'm glad you are trying to provide a better life for your bunny. An adult bunny doesn't actually need pellets so you can cut out on them completely overtime. Still give your bunny veggies like spinage, rocket salad, celery romaine salad; just a handful in the morning and then in the evening. Rabbits are allowed a teaspoon of treats per day. Hope this helps you. If you have any questions just leave them in the replies and I'll try to answer them.
