Thank you for highlighting one of my favorite actors. I'm always surprised to learn he was never nominated for an Oscar. I really like "Swing High, Swing Low"--not a critics' favorite, but something about it just compels me to watch it when it's on.

You know he was a very nice man grounded and good family man he raised two families meaning the wives needed things he made sure to give earn give so ok he didn’t waste on booze broads .. ok but I think anyone who takes care of family is ok he battled leukemia so I see he did smoke so he probably had his vices at home family things look I admire him no wife beating no hos all around the city

We came to praise Mr. MacMurray, not to bury him, and trust us, if we hadn't mentioned his parsimony, others would have (while calling us out for not mentioning it). In 1977, he estimated his worth at $3 to 4 million, so taking care of his family wasn't an issue. He was just a bit tight-fisted. We all have our quirks.
