$10 Upgrade! Losi 22S Drag Car Sway Bar Install and Test

The Losi 22S No Prep Drag Car!
Mine is still stock....until now. One of the first upgrades you will hear people talk about is the adding the rear sway bar. It is only around $9 (www.horizonhobby.com/product/..., so why the heck not try it?!?!?
In this video, I show a quick install of the bar, then do back-to-back testing with and without it.
This test is not nearly as much about the total ET and speed, but much more about how stable the car is through the pass.

Being a motorcycle rider, I feel I should mention that there is a traction difference between the asphalt and the painted parking lines. On a bike you have to be extra careful if you ride on the painted lines on the streets especially around corners like crosswalks, because your tires can slip and lose traction on those lines 👍

All the good sway bar kits come with 3 different sway bars thickness. Light . Medium and heavy . Hope my input makes you go fast and straight . . Also adding a sway bar you can go softer on your shocks

Thanks! I was surprised how this kit only came with the one...but the kit for the 22S SCT come with 3-4 bars.

Sway bars are for body roll in corners. Anti roll is what you want. A bar across the rear with 2 links connecting both lower arms to it. When 1 arm moves up, the other does the same.

I assume it can, especially in the first 10-20 feet.

The painted lines are a different surface and a good test for the sway bar, basically the painted lines are a surface different depending on the paint, some paints have glass added, some are smooth like rustoleum. But I will definitely be buying a sway bar, may help save the body 😆

Swap out for reaction belted tires change shocks to adjustable ones if you haven’t and run 3s batteries….you’ll run 2.5 2.4

Nice. Sway bar 👍. Tires 👍. But what about Diff? Is it sealed? Or no. I'm thinking thicker grease or if sealed, 500,000 fluid...?

I ordered my the sway bar about a week ago, sadly on backorder. I'm hoping that they will help with tire rub on body as well

It makes sense that it would help a little with tire rub. Have you raised the rear of the body also?

Actually it doesn't make sense unless you're rubbing excessively on one side. That would be a band aid though because if it is doing that you have a shock imbalance or your wright isn't distributed evenly on the car.

A sway bar floats freely up and down if the suspension compresses evenly so likely won't help with body rub.

Did you tighten it hard the sway bar or just enough for it to sway left from right

Just enough. It is supposed to rotate to impact the other side of the car.

I wonder if converting it to some sort of solid rear axle housing would make a difference?

I would be concerned about more torque twist that way. Thinking about things like the Axial Yeti, Losi Rock Rey. They are torque twist monsters!

@@RoadsideRC Interesting. I know that in 1:1 drag cars solid axle w/ 4 link is the way to go. Sounds like experiment time!

That’s against most racing rules which makes it not common…..drag racer RC cars back in the day were solid mounted rear axles no suspension at all

You have to heat the tires more and back off the slipper a touch

Do I need too lube the plastic hold downs on the inside ?

Hmm. It should move rather freely. Back off the hold down screws a little.

@@RoadsideRC I back off screws did change so I took one side at a time off put a very small amount of silicone grease on each side snug the screws and backed them of a 1/4 turn it works a lot better, I believe it will do its job, I wanted to thank you for the time you put in your videos. I found for me gearing 19-21p and 81-84 s. I want to try 19/78 and 22/78 , I'll let you know how it goes, Thank you again !

My bushing fall through the holes when put in the links they don’t snap in.and have lots of play when in.

And I can’t stress it enough you need to put good heat the tires And turn off the telemetry my car went straight as an arrow

I got a piece of carpet and have done some different testing with these tires. I think I am getting them hot. Perhaps not. I also understand that switching to Reactions would probably help a lot also. Interesting thought on the telemetry. I will check that out!

Does this Losi have posi traction? I wonder if one wheel is spinning faster then the other to make it spin out?

It has a gear diff with diff grease in it. You can control how stiff the diff is based on what grease to put in it.

Definitely stay off the painted parking lot lines. Spray the carpet with Simple Green.

My Losey went 2.90 out of the box you’re definitely doing something wrong maybe adjust your slipper or upgrade the battery or something because you’re way off dude

Curious: what battery do you use? I have tried 3 different that all claim to be 50-100c with little change.
