That Rock Mankind “I quit” match was brutal af. I remember everyone I hung out with that followed pro wrestling at the time were all simultaneously entertained and disgusted. I recall most of my friends being confused by the finish but being okay with the fact that it ended. I religiously watched pro wrestling during the attitude era and tbh I loved nasty chair shots to the head at the time but as time went on and revealed how much the shots truly hurt the wrestlers in the long term my opinion quickly changed. I prefer knowing these guys get the respect they deserve without making em feel like they have to risk life and limb for it

After rolling around burning for a moment Rhodes gets the pin, in kayfabe it makes no sense. Non-kayfabe it felt like Cody was trying too hard to get himself over and falling into his overbooking habit.

Inventing the term "rest holds" and calling any match that doesn't have 40 moonsaults or destroyers "boring" has pushed wrestlers to do more of this stupid shit.
