Just came across this. It’s funny. I just finished a shoot for CCTV a few months ago. A travel show not focused on politics. I feel like we are probably similar in a lot of respects. I know you’ve had some “problems” recently, but I does look like you enjoyed the shoot. Strange world we live in these days… ehh?

Great stuff Josh...your drone footage is wonderful...(as usual!) I really like the very open attitude that you have in explaining, in all your writings and videos, to mostly an audience that probably have never been to a culture such as in Xinjiang. Your positivity is a breath of fresh air. Keep it up...and thanks.

Hey Josh, I think it's about time for the Chinese government sees what you've been doing for Xinjiang and rewards you a Green Card. You really deserve it.

It's great to know one of my favourite blog has gotten unexpected fame recently. I just recalled when the first time I bumped into your blog. That article is your trip to Jurassic park of Xinjiang (correct me). Back then, it was just an ordinary blog. But now, whoa.. what an escalation! :) Great job, Josh!

So nice to see attention being giving to Xinjiang. I love it there spend quite some time there 1991/1992/1995/1996, actually stayed in tuyuq and with a local climbed up to the caves -they were sealed with old wooden doors, and didnt bring a flashlight, couldnt see anything unfortunately! I was hoping you would also comment a bit on how you were able to move there and stay there permanently, I tried ten years before you, but didnt manage because of the red tape. wouldlove to hear your personal story. and well done, excellent diplomacy .

I agree - I was glad to see such an interesting series being produced about Xinjiang. I really do wish you could have seen inside those caves and taken pictures! That's one place that has been pretty much sealed off and I wish I could visit. Nowadays, there are a number of foreigners that live in Xinjiang as students, teachers and business people. I've been all three at one point in time over the last decade but currently I reside on a business visa. Thanks for your kind words and for the comment!

I still remember the post signs of a phrase written in Chinese by the desert road somewhere in Xinjiang, which says: 'There are only desolate deserts, yet there is no desolate life.' You must have seen it, right? It really strikes one's soul while passing by, doesn't it? You have such a feeling only in Xinjiang. I miss it.

Well done, Josh, as usual! Two questions: 1) Was the overhead footage from your drone? And 2) Who brought your guitar to the desert for you? Because I don't think you carried it on your bike! :-)
@FarWestChina
@FarWestChina 7 жыл бұрын
+oregonianhoosier Ha! So to answer the questions: 1) Yes, they used footage I shot with my drone (they didn't have experience flying the drone) and 2) we had trail vehicles that carried all the camera gear and my guitar. Don't worry, it was brought to an air conditioned hotel room, not left in the desert :)

I just read your most recent post on Far West China, and it looks like I just jumped the gun by a day or so with my question about your drone. As usual, just a little too impatient. :-) And I should've realized that you would have a support vehicle with you, especially since it was a CCTV gig.
