Today, I've got $100 to spend -- and I'm also trying to get into Berghain -- the world's most exclusive club. Everyone says this city is cheap, but it's not THAT cheap. Although, it might just be Europe's cheapest capital city.

Dude you literally spent $41 on transportation and then complained that Berlin isn't cheap. Also you went to the most expensive food places. Germans usually buy a Döner or Currywurst and then get some drinks from the Discounter. That way we pay $5 for a full meal instead of the $26 you paid.

True but even little random things, like breakfast
@bentm563
@bentm563 2 жыл бұрын
@@uptin I understand you, but that's the touristy places. We normally don't eat out that much. Most of our food comes from discounters/super markets. For breakfast we normally eat bread or Brötchen, which you can get cheap at bakeries. Living in Berlin is really affordable because rent is considerably lower than other capitals and the rest of the costs is similar to German standards. You can get half a loaf of bread for $2 at a bakery. Then get cheese, meat, eggs from the discounter. That's a German breakfast! Then a Döner for lunch and if you want to be fancy get yourself some Indian food for dinner. "German food" isn't actually eaten much here, only to special occasions. For transportation use the public transportation and E-Scooters only for the last mile. If you want to do something special, go to the theatre or go drinking. Don't go to Hipster places. You can also go visit the Parliament, for free.

@@dmitryshestakov2977 try the Falafel sandwich instead, you can eat it exactly like the Döner, same sauce, everything, it is super good and often self-made by them, every Dönershop sells them. In the more expensive city centre it is often 5 , you go a little bit out of the centre it it is often still 3-4 and very good and a big portion.

When I first moved to Berlin I ate at the restaurants in alexanderplatz and was doing the most too, but after living you realize ok I can eat super cheap from the grocery strores bring it to the park with a spati beer and take transit and walk around. I'm happy you experienced the tourist side of it, now you know for next time :)

I live in Germany, have been to Berlin quite a lot over the years, and my main reaction to the video was mostly, "Whyyyy?" 1. You didn't have a "breakfast sandwich," it was a sandwich that you chose to eat for breakfast. $8 for that is too much (maybe it was the drink you chose? usually a sandwich like that costs €2-3). Bakery items are also usually cheaper if you get them to go. 2. Berlin is the city that pioneered free city tours and there are countless companies offering free tours, so I'm not sure why you opted to spend $30. You did point out that a lot of things are spread out, but except for the part of the Berlin Wall that you visited, every place you showed from the bike tour is located within a roughly one-mile stretch. 3. Then you said you visited a "Holocaust museum" while showing images of the Neue Wache guardhouse and the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe (both of them are touching and partially or entirely deal with the Holocaust but aren't museums). 4. You were never, ever going to get into Berghain - not because of your clothes and not just because you don't speak German. You're a single male. Plus, any sort of camera is banned inside, so by filming outside, you automatically showed that you weren't trustworthy. ;) 5. Congratulations; you had one of the most expensive sit-down dinners in Berlin without a Michelin star that I have ever heard of. It was painful to hear that you paid $6 for a Warsteiner! Maybe do better research next time?

As soon as something is mentioned as cheap it no longer becomes cheap. I remember Malta 🇲🇹 was regarded cheap and once people found out prices for tourist skyrocketed. Same for thrift shops, I’ve just recently gotten into thrifting and second hand items and the prices are not very cheap at all! It surprises me to see the same clothes I bought brand new for $20 at a store sell for $20 used at a thrift shop that was donated to them 🤯

You did spend a lot of money specially on food. In Berlin Price directly related to the area you are in. I live in Schöneberg which is a really nice place with lots of cafés and bars. A kebab is 5 euros. Burgers around 4.50. Beer 3 euros. (1.50 if you buy from spatkauf). Curry wurst also around 3.50 - 5 euros. And cheapest way of commute would be to get the day pass. Scooters aren’t cheap. There u go . You could have saved at least 50 euros

$100 can get you very far in Berlin, but honestly you really need to set some parameters. At the very least an expense limit. Touristing can obviously be expensive when you're doing a tour and going to just any restaurant.
