And starting in 2013 my mom started using quinoa and kale (we already ate salmon regularly for years along with other leafy greens). 1935 that creamed beef on toast looked bomb, hate peas tho.

From my own lifetime, starting from when I actually had teeth: 1984 - Potato puffs (aka tater tots), frozen mixed vegetables and chicken on the bone. Maybe some Chef Boyardi beef raviolis when my parents went out and left us with a babysitter. 1994 - Chicken stir fry. All. The. Time. 2004 - Ramen Noodles or a Hot Pocket or Pop Tarts or microwaveable cordon bleu, with a Code Red Mountain Dew, or regular if unavailable. 2014 - A protein shake with frozen berries and baby spinach Now - Some weird riced cauliflower dish I made with 3 cheeses, Chinese 5 spice, ginger, Worcestershire Sauce and onions. Was pretty good.

@aardvark280

Your parents are probably terrified that your desire to go vegan is a symptom of an eating disorder which would cause you to become malnourished. A vegan diet makes it much harder to get all the nutrients you need, especially for someone who is still growing - and that's assuming you DON'T have an eating disorder. Don't yell at your parents and don't argue with them... just keep listing the thought-out reasons why you want to be a vegan. It took me years to convince my mother that I wanted a birthday pie instead of a cake - this will be harder.

I am from Netherland and as a child we are the older type of meals (im 18 now) In netherland we have a "avgtje" wich stands for: Aardappelen (patatoes) Vlees (meat) Groente (vegetables) It often boiled patatoes and veggies with meat baked in far too much butter and the excess butter gets drizzled onto the patatoes. My favorite combo was/is: the huge meatballs my grandmother would make, boiled patatoes with the excess butter from the meat balls and boiled cauliflower with white creamy sauce and some grounded nutmeg sprinkled over it🤤🤤

We ate food from all over. As we were a military family and the wives always swapped recipes, interesting culture. My Mom learned to make Mexican food in Spain, from a Japanese woman named Isabel. Lol

+WisdomAndWeirdness I know right? 1955's TV dinners were closer to real dinners of 2015 than what 2015 really was.

My family and many of my friends have home cooked family dinner regularly, we only eat fast food when we're too busy to make dinner. Friday and/or Saturday we generally eat out or get fast food/fend for ourselves.

I guess Im odd one out here. I cook supper every night for me and my boyfriend. I also make it be nutricious and delicious. We only eat take out maybe 1 or 2 times a month. (We're both in our early 30s and are both landscapers. (its important to eat healthy and stay fit-ish for our job.))

I'm pleasantly surprised at this! And also super surprised that my dinners are most like the 2016 ones. A serving of meat or fish, some salad and fruit, and rice. Delicious and pretty healthy without needing to be super health-conscious!
