Thanks, great to see the old tradition of Finnish "puukko" is doing fine still! I remember in my childhood I admired how my grandad handled his knive, for him it was an essential tool in the Finnish forest. Funny how the Finnish language sounds Italian sometimes... Roselli, Marttiini.

Some more interesting info for those of you who aren't Finnish: A puukko knife is a traditional gift/tool here in Finland, men usually get one upon finishing their mandatory army service. You can also inherit them within families, that's very common. These knives are used for all sorts of things and an inherited knife is a treasured possession in Finland. Almost every family owns at least one, owning multiple and keeping them in your tool cupboard is very normal. They are very handy to have around. They are NOT used as weapons or for self-defence, but that's just the way our culture is, very peaceful. These are tools, works of art, and treasured family heirlooms :) My dad inherited his father's puukko and still uses it and keeps it safe in the tool cabinet in the kitchen.

My grandfather who's both a hunter and a forest warden once went to feed a fox nest and found the sheath of a puukko in there. He went again in the next week and this time the foxes had left the knife there for him, bite marks on the handle and all.

The Finnish puukko is a tool, but also a handmade artwork. Knive like objects have been used since the Stone Age. The oldest tool in Finland that looked like a puukko was found in Rovaniemi, Lapland and it is about 2400 - 2700 years old, but the shape of the hand fit, wooden handle Finnish puukko that we know today, was developed in the Middle Ages in 1300s. It hasn't changed a lot from those days, because it was and still is perfect for its purpose.

The first one. Marttiini Lynx is very affordable and common knife. It's definitely made for use, as are other similar priced Marttiini Puukko's. But there's also very sturdy bushcraft knifes in Finland, called Sissipuukko. Literally translated as guerilla knife. They are not so pretty, but definitely can handle the work.

Roselli’s ultra high carbon steel is probably my favorite steel for puukko knives. It takes such an angry edge and retains it’s sharpness really well. High carbon low alloy steels are my thing. The steel is just brilliant, but out of the box sharpness could be better. In my opinion you need to refine the bevels to unleash the full potential of that steel. Heimo Roselli seems to focus on the steel and the finishing of blade is far from perfect. This hard carbon steel takes a flawless mirror finish and after that it shows how good the steel is. I have no experience with Roselli’s damascus steel, but I have to admit, that the damascus blade in this video looks really beautiful.

That statement is highly questionable. Even a tin can can shave hair with the right grind, and pattern welded blades can get as sharp as any else. There are some variables regarding steel composition and grain structure, but that would go too deep. In short: The knife performed totally fine.
