We're finally able to give our homemade mini trophy truck a thrash in the backyard! In today's episode, we cut and mount pedals, reinforce the suspension, and get the engine running properly. This vehicle has a LOT of power- it spins the tires at 2,000 RPM in 3rd gear! We might have a traction issue on our hands.
Thanks for Watching!

The reason you need to down shift pushing forward on the shifter is because, in an emergency stop situation, you don't want to upshift when you lean forward because of breaking hard. Pull back to upshift. Push forward to downshift.
@tep1003
@tep1003 3 жыл бұрын
It isn't really an issue because in an emergency stop situation, you're either going to stall it or push in the clutch. You aren't downshifting in an emergency stop because your goal is to get it stopped as soon as possible.

Good to see you got the dropped cylinders issue fixed. Just for safety, you should pull that ignition module off the kart anytime you weld on it. Electronics don't like to be exposed to all that induction created by welding current. If it were me, I'd work on getting that shifter *inside* the cage with a *lot shorter* throw, and reverse the shift pattern so you pull back to go *up* through the gears as it is natural for you body weight to shift to the rear when accelerating. Maybe go with a shift *cable* as well, to reduce the amount of linkage involved. You definitely need to get a different differential in there,without that stupid extension, and maybe a flat chain driven gearbox to get the power more toward the center just behind the engine. With as much crashing around as you guys will be doing, you want your driveshaft straight to take the suspension travel without overstressing the U-joints. Good luck on it.. seems to be coming together nicely!😉

As an old JD tractor owner, and a beemer 1000 cc owner, I remember that when you lost the coolant or changed it, you had to be sure that the water pump was flooded before you ran the engine. You see vehicle water pumps do not "suck" air and as such, they will not void themselves of air to get water in, JD had bungees with bolts and seals to allow coolant to drain out showing that you had water up to that point and continued the flow until the entire engine, coolant lines and pump was flooded. If you do not do this you are looking at at least a blown head gasket, warped heads, or much worse, such a shame for such a spectacular accomplishment, Kudos to the team!!! You guys rock!!!

Ok my bad guys i had not watched all the way thru to see that 12v was not disconnected. Not sure this has anything to do with "problem" however because its only that coil and not the other affected. If possible to swap the supply 12vdc and see if problem "follows" or goes away.. In other words this may be an ECM driver issue. Admittedly i am rusty at electrical diagnosis as ive not worked since dec 2017 and on disability soc sec as of 2019 at 51 years old. Worked 20+ years as an electric forklift mechanic and have seen and repaired many a things over the years. Point i wanna make is i appreciate you younger fellers into the diagnosis of automotive/equipment electrical systems and repair. The more time you put in the better you get and in no time y'all will be fixing stuff many others cant. Now that i dont wrench daily all i can really do is watch people on youtube playin around. As a measure of advice never get caught up in the what brand or name is on the valve cover when it comes to repair of anything...electricity knows no brand. Ok ive rambled too long with this, hope y'all dont "ok boomer" me in that im not That old😉👍

Guys, I love your builds and enthusiasm. But PLEASE change the cage design in this before you get hurt. Look at the cage design of a Sprint Car, and do something like that. Move those bars that are above your head to the sides of the roll cage. Then brace it some like a sprint car. The way you have it now makes the outside of your cage very weak, and it is also a spot where you can hit your head if you flip it. You really need to fix this guys. This is coming from a guy that has driven Midgets and other race cars. Please, I don't wanna see either of you get hurt. It would be an easy fix if you do it now.

I also have a crossfire pro. I noticed that your torch is a little loose in the video. I see it rotate a bit when it moves. That will reduce your cut quality. Also you can put a sketch on the face of a part and attach a tool path to single lines. Just select "center" instead of left or right when setting up your tool path. Also change your lead in and out to zero degrees and it will just extend the line a little. For holes I use 90 degree lead in with .07" to .125" distance. For small holes you will not be able to use the full .125" and you'll have to knock it down a bit.

@Jeff Kopis that's why you make sure it doesn't spring a leak. Real Trophy Trucks with open backs have been running this setup for years. The inlet and outlet of the rad doesn't even have to be facing forward. That way if it does leak it will spray out towards the back. What I'm explaining is the all out perfect location for the rad. It's protected and will have much better airflow. Look at these setups: www.google.com/search?q=trophy+truck+rear+radiator+replacement&prmd=sivn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjywY7a48HsAhXGnOAKHdQgBQAQ_AUoAnoECAMQAg&biw=360&bih=630&dpr=3#imgrc=aUNQk4G1lQosbM www.google.com/search?q=trophy+truck+rear+radiator+replacement&prmd=sivn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjywY7a48HsAhXGnOAKHdQgBQAQ_AUoAnoECAMQAg&biw=360&bih=630&dpr=3#imgrc=Kg4V4-jspM5yzM

After all the reinforcement is done and you guys have welded it completely. You should put some body panels on it and make it the official carsandcameras pace kart. Set possibly a new grand prix record and then put it up against the crossbart. This trophy kart would look sick with some panels and a big ol C&C logo and just a touch of paint. But definitely leave the cage and frame itself alone for now until absolutely needed if needed at all.

I would honestly rethink the whole design. You could definitely do something less janky and dangerous. Y'all build epic stuff all the time. This is by far the worst design/build quality I've seen from y'all in my opinion. I believe if you take your time and rethink the whole build it could be something that would bring more success for y'all. Edit: try thinking of building from the cockpit then design around that. Better seat. Better protection for the driver.. Ect..

Just a little tip, not sure if you guys will ever run into this problem at all. But in the past I have fried ECM's from welding on chassis without the the battery disconnected. So just to save you a little head ache possibly in the future. If it happens to be a newer computer you should disconnect the battery while welding. Its only happened to me on two different occasions. I thinks its awesome the thing you guys build. I bought an old 1985 Honda Odyssey that I planned on putting my 04 Honda CBR600F4i engine in. Cant wait to knock it out and rip it at the sand dunes

that shifting looks pretty harsh, i mean like i would have prefered it the other way "aerodynamic" way. with higher gear when pulling back and lower when pushing forward. You might alsowant check the throw of it, it looks like it has a quite a big distance, but coming along nicely, those pedals are the little things you guys need in these builds!!!

Since everyone else is chiming in,,,first off, a heck of a good job!! I mean for real. Next thing is they actually make a universal pivot for drive shafts it's like knuckle. You could turn the angle of tge rear end up more and or put like a limit chain on the rear end so it doesn't go down when you let off the gas. I'm going to say that's why it pops out. Also I know Ike knows this but maybe just hasn't thought about it. Always disconnect the battery when you are welding because you can and will fry ECM, ICM, etc. And remember it's always easier for us viewers to see things, I'm still extremely impressed with not only your abilities but your friendship as well. Keep on keeping on. The batteries died in my ezgo golf cart so I'm about to tackle putting in a 110 cc motorcycle engine in it. It's converter clutched and electric start so here we go.
