Subscribed after watching the first video I saw. I seem to remember better when someone tells me something rather than read facts

We even had a pallet of counterfeit 310 stainless steel. It looked funny and I suspected it was 316L. 310 is more yellow because of the nickel. In fact it was 316L.

Common grades will reveal many mixtures of steel. (Some say there are as many as 10,000 types of steel %-Wow) Tom Vanderloop, Author & Consultant

Cheap 1018 is not the same as name brand 1018. They might have the same chemical makeup but the grain size and amount of cold work will be different. Fe alloys are forgiving. Ni, Co, Al, and Mg alloys are not forgiving of bad processing at the mill. I have seen Arconic 2024 form perfectly. Generic 2024 would just crack and shatter.

We had a pallet of 1018 from Curtis Steel that had Luder bands in it. I had heard of that defect but never actually seen it. I told my manager I couldn't use the material because it had yield point runout. He knows a metallurgist and called him. He came over and took a sheet to the lab at UH. The material did have the defect I said it did. Curtis never refunded us or replaced it.
