Martijn, from my own experience with my grandmother's flowerboxes, the all-wooden design needs to have holes drilled in the bottom. It helps prevent the wood _and_ flowers from rotting. Also a thin layer (1" or so) of soil-sand [mix] at the base can also help with drainage. Drill/cut half a dozen medium sized holes and place some broken pottery or stones to partially cover them to prevent the soil washing out.

Anyhow, I'll be watching your eagerly awaited video, enjoy hearing the birds sing and to see you work in your usual calm and skillful way. Spring has finally come to the Italian alps! How wonderful! You know I usually feel OK about my age, but watching you, I wish I were 35 years younger, and I'd be there with you, helping you, learning from.you and maybe teaching you a few skills. Your trees are in a similar state as ours in the Highlands of Virginia. Big dollops of lime green decorating the hillsides with a promise of spring. And, like you, a cold spell has interrupted its progress. It is so good to see the green again, though, and the forest floor blooms with wildflowers. I read trees smell so good because they absorb years of starlight. There is certainly a sweetness that rises in the evening air, and at dawn to hear the birds again is bliss.
