Hi, I'm Shawn James. I am a passionate outdoorsman living the life of my dreams in a log cabin that I built by myself in the Canadian wilderness. Join me and my golden retriever, Cali and listen to the sounds of the forest in this relaxing wilderness setting. I prefer to keep my talking to a minimum and let the natural sounds of nature make you feel as though you are there with me.

Interested in watching this for the sled especially...we have a lot of stones to move on our land as well. We're like-minded homesteaders down in Virginia, and have learned a great deal from you (or validated our approaches that are similar to yours.).

Hello from California! I can relate...a bit. My wife decided she wanted a "decorative stone" in the back yard. Rockery delivered a 900lb rock but could only leave it in our front yard. Using the pallet as a sled plus multiple pipe sections we manage to roll the thing to the desired location. Took a full day to move it 50ft. It'll sit at its current location forever!

I've been watching your videos for years and always thought you reminded me of my father. Or you should have been an uncle of mine. But watching your experience with moving boulders. I spent 7 months alone in the Kootenay mountains. A lot of the spring and first half of the summer. I was moving boulders like this, down mountain. Just to create garden beds. I'm 5.7" and 130lbs. I cannot express the adrenaline rush I'd create within myself to move every boulder by hand. I used a rope in some situations. I lost a few boulders that just kept rolling into the trees below. But to have them land in place was so satisfying. Knowing I was just inches away from a broken leg, ankle, arm. With no one to rescue me and a hospital 35 minutes away. I made it out with only one injury. Trying to roll a boulder to the edge of a hill. Slipping, then hitting my chin on the rock. But nothing broke and kept working until the coyotes got a little too close. Every night I chopped wood and said to myself. Shawn James does this everyday and he's still going strong. You're a major inspiration and definitely kept me going every day. Until mosquito season.. that sucked.

Bravo

I can remember when I was a young teenager the farmer down the road we would pick rocks from the field and load them onto a "Stone Boat". Just to 10 or 12" diameter logs with a curve on the bottom front and boards across the top to put the rocks on. We would collect them, and drop them off on the stone rows. Great work out.

I really enjoyed this video, it was wonderful being able to just sat back relax watch you do the work, interesting seeing how you do it. I have spent years cleaning my land. The lot I bought was classed as forestry I cleared it. I never realized when I bought it how many granite rock it had on it. I love the outdoors it was a labour of love, I have three antique crow bars that I use. I am looking forward to when you get the chickens, see what Cali thinks of them how she reacts. She is such a beautiful dog, I just love watching her She is so clever never gets in your way. Belated happy birthday Shawn. I see you have a helper, that’s great every bit helps. I am looking forward to seeing your chicken coop. I have been thinking about it wouldn’t have a clue how to go about it for in the winter months . Thanks for sharing Shawn.

Go to the local wrecker's yard and get a hood from a 60's something vehicle.. The farmer's in the Interlake region in Manitoba used them all the time to move large rocks.. They slide easily when upside down and never break and are relatively light.

I changed from raising chickens to rabbits for meat. During the summer i feed for free and im in the desert. More sustainable for rabbit feed than chicken feed. I do keep 10 egg layers to keep us in eggs though. But we easily get 500lbs of meat off our rabbits per year.
