One of my viewers - Everton Shorts - mentioned to me that the A570 retains it's special features even with a 2.x or 3.x ROM installed. Thanks for correcting my misinformation. I appreciate it! I may keep it at 1.3 for a while since it is my only 1.3 machine

Nice always nice to see what you can accomplish with an old friend. I have been playing around a lot these past few weeks with the A500 and A500+ and I have some old Expansion Systems Data Flyer SCSI/IDE and 8mb RAM Boards I need to repair after which I could use them on the A1000 or A500. I used those boards years ago first on the A1000 then on an A500 and A2000. On the A2000 I used it to run my first CD-ROM Drive and I still have the installation software for it. I just need to fix it and I see Chris Edwards just repaired his Data Flyer for an A500 so I pulled my old boards out and I think its time to make them work again. One thing about Amiga stuff is it keeps me busy and these videos on KZfaq keep putting ideas in my head and so its never boring.

Never boring... and generally expensive! Those boards with 8 MB and SCSI were so nice back in the day. It makes for a very powerful A500 or A1000 for sure! Chris's videos are always fun to watch. He finds the coolest stuff and gets it pretty cheap!

Nostalgic and infuriating at the same time. I miss not having a "Volumes" and "Parent" button and having to type in path names, but I totally get that it was early, and coders were just learning how to do things.

If you're on SCSI device don't forget the A590 Setup Disk contains a 1.3 compatible HD ToolBox and 1.3 installation script too, that will copy Extras 1.3 and Amiga BASIC too. For what it's worth. Deluxe Paint III 3.25 (the one that came with the a500 plus and A600 in the UK) contains a better 1.2/3 compatible file requester, not quite reqtools.library standard but contains the ASL like Drives and Assigns buttons which is much better than the older DPaint II/III df0: df1: etc buttons
@10MARC
@10MARC 4 жыл бұрын
I will have to download those disks for the A590. I did not know it came with a script! I don''t have that version of Deluxepaint III. I own like two copies, but they are the same. I wonder where I could get the ADF files for the upgrade?

You could drill the scsi port backplate for a switch and run a jumper to the ram module,making the ram accessible from the outside.

That would certainly work. I have not run into anything yet that requires the RAM to be off, but I have found a few things that require the CD-ROM to be physically switched off

Watching your Video tells me that I have to find my A570, I know it must be somewhere in the house... I can remember one CDTV Game, Xenon 2 Megablast, that was cool, because it has that cool CD Audio (the rest is the same as the Floppy Version) But that Game has really cool music and the CDTV Version was the best available, you should try to find that.

First of all, congratulations and thank you for the informative videos of the amazing Amiga. In the video, around the 12th minute, you say, with the CD-ROM you can burn something that the Amiga reads and identifies. Of course, I didn't tried everything, but I get tired of ruining CDs and there's a lot that Amiga doesn't read. Can explain how to burn CDs, care and advantages. So how can we make an only data CD so we can introduce NET software in the A570? Thank You
@10MARC
@10MARC 4 жыл бұрын
I find if I use older CD's rated slower, they work better. CD-R not CD-RW for sure. Burn them as slowly as possible on your oldest CD Burner. It will never read if you burn at 52x, but will probably read if you burn at 4X. CDTV and A570 use an older burning format called Rockwell. See if your CD software supports it, and you will have better luck

@10 Minute Amiga Retro Cast Hi Doug, what did you settle on to attach for A500 video output to the LCD in this episode (65). It looks almost free if artifacting on the mouse movements and gives a nice clear image. I have a 500 and 1200 (and hopefully soon a 600) that I want a good scan doubler. Been testing several options and am not entirely happy. Thanks!
@10MARC
@10MARC Жыл бұрын
By far the 100% best are the RGB2HDMI solutions or the Indivision Scan Doublers. The Indivisions are superior in that they can handle Amiga Screen Modes you have never heard of before, but the RGB2HDMI is less expensive, and gorgeous!

Hi, I did a new WB1.3 installation a few days ago with an HCC533 accelerator and I have found some problems with software that is tied to the name of the floppy. The solution is to assign this floppy name to the folder name in the startup-sequence. I don't now if the option 'clone all' can help with this. BTW I repaired my A570 some time ago so... it's time to look for the RAM expansion. Great videos!!!
@10MARC
@10MARC 4 жыл бұрын
You bet! Sometimes making that assign in the Startup-Sequence is all it takes to trick software into working from a hard drive. It is wonderful how easily the Amiga works with those device names.

So glad I waited to sit down and enjoy this one properly. Really nice to see workbench 1.3 get some love. Usually only AmigaLOve gives 1.3 well presented screen time. I and forgotten about the lack of create folder.. I used to cli mkdir and then copy empty.info to mynewfolder.info until my mate mentioned that was what the empty folder was really for to just copy it using the mouse. Sometimes the easy and obvious escapes 😁 Now I want a CD drive just to do this. What do you mean I don't need it because I can accomplish the same thing with my ACA500? I really should spend some more time with Photon Paint again. It was my art program of choice even going as far as purchasing Photon Paint 2. (Even though I had a backup first) So again another great video and another inspiration to turn the old girl on. And loved that you used MadPetes video as the leas in.
@10MARC
@10MARC 4 жыл бұрын
I really enjoyed this one, too. It did bring back a lot of Workbench 1.3 memories. I Actually had not thought about that folder for thing in years until I sat down in front of it again! Photon print was such a great program. I love the ability to wrap images on objects, and the built in lighting effects are really clever.

I just got my A572 ram expansion as self-solder set. Can you give me a hint if the SCSI controller is available as fan project, either pre-assembled or as a kit? Is this technically the same as for the CDTV? Great stuff to pimp my A500 (which has been neglected for too long in favor of a full-blown A1200)
@10MARC

I have no idea if the SCSI module is available as a kit. You could check with the guy I bought mine from (I think his eBay handle is in the description) - but if he designed it himself I am not sure he will share it.

@@10MARC Thanks appreciate it. Found out my 2MB module is faulty and needs repair. I see the CDTV boot screen but how do I access it in Workbench?
@10MARC
@10MARC Жыл бұрын
@@maniacsatwork the CF should be available as CD0: in Workbench. There is a program called CD Play that comes on floppy that allows you to play back CD's. You can't get to the CDTV custom screen from workbench. To use that you need to disable your hard drive (usually a switch on the back of the SCSI controller) and it will boot to the lovely CDTV screen

So, just burn something on a CD, and the Amiga recognizes it in the Workbench?
@10MARC
@10MARC 4 жыл бұрын
That certainly can work. If you burn the CD slow enough and use a program that uses the Rockridge burning format you should be fine. I have been able to burn a disk of pictures and videos and the A570 reads the disk pretty well.

@10MARC
@10MARC 4 жыл бұрын
Does the A570 still boot into "CDTV" mode when no disk is present? I was under the impression that that feature was reliant on patching the 1.3 ROM. I know the drive will still work under Workbench, but thought it was some of the CDTV compatibility features that vanished. Do they work OK? Of so, that is really awesome!
