Don’t think of your backpack as a one-dimensional item-holding vessel. It’s also your ticket to solid holds and impacts downrange - if you use it right. Forend support, rear support, prone to sitting, instructor Justin from Vortex Edge® walks through the many positions and tricks to leverage the functionality of your backpack for increased accuracy. Might as well, you probably have it with you anyway.
As always, we want to hear your feedback! Let us know if there are any topics you'd like covered on the Vortex Nation™ podcast by asking us on any one of our social media platforms and using #VortexNationPodcast.

I don’t use a bipod on my hunting rifle. Over the years I have found my pack to be way more versatile as a rest than a bipod.

I find a bipod virtually useless unless a guy hunts golf course like terrain lol

I zero my rifles prone using my backpack as a rest. That’s the way I shoot in the field so that’s the way I zero my rifles. I confirm zero from sitting with rifle rested on my pack as well because sitting is a far more likely position to shoot from than prone. It only takes 8 inches of grass to mess up shooting prone. Zeroing from a bench only mechanically zeroes the rifle to the scope , it doesn’t factor in field positions, differences in eye relief, head position or cheek weld in various positions. I know plenty of dudes that zeroed off a bench in a sled then missed everything they shot at while hunting !

That's a great habit to get into! Zero your rifle the way you plan on shooting in the field. 👊

Hey, I’d like to hear about how well a back pack supports a high end air rifle for shots out to 250 yards.

I use my alice pack as a chair as the grass where I am is too high for it to be of use as a rest.

I shoot off my pack whenever I can. Even if I am not carrying much I will stuff a light puffy in it to fill out the pack.

🤠 FYI - On 06/07/2022, SAMMI approved the specifications for the 7mm prc! The cartridge is essentially 0.535" wide, 2.28" long, has a 0.2868" neck, has a 30 degree shoulder, and has an operating pressure of 65,000 psi! The cartridge can push a 180 grain bullet out of the muzzle at 2,950 ft/s (similar to the 7mm Remington Magnum), but 200 ft/s slower than the 300wsm (I know at least 1 person at Vortex that will be smiling about that 🤭)! So, at reasonable hunting distances, the 7mm bullet of the prc will never catch up to the 30 caliber bullet of the 300wsm! 😁 So, there is nothing new under the sun! 😎

bipods ruin the balance of a rifle when shooting off hand stopped using them years ago is just extra weight you don't need to carry in the hills and trying to set them up on lose rocks on the side of a mountain takes to long use my pack to sight my rifle in and as a rest in the hills

My opinion, not that anyone asked,,. The more points of contact you can anchor your rifle and your body, the better off.
