Knowledge is knowing the big words and where specifically to use them, intelligence is understanding that to communicate your message effectively doesn't require any big words at all since not everyone knows them and you run the risk of being misinterpreted. tl;dr: Knowledge does not equal intelligence.

@@pantsonfire2216 What do you mean by 'That's where excuses go out the window.'? Yeah I agree - I always think of it being like a computer - IQ is your CPU and RAM, determining the level of calculations you can perform, knowledge is the long-term memory where you store all the files. I.E. you can have a full hard drive but if your CPU isn't great then you ain't doing any complex calculations with that data. And the inverse is that you could do great calculations with a gaming PC, but you're hardly using your potential if all you have installed is tetris lol

As someone who is insatiably curious, theres a big downside that oversvadows the happiness of knowledge. The problem is that the more you learn, the more you will distance yourself from mediocre people, who often dont care about exploring new ideas. Its extremely frustrating and leads to solitude. I also think that intelligent people often feel lonelier in others company than with themselves.

Sooo true! I appreciate what all you shared. And another downside that has proven to be true with me is: “with much wisdom comes much sorrow.” The more we dive deeper into learning, we begin to understand more and more of the darkness in the world/humanity. And it’s heavy. It’s a blessing to gain wisdom but as the Bible shows us, the most wise man of his time (Solomon) was also full of deep sorrows. I’ll also add the fact that gaining the cognitive wisdom in and of itself means very little. You can have all the “head knowledge” but not apply it and live it, and still choose to make foolish decisions, also like Solomon. He’s an interesting example of how I don’t want to be. I want my wisdom to go beyond thought and to actually apply it and grow in character, and be usable to help others grow too.

We mostly are intelligent. People underestimate themselves because of the lack of knowledge, laziness, fear of learning new things or concepts, personal backgrounds and other factors. They haven't developed a skill or talent, that's why they think it's impossible to learn. Just learn something you find interesting, or maybe step outside your box and learn new stuff that's rewarding in the long run. Cheers to you mate, have fun learning :)

Two main signs of highly intelligence that stand above the rest... The ability to forecast the future outcome of a situation and solve problems quicker and better than the average person. These things are done with such ease that your average people would think that you're just lucky because they wouldn't that it could be done easily. Yet you can do it over and over and over again with new situations and problems. (And thinking to yourself, "why the f... can't you guys get it?!?!)

Hell yes! Imagine this scenario: You have an uncle or a friend who have been driving for 10-20 years and know quite a lot about cars. They know you dont have a drivers license since they have driven you before plenty of times. You've been studying to pass the drivers exam and notice you're interested in cars. They're fascinating machines so you try to learn everything about them. You now pass the exam and get your license. Now after 6 months of driving, your friend has a problem with their car and you've learned that if these symptoms come up, it's most likely to be this, since you now understand a little about cars, what makes them up and how they all differ from each other. You tell them whats wrong with the car. At first they might take it as a joke and find it amusing. Then you insist on it being the problem. They still don't listen. They take the car to the mechanic and find out you we're right. It doesn't make any sense to them how you could've learned such a thing in that short amount of time. Do it enough times and people start to think you're either annoying, a know it all, an asshole who's trying to make eveyone feel dumb or just a lunatic who's focusing his time on the wrong things. You meant well but now you're the odd one out
@nightsurfer1

There's a girl I used to be close to who was really into science, or so she says. She said she was really into space so I asked her for her favorite planet just to make conversation. She said she doesn't know any of that stuff. I found it odd but let it slide. Then there was discussions about one's heroes and she talked about idolizing Elon Musk as he's a self made billionaire who is doing a lot for the planet in terms of green energy. I just watched a documentary about him and corrected her about some things since they were incorrect and she completely turned on me. Instead of simply standing corrected and apologizing, she gossiped about me and tried to convince everyone else how I'm unreasonable and a bad person. Even now after months I feel very left out by the group because she is still going on and on about how it's important to respect multiple perspectives and not care too much about what is correct. She said she always wanted to pursue a degree in STEM like me but I feel like she really doesn't have the right mindset for it. I feel like as her friend, I should uplift her but honestly just feel disillusioned and irritated at this point

have you ever heard of mbti & the cognitive functions ? it sounds like you prioritize Ti .. & she does not . not only are there different levels , but there are different *kinds* of intelligence . im sure each kind would deem their own superior , but thats another bit of hooplah . because of the difference between yours & hers , you perceive there to not only be inconsistencies within her ideas , but within the idea of her being intelligent at all . youre being a bit closedmind little do you know lol .. more than that , because of this difference , it sounds like you think her ego is moreso whats fueling her self concept of being intelligent , but ironically so is yours .. ofc idk the situation in reality though ! but if anything , i would say you should learn about cognitive functions & Ti ( introverted thinking ) vs the other ways / different methods 🧰 people receive & process information ~ & the *purpose* , as well as the strengths & weaknesses of them all 🧩 it gives a more objective view of things . incompatibility is one thing , but if anything , its important to understand + see the value in eachother ( & eachothers brains ) even from a distance .

First understand I've lived with these a great many years, so I might have something to offer. I found that extending yourself into conversations, not in debate but just in acknowledgement of their points and smiling as often as possible will eventually make you accepted as part of this group of people. Not all of them will 'warm up' to you, but enough to make you feel more accepted amongst them. Don't over-think about the ones who aren't friendly, not everyone likes every person they meet, it's normal and means nothing negative about you! You're young enough, once you learn to manage your personality it will be easier to be social and shortly thereafter you won't even give it any thought because it will no longer be any issue, and you'll have many years to enjoy it!

@@dennisdose5697 Well, while being somewhat happy that I'm not alone, I am still very sorry that you're going through that. I don't know what it is or what it's going to take to get back. Because I've been trying for months. I burnt out around July. I've even involved my doctor and we are trying to find the correct combination of medications. But people that I have encountered that take my medications, have said they need an amphetamine as well. And I'm thinking I might have reached that point. Currently the best thing i have found is to first thing when I wake up, take my medication with a couple of cups of water and then I down an energy drink, as soon as I can. And even then, I find myself still slow and confused... it is extremely frustrating, as you said. I miss my hyper-focus, my ability to multitask and my drive, the most...

@@supermegaawesomeultragal7820 and it is really difficult to explain it to someone who hasn't been through it. I would not have believed what it is like. My friend George said it took him a year before he was able to function at work again. I hope you are no worse than he was. I am at about the 3 1/2 year mark (June '19) and was able to handle part time work last summer. Broke something pretty bad, I'm 63 and don't expect to reenter engineering, sustained concentration is not possible. It's really weird isn't it? Stuff you used to do easily just doesn't work and you don't know why. I wonder if it is the mental/ emotional equivalent of a missing limb, you keep reaching for the cup only to realize, again, that your arm is gone. How are your emotions functioning? Mine were nearly obliterated, they are coming back in little bursts. Oh, I remember this, it's happiness. Oh, this is wonder, or sorrow, or... Hope you have good support, my wife and kids have been amazing. Haven't done meds myself, but 28 weeks of therapy did help. Don't push too hard my friend, don't re-injure your brain. Take care.

My self discipline is very inconsistent and I get so burnt out having to force myself to focus in on every task I do as to not end up w a million half done objectives everyday. I think discipline is probably the highest sign of intelligence to me, bc not only do you know what to do- but you have the wisdom to see past the moment at hand and work towards your future self. It’s truly a skill.
