On a personal note, I’m surprised that they don’t use either of the ways most Americans use to do 11×11. First, in America, we learn the times tables for all numbers from 1 to 12 and memorize them, so we just memorize that 11×11 = 121 like we would 7×6 = 42. Additionally, we get taught two rules for multiplying numbers under 100 (except ones whose digits have a sum of 10 or more like 19, 47, 55, 85, or 99) by 11: one for one-digit numbers, and one for two-digit numbers. For one-digit numbers (which I think everyone knows), you simply repeat the one-digit number, concatenating it with itself (two 1s for 11×1 = 11, two 6s for 11×6 = 66, two 9s for 11×9 = 99, etc.). For two-digit numbers where the Sun , though, you separate the digits, then put the sum of the digits in between them (so 11×10, 1+0=1, so 1 goes between 1 and 0 to get 110; 11×11, 1+1=2, so 2 goes between 1 and 1 to get 121; 12×11, 1+2=3, so 3 goes between 1 and 2 to get 132; 13×11, 1+3=4, so 4 goes between 1 and 3 to get 143; 25×11, 2+5=7, so 7 goes between 2 and 5 to get 275; 30×11, 3+0=3, so 3 goes between 3 and 0 to get 330; 42×11, 4+2=6, so 6 goes between 4 and 2 to get 462; 54×11, 5+4=9, so 9 goes between 5 and 4 to get 594; 72×11, 7+2=9, so 9 goes between 7 and 2 to get 792; etc.). (For the record, this can be extended to any two-digit number by taking the sum of the digits, inserting the 1s digit of that sum in the middle of the digits of the original number like in the other rule, then adding the remaining digit from the sum (if any) to the 100s place of the new number (which, because adding two one-digit numbers will never get a sum of 20 or more, means that we’ll only ever add 1 to the 100s digit (i.e. add 100 to the new number) if we even have to do this): 19×11, 1+9=10, so 0 goes between 1 and 9 to get 109, then 1+1=2, so you get 209; 48×11, 4+8=12, so 2 goes between 4 and 8 to get 428, then 1+4=5, so you get 528; 55×11, 5+5=10, so 0 goes between 5 and 5 to get 505, then 1+5=6, so we get 605; 67×11, 6+7=13, so 3 goes between 6 and 7 to get 637, then 1+6=7, so we get 737; 75, 99×11, 9+9=18, so 8 goes between 9 and 9 to get 989, 1+9=10, so we get 1089; etc.)

I multiple by 10 and add 1, breaking it up. 57x10 is 570, multiplying by 10 (or 100, 1000, 10000) just means adding however many zeros there are in the number (if we take 57, it would be 5.700, 57.000, 570.000), 570 + 57 is 627. If I multiply by 15, I go to x10 and half it (i.e. 570 + 1/2 570, i.e. 285). I‘d also add highest to lowest, i.e. 500 + 200, 70 + 85, 0 + 5. It works best for these cases, but I even use the method for x12, x13 etc.
