I pieced together an S&S cycle 110ci big bore kit with feuling oil pump and cam plate, woods 999 camshafts, a welded and trued crankshaft, and ported heads. The engine is ready to be put back in the bike!

New to your channel. Finally subscribed after watching videos in past. Anyways. Looking to do some side work out of my garage. Looks like you got a legit set up with plenty of business I see from your videos. Are you just using social media and word of mouth for business? And for parts are you ordering parts for clients or are they coming in off the bike wanting to install? Sorry trying to keep this simple and sweet and sweet and just getting an idea how to roll with this. I would like to do it permanently but for now it’s just going to be a weekend thing. I appreciate your time and channel. Thanks again.

I used Instagram to promote my work in the beginning. It was a lot of friends and family stuff in the beginning, but then the word of mouth is what really kicked it off. Keep it consistent for a year, and by then you’ll be as busy as you want to be 🤘🏻 As far as parts, I would typically order things for the customers. That way I knew what would fit and what wouldn’t. I had one customer who was very specific with that he wanted, and he ordered all his own parts. But I typically likes to order the parts

Curious your thoughts on a 110 S&S kit on a 103 worth it? I mean power wise/reliability vs buying a 124 motor kit or motor…Is 110ci built motor THAT powerful? Obviously not compared to 124 but you know what I am getting at.
@GilstrapGarage
@GilstrapGarage 2 жыл бұрын
So if you’re going to build it to the level we built it, I think your costs will be pretty much the same as buying a crate engine. The 110 kit is good for bike that you know the bottom end is solid on. The customer had already bought parts before I had a chance to check it. Down side of the crate motor, HD has patents on their twin cam cases, and S&S isn’t able to offer a bolt on twin cam case. You have to machine your oil pan and run lines to it, or machine your brand new engine.

@jerryhubbard4461
@jerryhubbard4461 3 жыл бұрын
@@GilstrapGarage The reason I made that statement is so many people do not know what torque is on a nut or bolt. It is the stretching of the threads that give the bolt torque. Without lubrication, you can not put enough tension on the bolt to make it stretch. That is where the lubrication comes in. That is another reason some engines require new un-torqued bolts and never use the old ones again. Most people don't know that if you can turn a nut all the way up the threads of a bolt, it has not been torqued. If the nut stops over half the way up the threads, it has been torqued. My engineering class says any lubrication will work to make the bolt torque. Lock=tite is one that will help as a lubicant but I still use some oil at the beginning. JS

@GilstrapGarage
@GilstrapGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Great question. Before we started the project, the customer had ordered all his own parts, and we had no clue what the run out was. When I tore the bike down, it was at about 5 thou, and I told him that’s right at the limit I would consider not running a billet cam plate and pump. That’s when we came to the decision to split the case and true the crank, and that’s why we didn’t run gear drive cams.
