I built my 2200 sq ft rancher here in Alberta, Canada in 2003 with the then Scott ICF system. I did the basement and the main floor walls.19 feet of vertical wall. Best decision I ever made. I inadvertently doubled my re-bar install, but steel was cheap back then and it couldn't hurt. My engineer said I could add 2 more floors whenever. I ignored the naysayers and am glad I did. Never lived in a warmer, (-40F), cooler, stronger, more wind proof, dryer, more comfortable home. As for attaching things to the plastic inserts, never a problem, unbelievably strong. Will do it again soon.You are doing it all right, but don't stop at just basements.

It's a fancy footer for sure. I would like to see more structures build this way in the tornado valley and the hurricane zone for sure. With solid floors in between them walls and capped off with reinforced concrete plates for attic floor.

Plastidip the ends on them uprights. To most folks, seeing the "WRATH OF SIMON" at the start of this video wouldn't seem so meaningful. But I felt the heat and smelled the salt, GOOD JOB Mr. DP. Advertising lower base price and cranking in 30% "fees", is piss poor cut throat business practice. Buyer Beware! The production of this video was superb, professional and maybe one of your top ten ... thank goodness Aarons back. LOL

I get all that Mike. Some times I think companies just want to have charges for some if the littlest stuff. That would make me mad to call them up and they tell me i have to pay cash. Wow I can see why u don't use them very much. And that looked more like 7+ I'd not be happy to bad u couldnt send that all back. But then it will put u more behind. Thanks for this video. I got woke up rudely this morning in Christmas and all I did was look to see if a video was out and by god it was urs. Thank u so much. It will make my day better. U and the family have a wonderful day today, I hope u all got what u wanted. Great to see u Aaron. Lol lol u like being close to Aaron, DP. Nice big old pooper. At least u made it with enough. I just thought maybe they would throw another kink in this poor and shorten u. Great video.
@TrailTrackers
@TrailTrackers 3 жыл бұрын
@Michael Koop : Everything I was thinking while I was watching the video. I guess great minds do think alike ehh... I'll add that all those extra charges don't surprise me. I'm retired now, but all the years I did flatwork I became accustomed to all those charges. Prices always went up a bit in the winter because of the fees (hot water, calcium, etc.). Not sure if it ever happens to Mike, but a lot of companies around here (northern Utah) also will charge a 'time' fee if you take more than 15-25 minutes to place a truck of mud; that gets not cheap and it's by the minute after a certain time. You learn to pour fast around here. Also, you'd think that supplier would have told Mike on the initial phone call (when he placed the order) that he'd have to pay cash and not wait till the mud was on site. That part of it would have pissed me off real bad. Similar to Mike, it would be a cold day in hell before I used them again.
@michaelkoop6731
@michaelkoop6731 3 жыл бұрын
@@TrailTrackers for sure. I know the company around hear doesn't charge for the hot water but the price does go up in the winter for sure. I think what they do is just combine it all into the main price. I think that's how it should be. Unless the customer wants a itemized bill. I know I hate it with a passion when I have to itemized the bill.

Mike, It looks like if you could collect a bunch of 2 liter soda bottles and cut the bottoms off. They would fit over the tops of the Plumwall supports. MBTS would not be busting his chin or nose on the sharp steel. And you can save the armpit of your Tee shirt.
@markadelman8028
@markadelman8028 3 жыл бұрын
the top of those vertical supports will cut you. I know you can find a rubber cap to put on them. Look at Prescott plastics. Or you can make some wood plugs to drop in. The bottom of the brace, I would do as you say to only have one anchor point. Weld a plate on the bottom bracket and drill a hole in the center of the hole.

A great explanation of why those guys are a Number Two kind of company. We have several of those around here. While construction is booming around here, which is good no doubt, it does let these guys think they have you over a barrel. But folks have a long memory. It won’t always be like this. A year ago the airlines were saying they’d never lose money again and were adding every fee they could think of and cutting every service they couldn’t charge extra for. Now they are sending me an email every week begging me to come back and telling me of the fees that they have removed. But even my old mind can remember only a year ago. I bet you can too.

I loved this video series. Learned a lot about what goes into a foundation. Why don't you use the kind of concrete vibrator that has a long dip stick on this job? Is it better to use one from the outside like you do? Also wanted to say that was a pretty classy way to talk about the concrete company and how they treated a long time customer.

I really like my plumwall braces. Adjusting from the top of the wall is really nice. After using nine for a few walls I might have gone with the 3 piece plumwall so the individual pieces are lighter and sometimes unfolding the one piece braces can be a real pain in tight inside corners.

I work at a concrete plant in Canada and when you order a specific slump and it shows up to wet, you have the right to reject the load. And then you have the right to charge back for labour and time waiting for the pump truck. It is not up to the plant or the driver to decide the slump, it's yours the contractor period. Anywho as the captain says, that plumwall system looks like it's way to go pretty slick. Merry Christmas to you and your family & crew.🎄🎄🎅👍😎

The narrowmindedness of big corporations. They come in, buy up the small companies, and then the whole ballgame changes. Saw this firsthand with Waste Management back when the trash hauling industry went through a major consolidation 15-20 years ago. I used IMI on a one-off home build 27 years ago. They were recommended to me by a fellow with a lot of contracting experience who was helping me out. They did fine for us; worked well with the contractors that did all my concrete work. All these years later I hate hearing the experience you had with them.

Just a thought, but I would dip the tops of those braces into some Plasti Dip, about 2 to 3 inches deep, then let the end dry to create a protective cap. The cap should be able to be removed fairly easily if needed and reinstalled as needed. That should solve the issue. There are other products that also would work like Grip or Liquid Rubber but I would try the Plasti Dip first due to its flexibility. You might also want to make a bunch of wooden forms similar in size to the braces, cover it in some cling film (saran wrap) then dip them to create a removable cap.
