I have high functioning Aspergers and the most stressful part of the holidays is constant family interaction it’s hard for me to be social for so long

That’s my biggest issue. All the socializing back to back and noise.

Hey just wanted to mention that Asperger’s is an outdated term, you can still use it but some might feel strongly about it because of its dark history.

thank you for all the vlogs, I am a mom with 3 children, 2 boys 18 & 3 years with autism and girl with ADD 10 years. I totally let go of Christmas this year. low-stimulus decorations that make our house cozy but it is also nice for everyone. for the youngest I decided to give 1 gift every week instead of everything in one go, because this would be way too much for him. He does not understand what Christmas is at all, but he does love Christmas movies and singing Christmas songs. it works for him to spread it. In addition, I had surgery on my back a few days ago and as a single parent of these fantastic children, I decided to have a nice quiet Christmas without our house being full of guests. our family fortunately understands this. I think it is important to look at your own family and then decide what is nice for you and what will work for you during this busy month. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.🤶🎄🎅❤

When my nephew was 2 he opened one gift in the morning and spent the entire rest of the day behind the couch playing with it. It took him 3 weeks to open all his gifts. This is such helpful information to share especially with extended family who don’t understand why the child on the spectrum isn’t acting like a typically developed child. I will be sharing for sure! Merry Christmas from Virginia (US)!

I’m autistic and I greatly respect you for this video. Especially for the part about not looking excited. It’s a really great video, which is great at explaining how to help autistic children with Christmas. You obviously know a ton about autism such as taking things in small steps and making sure plans are in place so an autistic child knows what’s going on. For adults this is also very helpful.

Thank you so much for this video. We made a concerted effort to tone things down this Christmas, and it really made a difference. More quiet time, and less getting caught up in the things that make Christmas such a difficult time for our Master 9. Blessings and love to your family x

Thanks for this useful video. I'll be so glad when this year is over because from Jan. to july (end of school year) was the worst 6-7 months since Nate started school, thanks to him being in mainstream school so being overstimulated due to the number of children in his class. Has got a little better since september as hes now in special school so in a smaller classroom.

I'm so glad you shared these, but also surprised. My son is 12 and was just diagnosed with autism a few months ago, but we've not had most of these issues. He loves surprises, all types of food, and visitors. However, I can definitely tell a difference in how out of sorts he gets from being overwhelmed by everything. Thanks for sharing!!! I've very interested in you guys laying on top of Dylan. My son loves it went we do stuff like that. I need to understand it more to hopefully help him better.

hey there thats so great your son loves all of that. every child on the spectrum is different so its sort of general information that might help. Dylan loves us squishing him lying on top of him pressure so we do this a lot. it looks totally bizarre but it works x

Autism is a spectrum. Your child’s age, personality and place on the spectrum will greatly affect how their autism presents.

Thanks for the video. It is nice to know that we are not alone in our Holiday struggles and that it is okay if we dont have that picture of all of us in our matching jammies on Christmas morning, ( my autistic 6 year old son refuses to keep them on let alone sit for a cute photo.) And it is okay to leave holiday Family gatherings early and it is okay if traditions do not get followed to the letter. So thanks again and Happy Holidays

charifa charifa hello there it must the be the same when you guys celebrate Eid? Riyaz dylans best friend is Muslim ( dylan is still trying to get us to celebrate that day now also just so he gets more presents) it is hard for you to not see your child having fun around your special days like others. Does he know what’s going on ? Or does he prefer to be alone on these days ? X

Tara is beautiful with an even more beautiful soul. Andrew is handsome and charming, but even more so emotionally intelligent. I wish I had parents like these two when was a kid. Though to be fair less was known when I was a kid. I got labeled 'Aspergers' in 3rd grade. However my parents thought be best keep diagnosis a secret, which looking back was the wrong choice. They switched my label to PDD-NOS when in my early 20s

Hello My 3 year old son was diagnosed in march of 2020 right when the pandemic hit the States. He was in his new school one week before we were in lock down. Just wanted to share because its been hard getting proper support because his teachers didn't know him or how to support him. I've heard you and your husband talking about the difference between discipline and this being Autism. My husband always says I'm giving into him too much. Do you have a video where you discuss this some more. In this Christmas episode "he might throw the present back" whats a good way to address this in the moment? I saw the advice about 8 positives to 1 negative and love that. Any other advice would be amazing. Those in to moment times when its hard not to react negatively or dealing with others who think you should be disciplining. How to get your family on the same page and good responses when they don't understand. I've finally started with my own research and your videos have been AMAZING. Thank you thank you thank you

Wishing your family a very happy Christmas. I really enjoyed watching this video, so full of great advice for all families. My own eldest child is quite a sensitive child who I'm told is not on the spectrum but definitely has some traits. I've had to manage him daily all his life to keep him from feeling overwhelmed, tired, stressed and hes happy and well adjusted child because I make have made this effort. I try to prioritize his needs over family etc who think he should just fall in with their routines, their expectations etc. He probably wont get excited over your gift, he probably wont have a big chat with you or kiss you goodbye, we do need to give him his meals at regular times (and used to have to nap him at regular times as a baby/ toddler in his regular environment), he will probably ask loudly "when are we going home?" Shortly after arriving at your home if there is nothing happening there that interests him, he probably wont want to have his picture taken with you, or smile on demand. I'm not worried about the grown ups, they will have to adjust their expectations. Hes just a child and hes my responsibility. Once the kids feel happy and safe I have done my job.
