I thought you were joking about the bible until you mentioned that you have a folder for 'church'.
@PeterHerget
@PeterHerget 3 жыл бұрын
Nope, I would never made religious jokes for I try extremely hard to be avoid offensive humor ;) On the serious side, yes, the entire King James Bible uploads, reads, and functions quite well on the reMarkable 2 tablet. I enjoy the ability to highlight verses, making notes, and having other eBooks, PDFs, and notebooks with me at all times. I probably carry this tablet with me too often, but it has become part of my daily life and replaced 90% of the paper I used to use nine months ago. @@PeterHerget I like the reMarkable 2 but would not buy it for the price because of substandard functionality in a number of cases. For example page turning swipe, restriction to the reMarkable cloud... Regarding offensive jokes, this is largely a reaction that one learns to be the 'correct' response to certain actions. Much in the way that some people react to particular remarks with anger. This behaviour is unacceptable especially in its most violent manifestations. If someone makes a bad joke (in your opinion) we have to realise the we are entitled to free speech. We can choose to engage with the person, in which case it should be rational engagement or not and/or simply walk away. There are laws that do govern what people can say but causing offense is not a consideration.

Peter, thanks a lot for your reviews and your appearance, sense of humour! I love to smile while watching! Question: Would u say that RM2 is a good tool to write a book on? Main point for me is to have the hand writing converted to text and then to get it onto laptop, where I would edit the details. I use Ubuntu there. Is it possible to connect via USB and get the pages over from RM2 to my laptop in this way? Cause if I got it right, cloud-wise, RM2 only is compatible with Windows and Mac. Thank you and good luck with your projects!
@PeterHerget
@PeterHerget 2 жыл бұрын
WOW and thank you Magdalena! Truly, yours was a great comment. If I were writing a book, yes, I would use the RM2 to write down thoughts, an outline of characters, and other stuff. And then, when came to realistically putting the ink to the paper, I would use an Apple MacBook Air. The OCR (optical character recognition) technology is not quite there when it comes to converted 200 words per page. Now, if your penmanship is superior to mine, sure, you could give it go. In fact, let us try this: 1. my email address is listed under the About section of my KZfaq channel. In your normal handwriting jot down 100 words on a page, scan it at a 300 x 300 DPI (black & white) and then email me the PDF or TIFF image 2. I will then do my best to copy your penmanship style (human font) in the same style on my RM2 3. no swear words, please, for I'll make a video about this for others would love to know too Thank you again and I look forward to creating a VLOG/video to better answer your questions about OCR. Now, as for your USB questions, yeah... I no longer use UBUNTU or Linux OS on my laptops or workstations. However, I have many, many, many geeky friends. I'll ask one of them and connect my RM2 to see what happens. And that will be part 2 of the video I can make for you and the other 7,001 folks that follow me.

I'm looking to replace my daily planner with this. Is it good for that? To do's, syncs calendar w Gmail, journaling etc
@PeterHerget
@PeterHerget 3 жыл бұрын
Well… the reMarkable is an electronic paper tablet and that is best way to describe it. It automatically synchronizes your notebooks, changes to PDFs, and notes annotated on your eBooks. You could create your own customized to-do list template, but it does not sync with Google Docs, Calendar, and Gmail. It functions really well for journaling, note taking, and reading certain eBooks.

I make a lot of drawings on paper at work. The desk is full after a week and I dont find old notes again. Question: Can I leave the RM2 all day on my desk and when making notes I can write directly on that. Or do I have to switch on several seconds, wait, open a document, and make notes? Getting a phonecall, making one note, leave the RM2 on desk and read it all day long without sucking accu capacity?
@PeterHerget
@PeterHerget 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can disable the 20 minute sleep timer so it just stays on. I charge my RM2 about every 6- 11 days depending on use. So, yes, I imagine if you disabled sleep mode and just kept it on it would still easily last a ten-hour day for when you not writing or navigating it is barely using any power.

It probably won't happen, but I sent a suggestion to the team to add hyperlinks between pages/notes/books. I think that's what really makes notebooks in real life work...you can add a post it to pages which sorta works as 'this is important'. Hyperlinks in digital form work a bit like post it notes sticking off the side of a book. Being able to select a bit of writing and linking it to another page...well, now you have a wiki you make in handwriting. OneNote showed it's fun and useful, so...yeah, turn the Remarkable into a physical OneNote machine. :)

WOW! That is a great idea and great use of links 👍

@@PeterHerget Honestly, I don't know why that wasn't a day one consideration. I'm a bit of a tech junkie, but am probably one of the most vocal critics of tech that only goes half way to it's final form. I bought this today because it's still useful to me as a sketch pad and to save paper (i'm literally surrounded by stacks of paper and notebooks and can't take it anymore!) but I'm also a fan of stuff like OneNote and Hypercard (remember that?) and I get frustrated when only one half of a design is the main consideration. If it's supposed to be a digital notebook, you can also lean into the digital too. And that, I think, is just making hyperlinking a part of the product. It's self contained, so there's not really any need to conform to some other product's standards. I'd be fine if links only work inside the unit and the PC/App side of things ignores it. That's completely okay by me. That said, the ask, from a technical point of view, would likely be a hack at this point and thus probably present a lot of problems on the software development side, but we'll see if the suggestion comes from more than me. Obviously one person asking such a feature is not going to bring about said feature, it'll have to be multiple people asking for hyperlinking for it to get any sort of consideration. As much as I'd like to think my ideas are the best and most important, in reality, that's not the case. :)

Been researching e-ink tablets for writing and came across your video. Great review. Seems like a really nice premium product. I could see this being worth it for the build quality, small bezels, etc. for someone who writes a ton every day. But $400 is still a big ask - especially since it doesn't come with the marker. That's more than an entry level iPad. I'm tempted, but there are cheaper options out there that have better organization options (tags, bookmarks) for way cheaper like the Mobiscribe Origin. I'm still researching though and am unsure which device I'll go with.

You said you are going to talk about likes an Dislike i only heared the positive stuff, which was imformative but i am missing the parts that dont work so great. Also what about the pencil tip lifetime? Usually companies make poor tips that are rubish after only a few hours of use. How ist the display effect by scratching it with a sharp edge on the pencil? How exhausting is it to hold it while reading. What do you do to counter the no backlight thing when you want to read in the bed? There are lot of things more i could list here i just think the video is pretty long and still has missing parts.

The dislikes are few. Glad you watched the whole video 👍🏻 As for the stylus tip life it is about 3 to 5 weeks depending on how often you write and the pressure used. When my kids use the tablet the stylus tip wears out a tad more quickly. Truth be told… I have gone through four tips over six months. My dislikes are few: 1. No backlight (problem resolved with a nightlight 2. No eBook integration 3. No bookmarks 4. No keywords or tags for the notebooks Hope this helps. I plan to release another follow up video with more questions answered and a durability review after seven months.

I just stumbled upon this product today and I'm seriously charmed by it. I'm an aspiring writer and struggling with the efficiency of writing on my laptop versus the flexibility of (and bursts of inspiration that I get from) writing by hand. This product would be a perfect link between the two. A remaining question that I have is: I read that the Remarkable can only work with Ebooks that are free of digital rights management restrictions. What does that mean, in practice? Can I read Ebooks (like, fantasy novels) I bought that have the mentioned restrictions, but just can't make digital notes in them? Or can't I read those Ebooks at all?

I am going on the newest update of the RM2 (reMarkable 2) running version 2.8.0.98 and all is well, the few issues I had with this special tablet were fixed with the new code. I used it for over two hours this morning reading & writing, and I am reminded of how much I enjoy it. Nope, it is not for everyone, but sure has been great to have less paper in my life. My favorite part is the no-blue-light screen. My eyes are glued to laptops, smartphones, smartwatches, televisions, remotes, fitness trackers, and another tablet that I use from time to time. Yeah, the break the reMarkable electronic ink gives my brain has been a huge, tremendous benefit. Now, I am not sponsored by reMarkable, and I have tried the Apple iPad Pro (newest version), a Likebook Ares e-ink tablet, and I even ordered the newly released Kobo Elipsa tablet. I like handwriting a lot more than typing. The only thing is, I write pretty small and cursive. What is the smaller cursive size you can write with a decent resolution? I normally write on a 8mm line spacing.

You said no backlight twice. And that could be a plus. Also the no sync with other serveries should be one thing. But it does have a lot of flaws. You plugged it in after it already had installed. Clean your screen before recording at least! The full patch notes bigger if you had scrolled.

@PeterHerget

The new subscription model has many, many, many, many people upset. I pre-ordered my reMarkable 2 tablet last July during the high rate of COVID-19 for I needed something to review and wanted to use less paper. Someone, I was lucky, and reMarkable granted me a free prescription for the next year or so. To be honest though, I don't send emails much from the tablet. I often just send them via the reMarkable app on my phone or laptop. But yes, subscriptions can be upsetting.

It has been nearly one year since the reMarkable 2 launched. I believe the RM2 tablet began shipping in July 2020. Honestly, I would wait until the end of May to see what happens. If anything, as soon as the RM2 is announced eBay and other websites will be flooded with folks selling their RM2 for a great deal for they want to upgrade to the RM3. I am going to keep my reMarkable tablet second edition and give it to my son for his school work and then yes, I plan to upgrade to the new model.

How long till a colour e-ink tablet will be released, do you think?
@PeterHerget
@PeterHerget 3 жыл бұрын
There are already a few tablets with color ink, yet the color ink is just okay at this point. Sony is working on some great features and I hope reMarkable 3 has a color display later in 2021.
@DomainRider
@DomainRider 3 жыл бұрын
The problem with the current colour e-ink technology is that it uses a three-colour filter on top of the monochrome e-ink, so the resolution drops by at least a third when using colour, and it's much darker than an unfiltered screen. Front-lighting can help improve this but has a battery penalty.

Thanks for watching as much as you did. To answer your question... yes and no. The reMarkable Team made a poor choice when they decided to NOT allow customers to choose their own iCloud for backup options. If you decide not to trust reMarkable to store all of your juicy notes, PDFs, and plethora of eBooks; well, there is another option. You can disable the Wi-Fi and keep your e-paper tablet in airplane mode, connect it weekly to your favorite PC via USB and then push all your personal data to Dropbox, Amazon, Google, or some VPS/server farm in Eastern Oregon or Alaska. That being said, nope, I have had any issues with the data storage via reMarkable🤞

Is there any specific reason why in every review I see people write with such a huge font? Is it how you take your notes daily? Don't think so. This really make most of the review useless as we can't figure out what would be the outcome of taking handwritten notes - something that this device is designed for.

Dear Michal, Good Morning, and thanks for watching my review. What size font do you write in and I will do a 100 word test just for you and the other 1,739,999 people that also write in that same size font. My apologies for that thought didn't cross my mind. I normally write small around font size 11 to 13. My guess would be... I was writing in font size 15 or 17 during the video. I appreciate your honesty and look forward to making better reviews.
