Profound, Nerdy Thoughts
I was going to make a 25 Days later video and then decided to wait and I'm glad I did for update 2.5 came out and I chat about that too. This was not my normal format due to time constraints. Thank you for your patience as I learn the responsibilities of a "Tech Reviewer" and the importance of consistent content.

I just finished writing up another KZfaq script for an upcoming video - it totaled 13 pages on the reMarkable 2 tablet. I was really excited about this new video concept so... I wanted to share it with a creative friend of mine in Arizona. I closed the notebook and the reMarkable returned to the main screen. I did a long press on the notebook icon and then a menu appears. I clicked on the "Share" button, chose the email address, typed in a subject, chose the pages I wanted to share, and then clicked on the "Send" button in the top-right-hand corner. Circa three seconds passed by and then everything went blank, no text, no screen, just a blank slate on my piece of electronic paper - UGH! My worst fear had just come to fruition and I lost hours of creative thoughts! The reMarkable 2 tablet choked and restarted all by itself after a Linux lockup. It was exactly 98 days ago that I unboxed and began using this e-tablet. Over those 98 days this the second crash. After the RM2 restarted and total of 30 seconds had passed since I pressed that adorable-looking button labeled, "Share", the device was fully back online. I waited another 88 seconds and then clicked on the notepad of KZfaq Video Ideas. And what did I see...? Not a character was missing - wahoo! What are the most important things for gadgets? 1. usability - they customer, Users, should be able to use the device without fully reading a manual 2. data integrity - when the device is used any data inputted, modified, or accumulated must be saved quickly and securely 3. UI - the User Interface for any gadget is a huge deal breaker for me - it must be clean, intuitive, and without grammar errors 4. battery power - if the gadget cannot last one weekend trip from Friday afternoon to Monday morning, nope, not interested. I call this battery theory - "The Weekend Battery Warrior" 5. customer service - gadgets are only as great as the organization and their reMarkable Support Team. I have another video about this exact topic going public sometime in the next 88 hours Thank you for listening and I am glad this comment has a happy ending. 98 days later and I have yet to lose only 20 characters from using this electronic-ink tablet. The characters lost were when I was cutting and pasting and it was at the end of words when certain characters got truncated. No, gadgets are not perfect - not even when they are endorsed by a fruit company...

Was there a lot of flicking during the video? Electronic-ink tablets do have to flicker or refresh to repaint the display - similar to how a Kindle reader functions if you have ever used one of those devices.

Let me put it this way.... I had the opportunity to buy an iPad at Costco a few months ago, had one all picked out and everything. When it came down to it I needed a replacement for paper and not another large iPhone. Apple iPads with the iPencil 😗 are great. I simply love the paper-like experience without any distractions. Yes, yes it can! As with any OCR (optical character recognition) software, yep, you guessed it- the quality of your penmanship is imperative. My mom was diligent with me growing up; ergo, my handwriting is above average a d converts to text with about 80% accuracy.

When I try to get a replacement ..... it is almost impossible to find out how to return or complain on their website. Then when I do I get a reply 3 days later saying I have complained incorrectly and need to register a different way with photographs .... ten days later still no reply !!! Not impressed !!!

So sorry to hear that news Andrew 😕 So, there was a line across your reMarkable screen as in a line of broken pixels? Could you possibly do a review and lost it on your channel? I had an issue with my Marker Plus stylus and the following day the reMarkable Support Team responded and every day since I have been working with them all of my support responses have been same day and even hours later. They are sending me a new stylus in just a few days. I sincerely hope you either get a replacement unit ASAP or a refund. Please, let me know for quite curious...

Nice video, but are ye seriously suggesting that the pen makes a different scratching sound depending on which tool you have selected
@PeterHerget
@PeterHerget 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Just as a pencil sounds different when it applies to different types of paper and just like how different pencils sound. With 4,000 different pressure points does it sound that impossible...?
@Tekapeel
@Tekapeel 3 жыл бұрын
@@PeterHerget ..but the surface never changes and the pen never changes. The pressure sensitivity responds to the force you apply to it, maybe it makes a different noise when you're pressing very hard compared to just brushing the surface. The pencil is completely passive and has no idea which tool you have selected on the tablet and therefore can't change itself in response

How would compare the senses of taste and smell? The sensations of sound and touch when writing on the reMarkable tablet are similar. I have had complete strangers tell me that the different pen options feel differently 🙂

I have been able to get my reMarkable to connect with any Wi-Fi that doesn't require secondary browser authentication. That in itself is quite problematic for many hotels require a browser authentication with your room # and name... I ran into this issue on a recent holiday to Las Vegas and had to use my Version Hotspot to connect the reMarkable 2 with Internet to backup some documents and upload some PDFs for work. I heard a rumor that this Wi-Fi issue could be fixed after in 2021 with a software upgrade.

@@PeterHerget Hi Peter. I'm still using my remarkable a lot. I've learned how to organize it for my math studies, and I also use the calendar template a lot. The battery holds a really long time, which is a massive plus. I still haven't tried the LiveView option, but I don't think I'll ever need it. My only regret is that I realized the dimensions are a little bit too small compared to those of a piece of paper (I knew they weren't going to be the sames, but I noticed that I have to change to next page more often that I'd like to). Overall, I'm still really satisfied !

You can't have backlight in an e-ink device. You can front light them, but with the drawback that it will create an additional distance of the pen tip from the writing surface, making drawing less accurate, and, when the light is not on, making the surface look a little dimmer.

One main thing I want to hear from all these reviews is comment on all the bad reviews. Facebook comments, google reviews etc. TONS of people complaining they’ve never received their tablet, that the tablet and/or pen was broken, that nobody replies to customer service requests and even that the company is actually in Hong Kong and not Norway. I’m worried. I bought one, and *supposedly* it should be shipped soon (from where tho?) and I truly truly don’t want to deal with being out $600 because this company can’t be bothered to spend as much on service and support as they do on marketing..... Definitely not okay with being out $600 when/if I decide I don’t want it, and either cancel, or return for a refund (also complaints that refunds are never issued, and instructions on returning the tablet aren’t forthcoming). What was your experience, ordering and receiving this? Have you spoken DIRECTLY with anyone at Remarkable?

There are many aspects from Evernote that would make the reMarkable series so very useful for organization and daily work life. You cannot currently search for content within your notebooks either :( and that is a shame. You can search for things by the title and thus, I have been making my Notebook titles longer to make sure I can locate stuff for I now have over 100 notebooks over the past 110 plus days I've been using this tablet.

Five to 15 seconds later that same PDF appears on the reMarkable under the PDF folder. You can view all the pages, write text over text, circle text, write in the margins or add up to five layers... The number of PDF files the reMarkable tablet can store will directly relate to the size of each PDF or eBook. The larger number of pages doesn’t always equate to a larger sized doc. Often the amount of black ink of the page or intricate artwork may also increase file size. I am nearly two months in with this tablet. I will add more eBooks & PDF files to incorporate more valid testing to answer your questions 🤠

A great, yet very difficult question. I don't know how many notes you would be taking on a daily basis. I take many pages daily and each week I have been adding more PDFs & eBooks. I have kids that like to draw on the reMarkable tablet as well. I just checked 11 seconds ago the reMarkable 'Storage Settings' read 0.94 GB of 6.41 GB used. This means I still have 5.47 GB of space left. Here is an example: 1. if you download the epubbook version of the King James Bible that is 1.5 MB and it contains 3,284 pages. 2. you could upload 667 eBook volumes the size of the King James Bile and still have another 4.3 GB of free space left on the reMarkable 2 tablets that I've used every day for the past 50 days. Ergo, yeah, unless you plan on taking more than 10,000 pages of notes during your college career - you should be just fine... I hope this answered your questions. If not, please let me know for I will doing more reMarkable 2 tablet reviews and I can address those questions in the video. Thank you kindly for the pithy comments and for watching MrSimmo 😃

Yes, and yes, any college text that is DRM free could be uploaded and synchronized with the reMarkable tablet and cloud. Any PDF or ebook has the ability for either annotations or lighting. I will do a segment on this during my next video I am already scripting for 02-20-2021 when I reach my three-month mark with this reMarkable 2 electronic-ink tablet. Can you input a time and date stamp your notes? Also, any improvement in searching for specific notes? How does it compare with OneNote?
@PeterHerget
@PeterHerget 3 жыл бұрын
I have not seen a way to input a time & date stamp automatically on the reMarkable. Microsoft OneNote has a limitation on exports when you create a long note. When I created a long entry on my old Microsoft Surface and then tried to share it, nope, OneNote would not allow that whereas on the reMarkable I can easily share a 20-page notebook, so there is one main different. OneNote also allows for many font colors and the reMarkable is just black, gray, and white. However, the paper-like writing is what makes the reMarkable standout. And yes, you can search for specific notes. I shared that feature in my latest video, "Top 24 reMarkable Questions." Thanks for watching and I hope that answers your questions.

90% of the time I do… Sometimes you need electronic paper and other situations there is the need for a computer. The reMarkable was designed to replace paper note taking, organizing thoughts, portable book reader (Kindle device), and the functionality of a true stylus that mimics a ✏️ pencil, 🖊 a pen, highlighter, mechanical pencil, a calligraphy 🪶 quill, and then 22 more pens. All in all, yes, I would be a fan boy of reMarkable if they… 1. Integrated with Amazon eBooks 2. Integrated with Google Docs or Evernote 3. My Dad is in a meeting right now and asked me to respond. I have used the reMarkable 2 tablet for many many hours. Here are some notes he wanted me to share with you as follows: 1. when you first turn on your reMarkable it should allow to go through a wizard 2. close the Quick Sheets you have been using by either swiping down from the top of the tablet or clicking the X in the top right hand corner 3. after you close Quick Sheets, click on the Menu link/button in the top left-hand corner 4. choose Notebooks 5. if you don't see any Notebooks, you can easily create on by clicking on the "+ Notebooks" link on the top of your reMarkable 2 tablet. Between my dad, sister, and I we have created over 50 Notebooks with various titles. You can think of a Notebook as a "file of notes". A Notebook can be a small as just one page or over 50 pages. Neither of us has reached a limit to the number of pages allowed within one Notebook. 6. click on Menu again and then choose "My Files" in the top left hand corner 7. You should not see a "My Files" label on the top left of the tablet's screen - this is where you can easily organize your folders, notebooks, and get an overall view of your information/notes. You can add parent folders and then create child folders within those just like on a Windows or Apple computer. 8. Quick sheets - is a shortcut on the reMarkable 2 tablet to quickly add a note. As far as creating more than just one "Quick Sheets" - nope, we haven't figured out how to do that and our Quick Sheet is now up to page 72. I hope this helps, if not just respond and my Dad will chat with you further. If you would to chat with him directly - please visit our Facebook page facebook.com/gadgetsanonymous/

Excellent points Maximilianmus! I be to differ though for I have tried to take notes on a smartphones this year, last year, and every year since the first stylus emerged. That being said, the reMarkable tablets are not, nor will they ever be for everyone just like Androids vs. Apples or Blackberry phones vs. Nokia. I strongly believe there is just the right gadget for most humans. I have a coworker, and yes, he is much smarter than I. He doesn't believe in smartphone for they are a distraction from life. He carries a $30.00 flip phone with him and purchased an Apple iPad for everything else. Nope, he doesn't carry the iPad with him often and he doesn't bring to meetings. On the other hand, I bring my reMarkable 2 tablet with me nearly everywhere now for it is endless paper - a true paper-like experience. The company reMarkable doesn't pay me a dime, there is nothing in for me to shout their praises. However, after just five days of usage, yes, I already knew what I still know today - I enjoy writing on the device. The paper-like sounds, feel, and no distractions when writing and reading have been a wonderful holiday for my gadget-driven life. There are many adults in the same boat as I - too many electronics (says the man that is struggling to run, manage, and produce for a KZfaq channel all about gadgets). Yes, it is expensive and so are most smart portables. I enjoy the lack of clutter in my suitcase, less trips to the store to purchase more 3-M Post-It Notes, and the ability to give the reMarkable to one of kids without the worry of them finding something offensive on the Internet or playing some mindless game. Yeah, I have become quite the fan-boy of reMarkable - they even sent me a free stylus after I dropped my original one. My views and opinions may change as time goes forward. I am extremely curious how this paper-substitute of a tablet holds up when the one-year mark arrives. Until then, thank you so much for the comments and yes, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite is a great device too and the Samsung S-Pen is a wonderful tool for writing. As the expression goes - whatever floats your boat, or this case - whatever keeps you writing...
