1. "How many calories should I eat to lose weight?"
1200 calories a day is generally considered effective for weight loss for moderately active women over the age of 50. For more information on calculating your calories for weight loss you may like to watch this video:

2. "Will calorie counting work for me?"
Calorie counting is not an exact science. Everyone has a unique metabolism, diet history and lifestyle, and these different factors will affect how you respond to different diets, including calorie restriction. It may take a little trial and error before you find the best calorie level for you, but 1200 calories is a good place to start.
3. "I lost weight for a few weeks, now my weight is stuck. Should I eat less calories?"
Eating less than 1200 calories is not usually recommended, except under medical supervision, because most people need at least that number to maintain basic bodily functions and stay healthy.
4. "How can I get my weight moving again, if I'm not supposed to drop my calories?"
Our bodies are very efficient, and over time may slow down metabolic processes in order to survive on less calories, making it harder to lose weight. If you are stuck on a plateau, try varying your calories throughout the week, so some days you eat less and others you eat more, for a total of 8400 calories for the week (1200 x 7). This keeps your body guessing and doesn't give it a chance to adapt.
5. "Why do you like counting calories so much?"
Counting calories is not the only way to lose weight, but it is certainly one of the most effective. It is also one of the most flexible diets around, as there are no forbidden foods or food groups that you have to avoid. What you eat is entirely up to you, although obviously it is advisable to choose mostly nutritious foods, and cut down on empty calories like sugar. I love that I can have a little treat (usually chocolate or ice cream) every night and still lose weight. This keeps me happy and stops cravings from building up, helping to prevent binges.
6. "Do you drink alcohol?"
I make it a rule to never drink my calories - so that means no fruit juice, soft drinks, smoothies or alcohol. I find that liquid calories go down too quickly and don't satisfy me like whole foods do. This doesn't mean that you have to avoid alcohol to lose weight. If a glass of wine is something you really enjoy you can have it, as long as you count the calories (a small glass is about 100 calories.)

Hi Linda, I'm really glad you're here. I hope my videos will help you to break free from bingeing and disordered eating. I've been there and done it all when it comes to dieting, and eating once a day doesn't work unless you are the kind of person who is so busy, and so uninterested in food generally, that you just forget to eat. I'm guessing you're much more of a food lover (like me). If dieting feels like deprivation you'll never be able to stick with it long enough to reach your goal, so try to make it enjoyable by eating regular meals and including all your favourite foods in moderation. xxLisa

We get told we can't have dried fruit we cannot have pizza or cheese but you showed us we can have our pizza and eat it too!!!

Thanks so much for this! I love your videos. I’m 54 too and boy am I struggling! This is a great sample meal plan but didn’t you find sticking to 1200 calories difficult day in and out? I’m 5’2 so that’s definitely where I need to be to see any progress. But no matter how I slice it, I’m hungry! Night time is the worst. Keep sharing more tips! You’re inspiring!

Aww Lisa, I do empathize. Dieting can be tough unless you're HUGELY motivated - then it's a breeze. I find 1200 calories is very satisfying. After a week or two your body definitely gets used to less food, you just need to get into the routine of it. Get started now and you can give yourself a lovely new body for Christmas! 👍😀💝

Hi Liz, great question! I recently put up a video showing how I'd lost 10 pounds in 2 months. The 1st month was by eating 1200 calories, and the 2nd month was when I tried the 4 diets. I got so many people asking what I ate during the 1200 calorie month, I thought I'd show a sample day, even though I'm not actually dieting any more. Glad you enjoy the videos! 😀❤

Hi, I've been on a 1200 calorie a day, (actually I think that due to miscounting, it's been less calories than that) for approx 4.5 months and I'm almost down to my ideal weight. I cannot find any information about what to do to maintain my ideal weight as I certainly don't want to continue losing weight or putting it on again once I hit my mark. Anybody know?

All your videos are helpful im a newbee to start on weigh lifting please can you advise me should I learn at home alone coach at gym jus are too expensive long term did you track your macros to eat certain amount of protein carbs and fat?? Did you weigh food??what about protein powder did you take protein powder?? please help!!

You can strength train at home but it's vital you learn correct technique first, so a couple of sessions with a trainer can be a good idea. I didn't track macros or use protein powder. I only tracked calories, which does necessitate weighing some foods. 🙂

I'm glad you like it. No, there's no need to I.F. with calorie counting. The exception is if I'm going out for dinner I'll skip lunch to save up the calories so I can splurge a bit. Otherwise it's breakfast around 8am, lunch 12.30 and dinner at 6pm. 🙂

Carbs are not bad. Our bodies function better when we are well balanced and eat healthy whole foods as much as we can.

Carbs are only "bad" if you are following a low carb diet. On a calorie-counting diet, complex carbohydrates like veggies and whole grains are a great source of many nutrients and antioxidants, as well as dietary fiber to keep you regular (Do not underestimate the importance of THAT!!) 👍😀

Dukkah is a delicious mixture of crushed nuts, herbs and spices. I buy mine in little boxes at the supermarket and use it to coat everything, and also sprinkle it on cooked veggies. 🙂
