Black Stump 4x4

4 жыл бұрын

4 years of modifying a Mazda BT-50 condensed into 3 and a bit minutes. Instead of footage of working on the car, I thought it'd be more interesting to portray the transformation with 4x4 videos.
Subscribe to see what happens next. I've got a few more big ideas in store.

Julie Rene not legally and you’ll get a tonne more body roll depending on how soft your springs are. It rides a lot nicer though and I actually liked the softer feel.

Bro that’s an awesome rig! Super keen to know why you chose a few bits and pieces e.g Fox shocks and tough dog leafs? Also never heard of a sway bar delete, what’s that all about?
@123mj1234
@123mj1234 4 жыл бұрын
Corey Andersson Thanks mate, it’s coming along pretty well 👍 I chose Fox mostly because of their reputation for ride and durability, I wanted a shock that I could punish and know that I wasn’t gonna break it. As for tough dog leaves, that’s what was recommended to me by Solve Offroad in Sydney who tuned the shocks. The swaybar delete was just me removing my front sway bar entirely to get more flex and ride comfort from the front end, it does roll a lot more on road though and I’ve since put it back in because my CVs started clicking

Black Stump 4x4 and Adventure nice one mate. I’am in Sydney also, I might check those guys out (solve). I also want to use some Fox shocks for the same reason, are yours standard, nitro or something else like foam cell or remote res. Whilst your here also, hah you’ve done strut spaces am I right? Was there a reason not to do a full three inch suspension lift, like would you need a “diff drop” kit to do it ?. Thanks for the tip on the sway bar, I wonder if there’s an adjustable one out there 🤔. At the minimum I’d like to do front locker, three inch fox remote res, and 33’ s. Hence all the questions thanks again mate, would love to see your rig on the tracks

Black Stump 4x4 and Adventure. I forgot, one more question, parabolic leaves springs is that even a thing for a bt-50’s?
@123mj1234
@123mj1234 4 жыл бұрын
@@Fernweh4x4andadventure No worries mate. Mine are just the standard Fox 2.0 tuned by Solve to suit the car. I don't run strut spacers so I only have the front lifted 2.5", because any taller and you will sacrifice ride comfort for no real gain off road. Plenty of people are running 3" lift in these cars with no diff drop and no CV issues, but it will ride harsher as you wind the strut up so its all personal preference of looks vs performance. With appropriate offset you will fit 33s on stock suspension and 34s/35s with guard work, so there's no real need to go with a big lift IMO. As for parabolics I know Dobinsons make a set, but I never considered them with how heavy my tray setup is.

Hey mate, love the rig. Did you notice a big difference with the sway bar delete?
@123mj1234
@123mj1234 4 жыл бұрын
ldegouw Yeah so much more comfortable on and off road since it allows the suspension to work independently, but also doubled the amount of body roll I had so it depends what you’re after. I ended up putting it back in because I broke a CV with it out, not sure if the swaybar delete caused it but I didn’t want to risk breaking any more.

I’m rocking a BT, and after getting some 33’s do you find the pos20 offset in your tires helps? Or do you reckon I could run a 17x8 0 offset? Sick setup by the way! 👌🏼
@123mj1234
@123mj1234 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, +20 offset works best on these for clearing tyres. I've never run 0 offset so can't say for sure whether they'd fit with 33s. For them to work at full compression and full lock with 0 offset I'd say at the very least you'd probably need to remove the honey comb block from inside the guard and pin it back.

Hey mate, love ya rig. Couple of questions, did you notice any performance gain going the 3" with cat exhaust from the muffler delete? Did the fox 2.0 suspension make the car more comfortable on the street? I.e. was the ride more plush than factory, or was it firmer? And lastly the led upgrade on the headlights, did it make the lights way better for night driving?
@123mj1234
@123mj1234 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate - I didn't notice any performance gains from either of the exhaust setups, just way more fun to drive with some noise. Fox 2.0 when setup well is unreal, especially without a swaybar to free up the front end, feels like you're on a cloud in comparison to stock haha. And yeah the LED lights were tonnes brighter and made the car feel more modern but I had a few issues with them, I'd probably just stick with halogen unless you really need more light.
@turbostyler
@turbostyler 2 жыл бұрын
@@123mj1234 Thanks for taking the time to reply mate, really appreciate it! I've got the muffler delete and I'm going to stick with that seeing there isn't really any gain there. The fox 2.0 suspension is something I'm keen to do to make the ride a bit better and get a lift. I'll also give the lights a miss, as I find the stock lights alright for what I need. Thanks again mate!

Hi mate, I am contemplating running 34s next instead of my 33s. Do your 34s scrub when suspension is compressed while turning the steering wheel sometimes ? Would you go back to 33s to stay legal and have more tyre choice available in 33 etc ? Any other feedback would be much appreciated.
@123mj1234
@123mj1234 4 жыл бұрын
Scott Nah mate I love the 34s, if anything I would only go up to 35s. At full compression and full lock they might scrub depending on offset, but it hasn’t been a problem for me on +20 wheels.

Scott Best tyre I’ve run by far - awesome on road manners, great grip off road, long lifespan for muddies and they’re near indestructible. Only con I think of is that they are damn heavy and need quite low pressure to bag properly.

It's an XT, definitely the best value of the range and has vinyl floors instead of carpet which is a big plus. The first few mods I'd be doing are 33 inch tyres on some +20 steelies/alloys, a snorkel, rock sliders and a dual battery set up so you can run a fridge.

@123mj1234
@123mj1234 3 жыл бұрын
hey mate, honestly between mine and Ryan’s we never had anything major go wrong. That’s with over 10 years and 200,000 kms between our cars, much of which was spent doing harder 4wding than most IFS utes would, and also some pretty remote and heavily corrugated trips. So from personal experience, the BT-50 was insanely reliable. In saying that, if you spend 10 minutes in a BT-50 group on Facebook, you’ll find too many people who have had big engine and auto trans issues, so there is a risk of pretty significant failure if you’re in the unlucky minority.
