1. Ha Gow is not 'technically' the same as the rice noodle roll with shrimp 2. Siu Mai is orange because sometimes they put fish roe on top 3. Those are spare ribs, not short ribs 4. I don't think seafood wonton is a classic dim sum dish 5. That 'tofu wrapper' is bean curd 6. That is not salted duck egg bun, it's a milk egg custard bun

Thanks for this post. Brings back many nice family memories of Sunday brunch back in the early nineties in Atlanta (Chamblee, actually, at Honto restaurant). I don't know how we found it (they didn't advertise and 99% of the staff did not speak English) but sure am glad we did. Fantastic food, even the chicken feet.

I grew up on Dim-sum. It's easily one of my favorite dishes. I pass by Flushing Main street on my way to work, and that's when most of the Dim-sum is available. I used to eat Dim-sum in movie theaters as a snack in lieu of the usual popcorn. Siomai is easily my favorite, but I love all the stuff that you showed. I also love Stuffed taro.

I was born and most of my family comes from the deep south (U.S.), originally from poor German-French-Welsh heritage where we not only like our food bold but will eat almost anything edible, and I have. Tripe and "Chittlins" (pork intestines) were eaten (nothing was wasted on a slaughtered hog including the head-"Head Cheese"), so You can imagine how hungry this vlog is making me.

It's interesting the way they introduce dimsum in these videos, as there seem to be lots of small differences between their experience and mine living in Hong Kong. It was quite interesting for me to watch this, since I have no experience eating dimsum anywhere else. For example in HK you rarely see the restaurants with a cart - there's only one place I with a cart that I go to with my partner, and he always said it was a well know place for still doing that. Now you nearly always tick what you want off of a paper menu. I've also never seen siumai with carrot on top! I've always seen them with crab roe as the topping. I was never shown to eat everything with hot sauce too, in HK some specific dishes come with the appropriate sauce and everything else was eaten as it is. I also only ever went to yumcha for breakfast around 10-12 in the morning, I was surprised they didn't mention this! I'd find it really weird to yumcha for dinner or something. I was always shown to hold the small bowl while I was eating as well, whereas here I can see they're using plates instead. There's also the whole thing of washing the cups, bowls and chopsticks before the meal too. Also.... he'd never had custard buns before?! Agreed with the girl on the left - how is that even possible XD haha

that lools amazing!! ive had chicken wraped in, like the wraps here on this video, i dont know what to call the ouside part of the Dim Sum. then there was soup with the same thing & a massive load of other Chinese foods. i loved it all!! it was in Toronto i think at a Chinese all you can eat buffet kinda restaurant called Ken Wongs. it was in 1992 so a while ago now for shure. it was the first time i has Chinese food & ive been a fan ever since. im English, live in England & you just cant get proper authentic Chinee food here unlesd you go to an Authentic Chinese food restaurant which is very pricey & unless you live in the biggest cities, theyre very few & gar between! However there are Chinese take aways on every street corner & tho (the staff say) you get genuine Chinese food on the menu, most of it is westernised & ive never seen Dim Sum. id love to try it for sure!! :)

If you have an aversion to seafood, you can often get the noodle rolls (the 2nd dish they had) w/ beef or pork instead, and sometimes you can get pork-only shumai, but you may have to ask for it and wait for them to prepare it special for you. Also, the char siu bao (the white steamed pork bun) is also usually available in a honey-glazed baked version. They also usually have the shrimp dumplings (the 1st dish) available in a version w/ cilantro (and sometimes peas). One of my favorite places near me also has a special seafood dumpling like the shrimp dumpling, but about 1.5-2x the size w/ (I think) scallop also in it and topped w/ dungeness crab meat, but is one of the pricier items you can get.

I've never been to NYC for dim sum, but I can say that out in LA there are a lot of dim sum places to the point where quality seems to be more or less the same. There are 2 that come in my mind that seem to be the "it" places for my family and circles when it comes to Dim Sum: Atlantic Seafood & Dim Sum Restaurant, and Elite. Both are on Atlantic Blvd in Monterey Park. I want to give some extra mentions to Ma Lai Go (vanilla cake), Doh Fu Fa (Tofu Flower), and Gau Tsoi Gao (Chive Dumplings). The latter is pretty awesome with some good chili sauce. Oh, and you must find the chicken-stuffed pineapple bun! Those are good too!
