This is maybe the best Tornado footage I've ever seen. A clear Meso strike right on camera. You can see the small Mesovortex(small tornado inside of a larger overall rotation) come into view, from the left side of the screen, heading right for the house, at 1:25 Replay it a few times and you can see it clearly. It passes just to the right of the big tree in the far left of the frame, and to the left of the smaller trees. It comes through the yard to the left of the driveway, and hits the house with an immediate audible crash. You can clearly see it. It hits the left side of the house and you can hear the glass breaking and debris moving on the left side of the camera. They are very dangerous. Often smaller than the size of one house(this one looks like its MAYBE 10 feet wide at the ground), but can have 200+ mph winds in them. I've seen some houses with a strip torn out of them, right down the middle of the house, because a Mesovortex came through there that was only a few feet wide on the ground, but with insanely powerful wind. Its like a buzzsaw.
@claireb1181

Now I know what a mesovortex is. I didn't see the wind/debris at the time stamp until you pointed it out to me; when I first heard the crash, I thought that was just debris. The fact that was a buzzsaw tornado ripping through a house using wind force is terrifying.

You would be correct. That was a smaller vorticity that spun up on the outer wall of the main tornado. Forward motion was 70+mph, with estimated velocity inside that vortex being 180mph at the very least. One parcel(piece of debris) travelled one rotation in roughly one second which gives me the estimated wind speed.

@@originallyitsmissmickey Most don't do both is the point. Prayers substitute action. Most people going to social media to say thoughts and prayers aren't doing jack shit. They are typing those words to pat themselves on the back and pretend like they've done something of substance. It's about social credit, rather than truly helping people. Maybe part of it is because these people are truly convinced an imaginary fairy in the sky is going to help others if you pray to it. But I think it's mostly just based on selfishness. The warm feeling like you've done something good, without actually lifting a finger. This is why it's a go-to phrase among politicians. The get to feign like they care and take all the credit, even though they won't actually do anything to help, despite having enormous power to lend aid. I'd rather never see the phrase or idea again. It's a meme at this point. Words from strangers aren't comforting people who have lost loved ones or homes. The comfort these people feel are from true acts of kindness, true substantive aid and words from loved ones.

@@Cthulhu013 I completely understand. But, some people actually mean it. They don't just say "praying for ____" for fun. They actually do it. Like for Ukraine, when people say "Praying for Ukraine right now", they (most of the time, I'm not saying EVERYONE does it) mean it. It's fine if you don't believe in Christianity, but I do, and a lot of other people do. But what I meant by "They could do both." is that they can pray for anyone affected in the storm and they can also donate sleeping bags, money, food, first aid kits, toys, clothes, etc. to them. That's all I have to say right now.
@Cthulhu013

@@originallyitsmissmickey Oh I've been getting on to people about the Ukraine thing too. I notice too often people claiming to support Ukraine, putting the little flag in their twitter bio, only for them to tell me when I ask them in what manner have they supported Ukraine, "Well, I tweeted about it." "Oh, I liked this post on facebook a few days back ..." "I pray for them every night." I just shake my head at them. Every time. They're just saying words. They don't mean it. It's all about social media credit. I can count on one hand the number of people I know personally who has actually done anything substantive for Ukraine. I have a big family of fundamentalist Christians. Hardly any of them have lifted a finger for Ukraine other than to press a like button or a retweet or favorite or to send 'thoughts & prayers'. I'm not suggesting everybody does it. But most probably do, especially if you're reading their comment about it on social media. People that care aren't going to spend much time posting about it online, when they've already done something substantive for a cause. Maybe instead they'd post a link to a charity or an address to send supplies to if they are going to bother. I think we need to end the thoughts and prayers language routine that follows every tragedy, if only to not platform those looking to hijack it for their own narcissism. If you really care, you don't need to do both. You only need to lend a helping hand or wallet. If you're a loved one or friend of those afflicted, reach out privately with thoughts and prayers. If you're a stranger, make that donation. Volunteer. Send supplies. And if you want to send a little note of thoughts and prayers along with all that, fine. It doesn't do anything, but it's harmless. Where it doesn't belong is on social media so that 10k people can retweet it where maybe a handful of them actually show real support.

We had 3 EF2 tornadoes here in Sioux Falls at about 11:00 p.m. on 9/10/19, and some fool only set off some of the sirens. I was watching out my deck door on the top (4th) floor of my apt. bldg., and it was raining so hard I couldn't see anything so I had no idea about the tornadoes, even tho I came to find I was just outside the area of most damage. Here's hoping they've hired a monkey in the meantime who knows to flip ALL the siren switches next time so I and the rest of the residents in this big apt. acomplex will know to head to the underground parking areas!

I pray for everyone affected by a tornado. I know all too well what it's like to go through one. Onalaska, TX 4-22-20. That was our life changing day (tornado). My advice is to keep positive even when all seems hopeless. You have your life. The rest really isn't that important.

Prayers don't do much. If you know what it's like to go through one, then rather than just offering prayers, please do something of substance. Prayers fall on deaf ears. It's like the tree falling in the woods when nobody is around. Does it make a sound? Nobody is around to hear it. And in the case of prayers, even if they were, it doesn't magically improve their lives. We've studied prayer and its efficacy. We know how ineffective it is.

This is an interesting video. That seems to be a circulation around 1:30 that moved in after the main circulation passed by seemingly to the North. It would be a place you would expect a satellite tornado if there was one. Since this tornado was violet, it likely had some satellites at some point. It looked to have occurred after the main RFD surge passed by. Interesting.

The sirens aren't controlled by the national weather service they are controlled by the county emergency management and they have to get the info from the national weather service and make sure it meets their criteria before activating the sirens. For example my county used to have a policy of activating the sirens if we had a severe thunderstorm warning during a tornado watch. So it's entirely up to the county when and if the sirens are activated. Even then they are outdoor warning sirens and their purpose is to get people who are outside to go inside and seek further information they are not meant to alert people who are already inside.

National Weather service had issued a Tornado warning just to the West of us here in the Massillon, OH area. We all ran to our vehicles. I was only 2 miles from home. Just got in the garage and I see this white wall of wind destroying my neighbors garage. I grabbed my dog like a fumble in a Super Bowl game and ran downstairs. My wife screaming at me to get in the basement. It blew past doing they say 55 mph. I ran upstairs and everything appeared intact until I opened the garage. Wall blew out and garage doors caved in. Had I been a minute or two later, my neighbors Gazebo would have probably killed me as it was smashed into my house. $25,000 damage. F-1
