Excellent demonstration! I learned a few great things from your commentary and technique. I was taking notes: > In my experience, blowing the airlock doors on the heavy cargo gecko can cause a reactor meltdown, so I shelved that strat. Have you had meltdowns? If not, how do you avoid them? I'd love to breach this way but not at the risk of losing the ship. > Your cargo container tethering is just insane. It's probably 2-3 times faster than mine, even at my best. > 3:27 WOW never thought to clear the nosecone that way! I'm gonna have to time trial your way. I think it'd be a 50/50 toss-up between your way and mine, in terms of speed. > Regarding grapple pulsing, I've never spammed left click, but I can say for sure that spamming right click while maintaining a grapple beam lets you move very heavy objects without pulling yourself around. I use it most commonly on thrusters & cargo containers. > I stole your 12x storage container pull last week. It's probably my favorite part of a Gecko run now. > Unless I'm crazy, utility arms (salvage arms) are worth 12,000, not 80,000. I don't even mess with them anymore unless they're right there in my face begging to be tethered to the barge. > I laughed out loud at 12:30 when the computer got processed - i do that all the time. > Splitsawing the ECU wall is a great technique, and is far faster than my approach of burning the floor with the stinger and splitsawing the pipe attaching the ECU to the wall - this is gonna save me a lot of time. > Based on testing I did, the inner hull (including cockpit assembly) is worth about 150,000 if you put it in the furnace. Off the top of my head, I can think of 4 doors in the inner hull assembly, totaling 48,000, so I think you come out ahead by using the furnace - by a factor of 3. I *think*, unless I'm just toally missing something obvious. Now, as far as feedback (not that you asked), honestly, I think you lose a lot of time by cutting all the outer hull cut points, for no gain. I only cut the 4 or 8 in the rear/top of the ship (depending on layout), and after separating the nosecone, you can pull either top side part with 4 tethers. I'm highly confident that my way is a lot faster, even though I use a few more tethers. Same thing with the bottom hull. I've started leaving one side entirely attached, minus one plate in the rear. 6 tethers can pull half the bottom outer hull in for processing, saving tons of time. Anyways man, thanks for the run! I recently had a 14.3 million run on this ship too, but I did the math and your utilization percentage was higher, at 95.22% (14,333,680 earned, out of 15,052,569 total value), versus my 94.08 (14,315,750 earned, out of 15,215,570 total value). Those last few percentage points get exponentially harder to eek out, so this was truly the superior run, even though those numbers look close on paper.

It would've been so much better if I had just acquired the consoles in the airlocks and extracted the glass from the front inner-hull sections. That's another $130K-ish right there. I remain unconvinced about the lower hull. I think it's more important to get the pieces away from the ship and also into processor so that you have a clear path to the barge for the storage crates, and so that nothing is blocking the processors. I was actually super annoyed at the upper hull taking so much time to go in during this run. I'll need to properly show off the upper hull trick sometime. I don't know what you mean by wasting time on cut points -- I only cut 2 more than you do for the upper hull section. That's barely anything, and it can easily be done (by a more competent person than I) while just traveling through the middle as part of making your way up to the front of the ship. The rest, well, there's a *lot* that can be done to optimize this. I saw hundreds of thousands of salvage that I should've gotten just pissed away from sloppy barging and a general lack of care here. Part of the challenge is that RACE takes up a lot of space in my brain. I basically have to memorize a new ship and route every week, and another part is that since it's a career ship, every attempt at this run is basically a one-shot (unless you save-scum...but I don't do that). Also if it was *not* a ghost ship I could've had a lot more time to do things. Collectively the AI nodes must've taken at least a minute to deal with.

Today, I learned. :D "The spiral pull" makes me think of a spider when it arrives in the barge, I often have to give it a good push at the end because all the storage bins are crownding in the same space, but since they're all still link it looks like a crawling beast of some sort. I like spiral pull, I'm adopting that "Rocket surgeon", new title unlocked! I'm very happy to have seen your commentary, I'll probably watch this video again whenever I make another 14M shift attempt! Thank you for sharing your tips, and to a new year of discoveries!

I picked up a few techniques from this. But one thing I do different it when you have that large section of exterior panels on top of each side. The ones connected with the rails. I find if you tether from the rear most panel instead of the front it swings it right around into the processor gravity faster and using just 3 tethers. Attach to the red square that is painted on the rear most of that section of panel to just outside of the processor.

Hey, thanks for telling everyone how super cool and super awesome I am. 🥰I learned reverso tethers when wasting time trying to get big chunks in the furnace. I've since decided that the end husk isn't worth the time. I can just go spawn another ship and make $$$ at 10+ times the rate. Anything into the furnace seems a waste of time imo. Thanks in particular for showing the cockpit detach.

@GophTheGreat 2 жыл бұрын
This video was recorded months ago and the barge worked differently back then. The current barge is a volume and anything inside of it is counted. The previous barge was a grid of open slots, and each slot could only accept a single item. Salvage had to be separated and carefully maneuvered into open barge slots to ensure that they counted.

I haven't refined my run this much yet but you have proven to me that a lot of my ideas for how to speed stuff up is not only possible but also better. I am afraid to use the slicer cutter the way you do as it tends to result in a lot of collateral damage. I don't know if they updated this to encourage using the precision laser more or if I'm just not using it right.

This was recorded on a very early version of the game where the barge was a simple 2D grid and each grid square could only accept exactly one bargeable item. If I had tried to send the airlock and panel down together, it's possible that only one of those will have properly counted.

@GophTheGreat

This was before the barge rework where the barge was made up of a grid of slots that could each only accept one item. The airlock consoles were removed and barged separately to ensure that they were accepted into a slot.

Question: Would it pay off to just barge the whole cockpit?
@GophTheGreat
@GophTheGreat 2 жыл бұрын
This was recorded in an old version of the game where the barge was a grid and every grid intersection accepted exactly one item. Dunking whole sections of hull did not work; the barge would accept and "lock" one item and the rest would just kinda be stuck in space.
@joehawes7959

New to the game here. Is there a reason you took the panels out of the airlock before sending both to the airlock (12:50)? I would think you'd just send the airlock with the panel still in it right? Or does the panel not count unless you remove it from the airlock?
@GophTheGreat
