What made Darkseid so evil is that he killed Dan Turpin by vaporizing him with his Omega Beams, and he also brainwashed Superman to ruin his reputation, which led Prof. Hamilton to the dark side (no pun intended).

The Timmverse or (DCAU) along with the 90s Marvel cartoons made me a comic fan... Then gems like Xmen Evolution, Teen Titans then later on Spectacular Spiderman, Young Justice and Avengers EMH made me stay a fan until the MCU made everyone a fan lol

There was a weird legality behind the Jax Ur character in the animated series. For all intents and purposes, he is General Zod. In the initial scripts the writers prepared, he was referred to as 'Zod'. However, there was an unresolved legal dispute DC was still locked in from 10 years earlier with John Byrne. Byrne was given almost complete legal authority to retcon Superman's fictional universe in 1986 following *Crisis on Infinite Earths.* One of the few missteps Byrne made, in my opinion, during his retrovision of the character concerned General Zod and Supergirl. Byrne wanted to make Superman the 100% "last son of Krypton". No Kryptonians trapped in Brainiac's bottled cities; no populations of powerful criminals trapped in the Phantom Zone; no female cousins on Earths in alternate universes. Superman was it; the only survivor. The. Last. Son. Of. Krypton. Long story short, early into Byrne's retconning of Superman, he meets General Zod, who is full-on mad tyrant at this point just sterilizing entire planets with his Kryptonian superpowers. Superman has to make the toughest choice of his new career as a superhero by killing Zod. He does it. He kills Zod (it's where Man of Steel got the idea from). The purpose was to simultaneously make Superman the last surviving Kryptonian in existence, and to teach him the extreme consequences of killing in order so that he would be against killing his opponents for the rest of his life. It also "excused" his actions in a way because, as the last survivor of his planet, he had the obligation and jurisdiction, by Kryptonian law, to punish Zod any way he chose fit. He had the right to kill Zod if he needed to. And he did. He killed General Zod. It shaped him for the rest of his life by teaching him the consideration that must always be given over deciding life and death. The problem for Superman the Animated Series is that General Zod was still dead in the DC Comics universe. He couldn't be used with both the character itself still dead and removed from the comic universe, and John Byrne's contract dispute still tied up in the courts. Sure, DC could've just told the animators to use the name "General Zod" for the Jax Ur character, but that would've been an automatic breach of contract and it would've forced DC to pay out the nose to John Byrne during a time their back-n-forth had gotten really nasty, and giving Byrne anything other than a black eye publicly was out of the question at the time. Again, it had gotten really, really nasty, and unnecessarily petty between both camps. It would be another 11 years or so before DC fully reintroduced General Zod back to the Superman mythos. They attempted using pale imitations on and off in the intervening years, but it wouldn't be until 2006-07 that the true General Zod returned, and written by Richard Donner no less- the director of the first two Superman movies starring Christopher Reeve!

This was my favorite Superman cartoon series. Parasite and Metallo are my favorite villains.

Darkseid is the ultimate paragon of evil in Superman TAS. Like, the guy just do stuff, gain something and mess with people just because he feels like it. He'll orchestrate a massive scheme just to obtain what he wants. And even if the scheme fails, he'll still have a guarantee or a backup plan. Because he's Darkseid. The people he rules over are so foreign to the concept of freedom that they don't even think about seeking it by overthrowing him, even if their existence and living conditions are the worst. After all, if "obedience" and "submission" are the only terms they heard in their lives, why would they even think about seeking something else.? Darkseid make them believe that their lives are worthless to the point they actually believe it. His minions are as worse as he is to a lesser extend. Granny Goodness and Desaad are sadistic and psychotic torturers who constantly create new ways of killing and causing pain to people while taking enjoyment in their work. Virman Vundabar is the classsic power hungry military commander who would slaughter millions of people for fun while sacrificing his own soldiers at the same time. Kalibak is a violent and brutish being who would destroy everything, sacrifice anything and anyone just to have his father approval. The Female Furies are ruthless warriors who will do anything for Granny and Darkseid but also for themselves (it was implied in "Legacy" that they had sexual intercourse with Superman when he was brainwashed. Since he was not in his right state of mind at that time, it's implied that they actually raped him.) The Apokolips villains were actually the ones I enjoyed the most, even if I hate what they did.

I was always fascinated by how Batman is considered "the genius" of Justice League, yet Superman's enemies are known for their hyper intellect: Lex Luthor, Braniac, Darkseid, and Zod weren't idiots.

Kalibak was High Father's son by birth and not related at all to Orion. Kalibak and Orion was traded by their respective fathers as a trusted offering. Orion was Darkseid's son by birth as related in the DCU. I think it was JLU or JL.

Always felt this was so unfairly overlooked to other DC animated series, and even had a few laughs with Mr. Mxyzptlk, and loved the one with Lobo how ominous that Dodo looked when it walked out of the habitat and Supes sorted out the aliens so easily, and of course kept the collection together until Batman Beyond, where it turned out Starro was on him

Superman TAS was my childhood,absolutely loved it.Amazing intro,great characters,great animation art style etc etc truly a gem indeed.The man of steel's rogues gallery is so underrated whereas in fact they are very impressive the likes of Luthor,Brainiac,Toy Man,Parasite,Metallo,Zod and his companions,Lobo,Darkseid,Mongul,Doomsday,Mister Mxyzptlk and Bizarro not to mention common criminals and crooks so yeah,he's definitely among the heroes with the best rogues gallery out there on par with Bats and Spidey.Great video anyways.

I wish they had a animated MCU/DCU that followed timelines and stories the movies don’t but that still follow a story from start to the end.
