Comparison video moving a 950 pound Tulip Poplar log with my Toyota Echo and homemade log arch vs. Toyota Tundra and front end loader. Find out which is faster. Thank you to all comments, likes, subscribers. I really appreciate it. - Will

I've been looking at a lot of log arch builds and yours is my favorite so far. 12ft would be the biggest log I would attempt, so this looks perfect to me. Good job, and great video.

This looks amazing. Great job. I also love the bed you made for the Tundra (I have the same truck, but stock). Maybe one day…! Awesome video 👌

Thank you! I did fabricate the flatbed. I loved that truck but have since upgraded to a 3/4 ton for towing needs.

@@willbillys8876 you did a great job on the flatbed; looks sweet! My Tundra has towed it’s fair share also; I have an old one-ton that replaced it for towing as well. I’ve always wanted to modify the bed into something custom; flat but with storage or something. Thanks for the inspiration.

That loader and truck makes all the difference. For a man in your line of work that tractor probably worth its weight in gold.

Yes it does. I did a lot of research, waited for the right deal to come along and found a good dealer. I financed it for 84 mounts zero interest and the payment is just $207 a month. I love it!

But the other thing to factor and this won't matter if your just moving logs around your property but I'm certain the Log Arch isn't street legal to be towing logs on the roads in most states if any. So if you lost a log while someone was behind you. Aside from that I do like the log arch better. I'm building a trailer w/ log arch on the back end so i can load up a whole mess of logs.

Looks like tha trailer works out great. Do you have any intention of giving away or selling the plans, possibly through a link or email? This might be something that be convenient. Or, even better, make and sell them yourself. Good job.

Thank you Rob. I don't have any plans to build more. The arch is made with 2x2 inch, 1/4 diameter metal tubing and the knee bracing is 2x2" 1/4" angle metal. The tubing that runs horizontally from the arch to the vertical hitch support is also 2x2x1/4 tubing. I wanted to be able to haul 12 foot logs, so the length from the vertical hitch bracing to the arch is approximately 6 feet. I can make another video showing the arch in better detail if you'd like. I had an old trailer axle that I welded the arch to, and then I cut away the center of the axle once the arch was properly squared with the hitch. I had some small pieces of 1/4 metal I used for more bracing where the arch meets the axle. A friend donated the old jeep wheels and tires which was a huge help. I used a boat crank winch for the log hoist and a single pulley. The chains I put in place to hold the log up and take stress off the winch cable simply drop into some notches I cut into some 3x1/4" flat metal I had. I've had a 1400 pound red oak in it before and it still felt solid as a rock.

@@willbillys8876 I could probably get enough information from the video plus your description. But how were you able to eliminate the axle through the middle? How do you have the remainder of the two short pieces stabilized? I'll have to watch the video again and maybe I'll see it better if I'm looking for it specifically. Thanks for the info.

I have the remainder of the axles stabilized. I left about 6" of each side of the axle, and notched the 2x2 tubing to fit around the axle tube for more contact area. I then took some 1/4" thick triangles I had leftover from cutting miters and welded those into place to act as extra support. I did four on each side of the axle. I looked at several other designs and determined this to be plenty strong. If I needed more support, I would run a piece of flat metal down the inside of the arch opening, down to the cut off end of the axle tube, continuing over the open axle end and then welding it all together. This would also serve as a kind of "skid plate" for the open axle end. A few times I've had a log get caught up on the axle end when I'm backing over it, so this would help that issue. It's super stout, I doubt I'll ever have any strength issues with it!
