1) So true. I only go to a salon to do my nails once a month, I can do my hair and pedicure perfectly on my own.

I saved money by taking my bike to work instead of using the tube (whenever the weather permitted). A monthly travel card was costing me £150 and I saved £80 a month by cycling. My route was also along the river so it wasn’t really dangerous. It took me 45min-1hr depending on how fast I went. Also kept the weight off and felt euphoric upon arriving to work.

I love that! I think cycling is a great idea - you probably get your daily exercise there too so it’s a massive benefit!

I definitely think there's a balancing act, I wouldn't cancel subscriptions for services I enjoy or stop buying new devices for quality reasons. I think money can be saved here and there but it should never make your current life worse to be able to save for your future life.

Yes agree! Hence why I still buy a gym membership as I enjoy it and will still go, however a lot of people buy subscriptions and then don't actually use the product after a month!

Meal prepping is the best way to stop getting takeaways! I literally hated the idea of cooking everyday for the rest of my life... 😂 Cooking for a couple hours one day and then just heating up food for the rest of the week literally saves so much time and money.

What about buying expensive, high quality stuff that lasts a long time? For example my power rack and weights to workout at home in the garage. Cost £1700 but will beat a £30 gym membership over time.

The subscription thing is getting out of hand these days. Literally every company is trying to milk this subscription model type business and if you don’t pay close attention to your finances, these subscriptions will literally steal all your money lol.

1. Drinks at restaurants can indeed make u fork out up to as much as you paid for the food itself. So that's what we do with my family, ordering water only. And by the way, I got rid of this bad habit of washing down food with my drink, it's not good for digestion. 2. We only subscribe for Netflix for as long as we want to watch smth. There are busy times when we do not switch our TV on at all. 3. I still buy minced meat and chicken, can't bear mincing it on my own 🙈 However, I found that buying a chunk of cheese has more sense than buying a pack of shredded one. In case with shredded cheese - you open it, then you might not need it for days and then voila, there's mould on it, so you just throw it away. Whereas with the chunk of cheese you can store it longer (in the fridge of freezer) and shred only when you need it. 4. Coffee from shops. My husband is a coffee maniac, but now we only buy it from shops 2-3 times a month as a treat to ourselves. Yess, it's a luxury you should avoid if you want to save. 5. I agree about paying for the gym as you go if it's not a routine. 6. I stopped buying fancy foods and realized I can save about 10% of our food budget. 7. I still struggle with impulse purchases and buying on sale, as well as unplanned trips to supermarkets 😅 8. You really don't want ad emails coming from clothes shops. It's too tempting to buy smth you hadn't planned on sale. Thank you for this, truly efficient advices.

Emotional spending is another saving killer because when you start to become impulsive all it takes is one good deal for you to spend a lot! I will always ask myself do I really need it? Also I have a potential payment section in my spreadsheet for items/services I may need in the near future with my sinking funds. So that it forces me to go back to my budget and prevent me from spending recklessly.
