You can walk into any high end watch boutique and just buy a Patek. The only ones that require an application are the rare complications that cost around $1M.

What I like about Patek is that the reason of it being expensive is about the craftsmanship, complexity and detail not just because it contains a lot of expensive precious stones. The essence of watch-making is being valued.

Wow, it takes 9 months to 2 years to hand make every watch. I want to work there. 1. Come to work. 2. Check log to see what screw is being put in today. 3. Long morning coffee with biscuits. 4. Patek Philippe has been my most favorite watchmaker of all time. Every model is a true masterpiece from a great artisan. Wish I could afford one.

I can proudly say My father owned a Patek Phillip watch. But he sold them for good price. I’m talking about 25 years back. He was an antique watch collector and that how I have an immense love for a good watch. I was lucky enough to flick longines watch which is now 60yr old watch. As a Patek owner; I have a Patek that was made in 1947. It is more accurate than my Rolex DateJust made in 2001. The Patek matches to the second to the Atomic Clock within a week. (Rolex is off by 6-8 seconds in that period.)

Their are many fine watches that people can choose for whatever reason motavates them but I think some people miss the point when they compare a Rolex with a Patek. Patek Philippe is not only the most iconic brand but they have contributed so many iconic references & are responsible for so many firsts in horology that they really have no equal. Take the other 2 brands from the " " Holly Trinity ", AP & VC both nice but a case could be made for replacing both these brands with brands like Breguet, A Lange & Sohn or Jaeger Le Coultre. AP & VC have had ups & downs through out their history & even used movements not made in house, take AP for example their company is esentially built on one model, the Royal Oak, Patek has a very broad line to choose from to satisfy all tastes.. True their are these small independents like Richard Mille that are expensive & produce very few watches but they are no Patek. If you wanted to go the independent route I would sugest looking at FP Journe or maybe Ressence. Rolex is a great ultra rugged, classic tool watch & to compare it to any one of these other brands is completely missing the point its should be appreciated for what it is & you won't be sent to watch hell for liking more then one brand. This comment is directed to John Smith in good faith, A Patek Nautilus is a real head turner & any one that appreciates watches would be impressed if you were wearing one & it can't be mistaken for any other watch on the market, talk about iconic ! As has already been said here before, it only matters what you think, the people that appreciate fine time pieces will notice, who cares what the others think.

This is in need of an update. The $24m paid for a Patek in this video has been surpassed this year (2019) by another sold at auction for over $31m Queen Elizabeth the 2nd is missing from the list of owners and she has more than one. Her Majesty wore a Patek at her Coronation in 1953.

I visited a Patek Philippe dealer a number of times and did not know that they required an application. I was looking at watches that cost less than 100K and will find out when I decide to purchase a watch.

Not so much an application but a lot models do require to be put on a wait list, with the 2019 ones being up to 5 years and being a previous customer of the AD. I do remember that the Sky Moon Tourbillon required a application and interview by the Sterns to be put on a two year waiting list, same as the Ferrari Testarossa...

I have directed a 30 min documentary about the biggest collection of Patek Philippe watches and his owner who's name can't be revealed. The collection will be shown at the design Museum in London from 13 to 16 December 2021. I didn't know a lot about watches and I rarely wear them, but after having made the documentary and spoken with the watch experts and other people involved, they infected me with their unlimited passion for watches.

Sorry but you are incorrect, not all Patek"s are application pieces, only their most special watches fall into that catagory and almost entirerly from their grand complication line. Vacheron and Audemar are very fine watches but not what they once were. Their are many nice watch brands to please all tastes but the truth is Patek and Rolex are unique brands and should not be compaired. Patek being at the very top end of horalogy and Rolex being simple movements purpose built like a tank but really for the most part the only two watch brands that appreciate in value. If you have money to burn boy what moves you but Patek and Rolex needs no excuses.
