I felt what he said about Turkey when I went to Istanbul for a few days. I said Alhamdulillah that I am from Pakistan. In spite of everything bad about Pakistan, I am glad that Pakistanis hold Islam very close to their hearts, and practice it significantly more strictly than your average Turk. I pray to Allah that Turkey becomes more religious and forget the idea of secularism, assimilating to western customs, and trying to become like them

When he said he went to Turkey and didn't see the things he learnt about the religion being practiced I felt that as a revert. Its disappointing but I guess it's apart of the test. The reality is Islam is perfect but Muslims are not we have to hold on to the Deen and not look at others even if it means you're practicing all alone.

In the sight of Allah only righteousness would put one's station above the other. Yes seeking knowledge is obligatory in Islam especially religious knowledge. Being born into a Muslim majority environment or Muslim family doesn't make one knowledgeable or righteous through osmosis. I wouldn't make such a blanket statement as I grew up Muslim but pretty ignorant until late teens, calamities happened it got me learning and reading about Islam on my own volition and 15 years on I'm still learning. So yes knowledge is only power through practice. I would say the measure of taqwa is beneficial knowledge followed by worship and many born Muslims also have gone through the same process but reverts have my respect for the added challenges.

Allhamdulillah and Bless this brother. I had the same experience when I went to Turkey from Canada for a week. Didn't need an app for the adhan you can hear the call for prayers and it's amazing. Unfortunetely, it's sad to see when you hear adhan and there are no reactions or nothing changes while it's happening. Cafes and restaurants are always full of people drinking and smoking. People are nice but it's from a point of view from a tourist in a mid city. They've taken the western culture so strongly because they see so many people coming for surgeries and they copy the western fashion and etiquette. The traditions of culture and Islam is only left in their food it seems. Again, I was in the city only and didn't go out to the rural areas much.
