In anticipation of both some friends coming to join me for an afternoon, and then some special guests from overseas coming aboard a few days later, I edged just a few miles further north on this leg of my trip up the Grand Union canal, mooring my narrowboat at a point where both sets of visitors could easily find and get to me.

This is some amazing television programming you are brilliant very witty and very entertaining to watch. I think you are a true British treasure and if you’re not you really should be regarded as such in your country. You are doing so much for narrow boating.

Here in the US we don't have these wonderful canals but we do have some massive man-made reservoirs with thousands of miles of coves to explore :) if you ever get the chance I would recommend you take a look at Lake of the Ozarks, Lake Powell and Lake Havasu! they are stunningly beautiful with huge marinas full of mansion-sized houseboats that make my little 10x35 catamaran look like a rubber duck!

Some of the Herons fly off a few yards because they wait for the boat to scare unsuspecting fish down towards them where they are waiting. Then they have a chance to ambush the fish. I've witnessed it a few times. They are pretty cunning for water birds.

Had a similar concrete ledge problem on the Coventry, I've now got a couple of go cart tyres which I've filled with spray foam, they work well to keep the boat further out.

Very good series, it has opened my eyes to livening on a narrow boat, and motivated me into researching into it but the earlyst I can consider buying and licenseing etc would be into next year also it would be dependent on selling a property after the holidays. I may pop down to my local marina this week and have a chat.

Been watching your vlog for quite awhile now and really enjoy it. Here in the USA we cruised the Champlain canal in NY many times in our trawler on our way to Lake Champlin and always enjoyed going thru the locks. Twelve as i recall some many miles apart and a boat lift of twenty feet or more in places. Your voice is very pleasing to listen to along with the rhythm of the engine, carry-on.

Another nice video David, thanks for that, you have a really pleasant- and clear way of showing your journey's to all of us followers. There can, and will always be places where it's too easy to get your mooring spikes in the ground, and other places where it's almost impossible like in this video between 1:16 and 1:34 where the spike had to find a place in the concrete. If you want to stand the best chance for it to stay in, and not be ripped-out by a too fast passing boat, it would be a good idea to fix your mooring line as close to the ground as possible, instead of attaching it to the ring at the top, to reduce the force on the spike. Atb, Peter.

No one likes a soggy deck. Glad you were able to air it out in the sunshine. HOY! You're killing me. :-P
@niklar55

You may find that the reason your reception improved when you moved your aerial was because the steel edge of the roof helps to concentrate wireless transmissions, in a similar way that old fashioned TV aerials had a reflector. and a series of concentrators. I recently saw a widebeam canal boat, with a fully enclosed wheelhouse, which seemed far more ergonomic, and logical, than the usual archaic narrowboat open platform.😊 .

I also tried to check the maps on where are you. Maybe more review on the location could be added to your vids? I mean adding a clip of a map showing your progress... Looking forward to the next video! All the best from Prague, Czech Republic.

Thanks for this, I do quite a bit of walking around the two Arms and the Reservoirs and had wondered why I haven’t seen many boats moored where you moored, so now I know. I guess the canal bank is reinforced due to the reservoir water just above the canal. Disappointed to hear your comment about leaky locks as the pound above where you were moored has been drained in the last year for works. One of the best lock cottages is a little above where you moored and you could even give it a try, it does b&b. Can recommend the cafe at your first lock.
