The Mossberg 151M b was the first rifle I ever got to shoot as a boy in the 60’s. I recently inherited this rifle after my fathers passing. I’m trying to learn as much as I can and I found your video very informative on this rifle.

My father in law passed down his 151m to me and my wife so I'm here for the same reason

Same here..inherited when my dad passed in 2015. He carried it when we went back in the woods at our farm in East Texas and I carried my Winchester bolt-action .22 due to wild boars that ran back there. Again, like you, I learned a lot from this video about its history. Great memories!

Another neat Mossberg , I believe that the stocks are some of the best for production grade 22 rifles.the cheek piece and high grade walnut sets them apart.

I inherited one of these too 151M-B. Have to replace the feeding tube due to feeding issues. Just got a tube off Ebay. Looking forward to shooting it.

I just picked up one of these from a local gunshop at my home town for $200, and I swear it has never been used or fired. Everything is pristine with no damage, scratches, marks, wear, nothing. The only thing is at some point in the mid 90s somebody took off the iron sights and put on some junky scope that is spelled as "Mossberq" instead of "Mossberg"

It might be a mossberg vintage scope. At one time mossberg made scopes. I have one on one of my other rifle. It was made around 1939 or so. It works fine. It is only 4 power. If it is an old mossberg scope, it might be worth something. The "q" in mossberg maybe a stamping error. Good luck. The 151m are great shooters. Capt Hal

Your rifles are in great shape. I've seen some of your others videos and they are all good just collection. I served thirty years in the United States Army almost twenty in the Ranger Regiment.I retired in 2010 I didn't do much shooting for recreation while on active duty. Since we were always training or deployed. But I always purchased rifles when possible. So now I have a nice collection. I shoot for recreation now. I don't hunt anymore because of injuries sustained while in service and I don't like the blood sport anymore.But I shoot paper targets and clay pigeons a couple times a month. I like archery too recurve only. Thanks for your video's

I have 151 from my father. Mine has the tapped scope mount and the cut rail mount. It also has a metal butt plate. Any ideas on what version I have?

Cory You have ether 151m made between 1946 1947. It would have a S100 rear sight. If it is 151Ma which was produced between 1947 to 1948 and would have a S130 rear sight. After 1948, the 151Mb this gun had a plastic buttplate, which is the model I own. The model type should be stamped on the barrel. If it says only 151M, you have the earliest model.

Thank you for the info bug man , I've got the last model you showed , fun to shoot , I do how ever have a question ? Do you know where I can find the push and twist sling swivels , that's the only thing missing on the rifle . Thank you .

You can check with Halvin guns on the internet. They carry a lot of mossberg parts and are very knowledgeable about mossberg. Also check ebay. And there is the internet check mossberg vintage parts. Good luck. Capt Hal

@@capthal-rs9mq , Thank you , I went to the site and ordered everything I need , other than finding out about the magazine tube end , if it's the correct one , it loads 15 , and shoots 15 , I will research further , thanks again .

I have bought them on ebay or Amazon I can't remember. But they are available. Be sure that you get the right width. Check your swivels. I think they are 1 1/4 inches. But some swivels are 1 inch

I just came into possesion of a 151M. I know next to nothing of the gun. The previous owner seems to have removed all the sights and installed a very narrow scope. If you have any more info on how to tell the difderences, disassembly and assembly for cleaning it would be appreciated. The gun I got is very very good condition.

Really you have the bolt which needs cleaning. Of course the barrel. After removing the 2 screws that hold the barrel and trigger mechanism you can clean that area without disassembling the trigger mechanism. I have never disassemble that area . I clean it assembled. You see that there is only a few parts for the trigger. I do recommend running a oily cleaning patch down the magazine tube. Sometimes the less you do, the better off you are. With old guns, should you lose or break a part, it maybe hard to find a replacement part. Good luck with your new rifle. It is a find shooter.

Most of that model are Birchwood. Some more expensive models used walnut. You should have no problem refinancing

Just got one of these, ran about 15 rounds through it. I love this gun already. Works great, not impressed with the rear sight. Gotta get a better scope.

You don't have to go with a real expensive scope. The one I have on my 151 was around $25 on Amazon. Have fun.

I have one that has S51M. What is this. Can’t find anything on it. I need the bolt, firing pin and loop that goes on the end of the barrel.

Also. If you have an model with a " S " I believe it was made for the Spiegel catalog company out of Chicago. Check with Hevlin they know alot about the history of mossberg

I believe that it might work. I checked my to rifles to see. But you will need to do some minor changes in the stock. The lug screws look to line up. You will need to use the same trigger and magazine tube that came with the barrel. Good luck

I just had one passed down from a family member. It is a 151-B. Where can I mount a low power sight?

Yes. You should have no problem. You will need to get the scope rings that will fit on the v-grove on the top of the barrel.

Check with Havlin sales .com . They carry mossberg parts. They are very knowledgeable on Mossbergs. They wrote a book about the history of Mossberg company and the different models of guns they produce. You can find them on the internet, but call them and tell them what model gun you have and what part you are looking for.

You might find one for sale on eBay. Also try gunbroker.com sometimes people are selling parts for old guns on this site. You will just have to hunt around on the internet.

The "b" was given when a change was made in the model. I.e.

Change in the sights or other changes. The models normally would start with an "a" then "b" and maybe go to a "c" or possibly a "d". It was Mossbergs way of informing the buyer of some kind of change or addition to the model

Thanks, I watched other videos of yours and saw that you have the very same one I have. I am missing the front sight and the sling mounts but I have the rear peep and a b-4 Weaver scope. It belonged to my great grandfather who passed in 94' at age 92, my great grandmother and my father (who had it up until then) gave it to me when I turned 15 back in 96 it's the only gun I have that I'll never part with no matter what. Thanks for the videos I learned a lot from them.
