Welcome. This is the Mossberg Model 151k made in 1950 or 1951…..it’s only production years.
It’s only my second Mossberg, the other being my 1973 Model 500AB.
Stay tuned for the ending where I do some shooting. It took me by surprise and was very impressive.

Love these old 22’s. My first rifle was a Mossberg 402 that I got for Christmas 63 years ago, I foolishly sold it years ago, but 15 years ago I found another one in a pawn shop.

The first rifle/gun I ever fired was a Mossberg 151M-b. I used to go squirrel and rabbit hunting with it. That rifle is one of the most accurate rifles I’ve ever shot. Recently inherited it upon my fathers passing. It still runs flawlessly.

Based on this video, I'm not impressed with either the ruger or the marlin. But then 3 shot groups at 25 yards is pretty meaningless. My mossberg 151k routinely does .875 diameter, 5 shot groups at 50 yards, using cci ammo (and a scope). Like you, I think this model mossberg is one of the most accurate rifles ever made.

Typed model 151K on youtube after getting back from my parents just now. I’m based in South Africa and starting the process to get this rifle licensed to my name this week. Will probably take a year to get the license but I’m excited about this as it’s been handed from my grandpa to my dad and now to me.

There is another part that goes on the back sight. The hole is for the screw, it shows it on your schematic manual. Just picked up a beautiful 151k. Thanks For the video. Now following you.

Yes! That adjusting plate. I had subsequent Mossberg’s that did have this sight, you are correct. Funny thing is, sighting through that little screw hole works out really well as a sight picture and hits the target dead center. It stays!

First rifle i shot as a kid. The only problem we have with ours is, when you load more than 10 rounds in the tube it will jam up. I have stripped cleaned everything but still jams up
@MilsurpGarage
@MilsurpGarage 6 ай бұрын
How exactly does it “jam”? How it is behaving specifically can give clues as to what is really wrong. Does it do the same thing with all ammo types and brands? Is it jamming in the receiver during feeding or not feeding rounds out of the tube?

Way to break it down, well done. I love old classic 22 rifles and have more Mossbergs than anything. Once I bought my first mossberg 22, I got hooked and bought about a dozen more. Even bought a couple mossberg bolt action shotguns to match.

@@mikeofmanymikes2630 Really, I’m tripping over those things, they are all over the place lately. Yesterday I found a Mossberg No 83 in .410 in dirty but working condition. It was made from approximately 1936 to 1939. After a bit of haggling I got a $75 quote but decided to “sleep on it”. Butt plate seems like a plain steel replacement, I think the correct one is plastic with some writing or symbol on it. That’s holding me back.

Nice video. The wife of my old buddy Tom (RIP Thomas) shoots a single shot Mossberg 22lr with target peep sights. She can hang with the Winchester 52 and Remington 40x shooters no problem and usually shoots better groups at the range than guys with $1,000 Ruger 10-22 custom rigs. Those old Mossbergs just get the job done.

Maybe that higher round count was with .22 or .22 short instead .22lr (long Rifle) as the firearms could use all. The manufacturer's sale literature would give capacity off the smaller sized rounds but then give the power and ranger of the larger .22 caliber option. Marketers gonna pull marketing, no matter the century. Thank for showing the parts and similar part numbers from the Brownells Bible "Encyclopedia of Modern Firearms" book models for other similar models , that is very helpful for hunting for other years/models. Which is becoming lost community knowledge due to the years going by. Would think about adding those models and part names into the video descriptions to help others find the information, you have been luckily enough to have the reference book for.
@MilsurpGarage

@ablemagawitch
@ablemagawitch Жыл бұрын
@@MilsurpGarage I meant just for that model & related models being added into the lower video description, not the whole book or all the parts for the model and their numbers. That would be asking for a lot, and I hope the closed captions would help with youtube search. I wish youtube search would pick up information from comments, as I would type it all out, as service to myself and the community. Just maybe add small blurb this has information for parts of the following similar models from slight variations over years. Not key wording spamming but actual helping people find their way to this great resource video. Just enough text to help searches results trigger for the the Model 50, Model 51, Model 51M , Model 51M(a), Model 51M(b), Model 51M(c), 151K , 151M (easy copy & paste for you)To draw in someone's search so they can see the book's pages in the video , to help them start down that road. Most would guess the "A" through "C" might be related for variations in a few parts, but knowing the 50, 51 and 151 were sharing some of the same main parts would be helpful for people searching. Its a well made video is why I was asking. I like buying new books as they come out, I have several Brownells books but somehow missed this one. Thanks for the heads up , it's in the cart waiting for my next order. I'm constantly hunting used book stores for the older copies of these types of books from all of the companies. Much like my beloved Bannerman's reprinted catalog , you just don't get as good of reference source in more modern books/catalogs. When Numrich (Gun Parts Corp) reprinted their last/latest bible, I jumped on it, sadly it gives only small picture /schematic and numbers with part names but doesn't contain item numbers or cross referencing, nor ordering information. It was less informative than their previous Bible/catalogs, I've seen. The internet may be the master search tool but nothing beats a great reference book shelf.

@@ablemagawitch Glad you found that Brownells Encyclopedia book....its pretty old. FYI, there are different versions depending on the printing date so make sure you get one that covers your interests. @ablemagawitch
@ablemagawitch Жыл бұрын
@@MilsurpGarage I appreciate you listening and responding. You have my sympathy for being are up against KZfaq's dumb algorithm that can't be reasoned with, and unlike human can't admit they were wrong. They really went out of their way to hide any creator & user facing address. Thanks for heads up on the different years, I've seen Volume 1 but on Brownells website their own staff claims has never heard of volume 2. I wouldn't put much faith in that answer , probably a young ""social media expert"" , that doesn't know the companies history. As most of that history occurred before they were born... Maybe Brownells never followed though but based on some other books series they made, enough new models over the years created add on appendixes. Until those created an entire new next book's worth, for a second Volume. The question why print Volume 1 when you don't have volume 2? I have seen in my searches on this book, the Brownells original 1959 1st printing, then a 1960 2nd edition printing, which I guessed they misjudged demand and reprinted with minor corrections that you always only find after you publish... , 1966 , 1975 and I saw you have video on this one kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hqmbi86X0qqpnKs.html and it is the 16th edition, so maybe they were doing yearly versions?) and the latest 2015 printing dates. Obviously older is better and the "buy them all" for the slight tweaks is best option . My next order is having the newest version but of course want the older ones. Half the problem is some of the places that list them think they deserve $200+ and those prices are set by pricing programs that compare their rivals listing and raises it and then their price monitoring software see the prices raise, so raises their's and it repeats to absurd levels. I know be patient and shop and it will show for for a fair price. As I get older, I'm really missing that old table that used to be at gun shows with the 1 dealer that had 5-8 tables of nothing but old gun books at gun shows. I wish had known how valuable those would become to me later.

It definitely is not a repair. The usual procedure for buying these .22’s is checking it out on the rack, doing a bit of research in the car, then buying if it seems interesting and/or in it’s original condition. The real research begins once it’s inside the Milsurp Garage. The “repair” talk regarding the pin was with the gun store guy when it was still on the counter and I was exploring the “dealer” part of the “gun dealer” job title. Actually, it was brought up and pointed out by him.....in the name of transparency I suppose. Didn’t take much research back here at the Milsurp Garage to find out that they all had that pin. Regardless, the missing mag tube made this one a great deal......the mag tube purchase kind of evened the score. I’m happy, it’s a real nice shooter.

Feeding snap caps is always just a “simulation” of how it will feed during live fire.....especially blowback operated guns. Simulating the explosive blowback is not easy to do and some actions really rely on the violent blowback force to work properly.

Nice test but didn't convince me of anything. In my opinion, 3 shot groups at 25 yds are rather meaningless. 5 shots at 50 yds would be a much more meaningful test. Also it's hard to draw any conclusion from just one group sample. Just my opinion.
