Thank you Sayan! The sad thing is that these figures themselves are actually not expensive, but it's the shipping, the taxes, and everything extra that really kills. I sincerely hope that you will be able to get at least a few of the ones you want the most, because they are really good. I would say they were responsible for my renewed interest in many clades I had neglected before, and that's what a good model should do!

@@DinosDragons Yes. I absolutely agree. They are bringing out so many new animals that other wise are neglected in the main stream. The thing is their cost and added shipping. I bought the Wilson and Chuanzi and it cost me over 12000 INR. That's double my monthly expense , it's difficult to pursue such hobbies.

Someday i will buy 7 of these and make a whale herd.

A PNSO version of prehistoric crocodilian is highly desirable especially the Sarcosuchus or the Deinosuchus from the Cretaceous.

@@kaustavbhattacharyya2217 Hopefully PNSO will concentrate on other groups like crocodiles and crocodilomorphs after the marathon of sea creatures. Now that they have a established market presence, they should experiment and widen their animal choices

Thank you as always Michael! Yes it really is a pity about the seams. That seems to be the main thing holding people back from this and the Tylosaurus. It's quite a contrast to all the other things PNSO does beautifully, so I hope they can improve their processes. As you can see in the video, there are some parts that are more smoothly joined than others, so I believe it's possible. I too tend not to buy specimens that are too speculative and based on too few remains. But this animal still has good grounds for realistic speculation. I'm a bit surprised by the choice of Himalayasaurus next though. Still considering if I want to get it.

This is indeed an impressive animal from PNSO, and I'm already able to ignore the seams having had this on my desk a few days. Now, they really need to give us a plesiosauroid! 😂

That's one reason I want to do them, to help people appreciate what they have even more by sharing more of the animal behind, or else decide one way or another if they're on the fence 😁 I agree with you that my first guess for who would produce Livyatan would be CollectA! It used to be that with any new or unusual discovery, no matter how fragmentary, we could always count on CollectA to be Johnny-on-the-spot with it. Was very surprised when GR Toys were the first to do Spinosaurus with the new tail and not them. PNSO has a knack for doing animals that look real, and thankfully so, because these amazing animals are interesting in their own way without needing any additional features, bells and whistles. I love the thought and research they put behind coming up with each animal design, including the droopy lips in this case! I must say I'm surprised at their decision to do Himalaysaurus next though, fragmentary as it is. I may give that a miss. PS: I was not as much surprised by the spermaceti organ as the existence of the junk and their relationship! 🤣 It seems like the use of the latter in modern vernacular _has_ to be related to this!

@@DinosDragons Yeah, you're doing God's work with your reviews. You going out of your way to research all the animals featured in your reviews is highly appreciated. You won't believe how much I've learned from your videos. Keep it up! I agree. Livyatan has been known for a decade, yet CollectA hasn't tried their hand at it. Meanwhile, they reveal a Bajadasaurus the same year it's announced, and Saltriovenator and an updated Dilophosaurus a year after their respective descriptions/redescriptions. Though on the other hand, their Basilosaurus was a little iffy, what with it being shrink-wrapped so tightly you can count its ribs, and its teeth being visible from tip to socket, so it may be for the best. Agreed, PNSO has been hitting home-runs for the past year or so (much to my wallet's dismay), and on top of the stellar detailing and production standards, it is, as you said, their commitment to science and making these creatures look as natural as possible. Even when they make questionable design choices (the lack of lips on the Mamenchisaurus, for example) it's explained in detail why such a decision was made. Likewise. I'd have preferred Shastasaurus or Temnodontosaurus, since they're more complete and more overdue for a good figure. Not that that means I'm skipping the Himalayasaurus 😁 (my wallet weeps). 😆 You never know, I'd say it's worth looking into. It'd be interesting if such an obscure bit of biological terminology was actually the basis for the modern slang. And who knows, maybe in another 70 years, a word like blubber or blowhole may be used as a similarly foul bit of slang.

Thank you Rik! Well this is as good a one to start with any in my opinion, because as a marine mammal there's really nothing like it. The PNSO Basilosaurus is still a very good one if you don't already have it. Otherwise this is a close second. The seams are probably going to stay for a while as long as they make hollow figures, though I do hope they can improve. Certainly other models with seams have a smoother transition, so with its focus on quality I don't see why PNSO won't improve this. If you think the furore here is great when it comes to the seams, the Chinese forums are equally as vocal about it! So hopefully that will be a strong motivator for PNSO!

It was certainly one I was very excited about. It's one of those few mammals I have been really looking forward to, that I knew would not likely be done since it looks so much like a sperm whale to a casual viewer, I didn't see how any volume of sales could justify a company making the investment. It's still growing on me!

I forgot to mention that the junk contained more inferior oil, but I didn't make the association with that's why it was called that. Thanks for that info! 😁 Regarding the epoxy, some Chinese collectors are actually doing that, and showing their work off, but the challenge for me would be the actual painting over. I know nothing about that, though I daresay that given the simplicity of this colour scheme compared to the Tylosaurus, it should be an easier fix! Maybe you could give it a go! 😀

I wrote PNSO about that, and also if the seam line could be further back away from the head. They said it couldnt be helped as part of the process. I guess the only thing to hope for is improvement in the process itself. You can see that on the top left side, it is very well sealed as to almost be unnoticeable. I've also seen some Chinese netizens apply epoxy and then shaving to smooth it out. Which helps only if you then know how to paint, which I don't, sadly!

Thank you Carlos! The seams are really unfortunate, and ironically it's because everything else done by PNSO is so good: the sculpting, the detail, the paint apps in general... so imprefections like this stand out more obviously.

Yes I did suspect it would look too patchwork for some collectors. Really quite a pity, and I hope they can improve their processes in the future.

I would say it's lighter. Unfortunately my Basilosaurus is on loan, but I remember that that is definitely weightier than this one.

Thank you! Well they are indeed hollow, but I don't find them squishy. That being said, I don't try to squeeze or bend them just as a matter of care. I'm more concerned about applying pressure on the seams causing them to separate than anything else. Why tempt fate? 😉

Yes, the seams do seem to be a dealbreaker and the irony is probably because it is in stark contrast to everything else PNSO does that is just so right. I hope they can improve their processes soon. It's a pity if their offerings aren't taken up because of this one impediment.

Personally having had it a few days now, I'm able to ignore the seams. But then it depends on your level of perfectionism 😊 It truly is an impressive animal and I still can't believe someone finally made one!

Thank you Wietze! Unfortunately they are inevitable when it comes to hollow fingers, but the actual joint I am sure can be improved with improved processes. There are after all many models that originate from Chinese manufacturers that have it less obviously. That's one thing that PNSO must improve to continue to delight fans.

The seams are necessary for hollow figures, but I still believe their process can be improved. You will note that I point out some areas that look almost seamless... if that could be replicated through the entire joint it would be amazing!

Great! Because of the relatively simple paint apps on this, I dont think you'd lose much by waiting a bit if you wanted to, compared to something more complex, in which case you would want to get it earlier to secure the best paint apps possible.

Speaking for myself, now that I have had this for a while, I actually don't register the seams when I look at these amazing models. I do understand that those who have to pay a lot more to account for shipping and EU taxes for example, would be more exacting, but to me the seams aren't taking away from the fact these are wonderful reconstructions, some of them of obscure species most other companies wouldn't touch.

That is an idea. That way it wouldn't cut across the cheek. I wonder why they didn't do that. Another thought I forgot to mention in the video, is if there was going to be a seam anyway, perhaps an articulated jaw would be better to show us the detail. But then the added cost!

I'm sorry to hear that, because if you were looking forward to Livyatitan then you are one of the relatively few who have been waiting while companies churn out the same old same old. I like to believe PNSO will continue to improve. Given how much care they put into their models, it seems hard to believe they would be satisfied to leave obvious flaws in their presentation. As you can see I show parts that are much better done the rest, and if we get some uniformity going, they will be far less noticeable.

​@@DinosDragons Yes I like to believe that also. However they did improve and it looked like they had resolved all the issues when they produced the Mosasaurus. However they used a higher quality softer vinyl, which made it easier to conceal any seams and the figure as you know was cast as a solid piece. I can only surmise it came down to materials and profit margins that made them decide to revert to the harder and hollow plastic. No doubt I will end up getting the Livyatan at some point but unlike some of the other figures such as the Basilosaurus I'm not sure if I could rectify the seam lines given how smooth this figure is. I am enjoying collecting PSNO's marine reptiles although I have an interest in all prehistoric life but like you my main passion is Sauropods. Thank you for the time and trouble you take to produce and upload your reviews. It always makes my day when you upload a new review. They are a great source of information and it's nice to hear from other collectors who go beyond the age old argument since JP3 that is: 'who would win in a fight: T Rex or Spinosaurus'. Hehe

I don't know for sure. But it does have a bit of heft, more than the Tyloaurus, either due to more material within, or simply because its size alone means even a hollow model would be heavier. To give you an idea, the PNSO Tylosaurus weighs 150g (5.3oz) and this Livyatan is 285g (10oz).

Thanks William. Indeed I had a feeling the seams would be dealbreaker for many collectors. It's ironic that this 'defect' is actually magnified because of how superlative PNSO's work is, the contrast can be very jarring. Judging from the release images, I take it you'll be giving the Himalayasaurus a skip too?

Because even though not quite complete, enough of the skull remains to show it had laterally expanded premaxillae, which forms the front floor of the supracranial basin. This is a feature seen only in _Physeter_ (modern sperm whale) and holds the spermaceti organ.

Exactly. Especially if it's hollow I would have hoped saving on material and cost would afford a larger version. Still, it is of a good size in absolute terms.

Thank you very much for noticing! I've always been interested in languages, and try to honour them by pronouncing their derived words correctly. This one comes from the Hebrew, so I had to look up a couple of appropriate sources. That said, I think most people might say "Leviathan" because that's the how it's been translated in the English Bible I believe, and of course people associate leviathan with Moby Dick, probably the most famous whale to the general public. 😊

Your points are certainly well noted! I have puzzled over the seam lines now compared to figures past as well as other companies who also have toys made in China, and I can only conclude it has something to do with the particular plant or process they are using. What you are complaining about isn't just something collectors in the West are voicing out, but even on Chinese social media we are seeing many siimlar complaints too. Have you tried writing PNSO? I think one way to do that would be to write them on FB or IG. They may not have time to reply every body, but when s many people register the same concerns they have to take notice.

I don't know. I haven't read the accompanying booklet yet. Based on just the partial skull it's not enough to define sex. Based on the surface anatomy, I see only one long slit extending up from the anus, not two separate slits, so it might be female. However I don't see any mammary slits, and I doubt PNSO intended to be that exacting in this detail. Hopefully someone else will chip in here.

@@DinosDragons Ive read somewhere where pnso addressed the whale as a she. Many cetacean figures even by safari ltd, doesn't even feature mammallian slits and are thus gender neutral
