Hey, Jack! I love your videos as always, and I thought this video was very helpful. However, you mentioned that HDL is the “bad” cholesterol, and having a high HDL level is good. LDL, which is low density lipoprotein, is actually the cholesterol that blocks arteries. HDL lowers the bad cholesterol. Anyways, thanks for the great video!

The biggest warning I have, being five months on T, is that my dysphoria got a lot worse. I have a very large chest, and now that I'm looking male and sounding male I feel like there's extra expectations. If my chest isn't perfectly flat I feel like everyone notices. Pre-T people didn't expect me to look as masculine because I was clearly afab. Now that I can pass as male, I'm extra aware of the things that "aren't right".

Ellis P it depends on your body type and genetics. Some people end up with a round face. The face has many muscles and all of these enlarge on testosterone.

Does anybody know if the round face will get better if you don't continue taking T? I stopped it due to side effects, but I've been really noticing my face being fuller, and did not know this was a known effect of testosterone. I'm just wondering if mine will change back, continue to the "sharpening" phase, or stay like it is.

I just hit my 1 year on T last week! For me, sweating & acne are the 2 biggest on-going issues. They started up almost immediately & have lasted this long! I've learned to use stronger deodorant & use specifically acne soap/cleansing wipes every day. Pretty much all these problems are simply due to the wonderful thing to we call male puberty! :P I haven't gotten much facial hair aside from teenage fuzzies & my voice hasn't finished dropping yet, so everyone's timeline is different. My period only stops when I stay on the depo shot btw - I never miss a dose of T & my levels are good, but I only stop bleeding/cramps/pms with depo shots. Also I can vouch for Dollar Shave Club. I started using them about 6 months ago & both their razors & wanderer series are great. The shampoo smells super good & is my go-to for dysphoria bc it smells super masculine to me. Not sponsored lol, just wish more trans guys knew about them bc it's a cheap & easy way to manage that part of your hygiene.

1. I've started using a five day antiperspirant as well as my normal deodorant, it has been a sweaty summer. 2. Thank you for mentioning lumps, I found a lump but couldn't tell my doctor how long it had been there, and the entire experience was just way more scary because of it. It turned out to be nothing luckily, but I've started checking now despite dysphoria. 3. Apropos you talking about shoulders; that is a great t-shirt.

3:07 from what I’ve heard, unless you start T in your early teens, then there is a very small chance you COULD get taller but it’s extremely rare and it has to be done before you’re 20/21. Honestly, while I’d love to be taller (or at least have longer legs) getting taller would make me have to buy new clothes and I don’t want to do that lol

This was so helpful, and honestly answered a lot of the questions I have. I'm autistic and so I HATE not knowing what's coming and being able to prepare myself for it, so hearing that changes would come and go, or last a while, or do unexpected things to my emotions and/or perception of myself was really helpful. I also appreciated the bit about a person's sexuality "changing" because of T, because as a sex-repulsed aroace, if I suddenly found myself attracted to men or women I'd be REALLY alarmed and confused. It's good to know that if that happens, it might just be a dysphoria thing and is normal. Thanks!
@human78631
@human78631 3 жыл бұрын
I know it's just anecdotal but an ace friend of mine didn't have any changes in attraction or even libido when starting T, and I've heard another ace guy say the same :) Even if libido increases it will likely normalize in time. It's not uncommon in the early stage. Any radical shift in orientation seems to be very rare and I've never heard of anyone no longer being aroace. I was aro before and still am, though I did shift from bi to gay. It was weird to lose an attraction and I can see how it would be even more weird to gain one, especially for someone who doesn't deal well with unexpected changes.
@wordybirdycs

3:40 I think people are ever changing, but the sexuality changes with HRT I think is just something to do with transitioning being a journey where you find out more about yourself. I wonder what happened to you, why the pain ? Don't cry. Maybe you are the lucky one and you don't know it yet. Watch the video of Benjamin Boyce about The Hormone Health Crisis with the endocrinologist William Malone. Watch the video "Cinderella : stop blaming the victim" (The Take.) Adolescence and puberty is seldom a happy time. It is like a storm for a lot of teenagers, even more so when unresolved complexes, conflicts and traumas from childhood come back almost to the surface. You would not fight or rebel against a storm. You would not try to control the weather. The best thing to do is to find a shelter and wait. When there is a storm you forget that it has ever been sunny and it is difficult to imagine that it will be sunny again. Don't worry. The sky will clear out. Be patient. The storm won't last. I wish you the best.

Hey!! If you're trying to get your monthly to stop then some forms of birth control may be available for you to get so that you don't have a period anymore. I have an IUD, although it is definitely not for everyone, it works for me!

Oh hey Jack! Forgot to mention. You said something about arnica and how it helped with your top surgery. Arnica helps with healing a lot but if you want something for the surgery scars you may wanna look into Balsam oil etc :)

Really great video! Probably the best one I' ve seen about this topic. I just want to point out that while T certainly is not for everyone this doesn't mean that people with mental health issues shouln't go on T. I guess these two statements just came in the same sentence randomly.?

Definitely agree with you! I don't believe I said anything that would imply otherwise, but just in case anyone else interpreted it the same as you on their first listen here's what I said at the end, "You might feel happier, yes, and if you have anxiety and depression they might decrease. This is probably because of how you feel in your body and how people are treating you, not because of the drug itself - and it’s definitely not guaranteed. You might even feel more dysphoric in some areas, maybe socially, maybe about parts of your body that T isn’t changing. And like any change in life, you can’t expect it to be the cure-all for every problem and hardship you have. Hormone replacement therapy is an amazing thing for the right people, but it’s not right for everyone and it’s not a magic potion."

@@jackisnotabird You didn't:) I didn't think you ment it, I just thought the last sentence kinda sounded like it and could be misinterpreted by others so I wanted you to be aware of that but of course you can't analyze and rethink the way you phrase every single every sentence before posting a video:)

Thanks for your video. I'm 48yrs old, have had a full hysterectomy sans left ovary and went through menopause last year. I'm wanting to start T for a variety of reasons but just wondering if you know how it affects people (given everyone is different), but in general, in my set of circumstances?

My sister is afraid about me starting T. Because I have epilepsy and she said that it would affect it. Like maybe it does? I don't know. And she was explaining the side effects of T basically listing all the things that cis men could get, high cholesterol ect/etc. I'm over here worried about her opinion on what the doctor would say.

I truly enjoyed your video. Wish I had it a long time ago. Lol. It still gives me positive reinforcement and helps me relax hearing those tips and realities of T even though I already know about them. Because it is very disheartening to look on the mirror and not see any hair growing AT ALL after a year and a half. It really is. I still wonder if there is something not right going on with me. Not sure but Endo didn’t say there was last time I was there. He did seem concerned a bit that I’m not seeing any real changes but kept me on the same about of t. ( he was thinking of lowering my dose) but he must have found that I was within a middle transgender finally, not at 1,200 trough. That was high. Back to the point. It’s good to hear another trans guy talk about these things. Cheers

I was really scared about using needles (I have really bad needle phobia), so I researched other ways. I wanted the gel, and that's what my doctor and I aimed for. Unfortunately, my insurance wouldn't cover the gel (it would have cost me $910 every month WITH a discount card), so I went back to my doctor and, while I was there, she called my insurance to figure out what they would cover. Turns out, they cover Androderm (The patch) and all I had to pay was a $50 copay for a 2 month supply. I've been on T for almost 3 months now, and my doctor says I'm on track with how the changes should be going. The patches aren't as convenient as a shot ever 1 or 2 weeks. They itch and leave my skin raw, plus if you're like me and have a lot of hair even before T, you are supposed to shave where you put it. I mainly put my patch on my abdomen and arms, since the back and thighs just arnt good for me. I try and change it around 10 pm every night. Because it isn't a shot, I don't need to sterilize my skin, just make sure it isn't dirty or sweaty. I wipe my skin off with a wet wipe (unless I am showering, then I just wash normally) and I let my skin dry, then stick it on. Summer is hard because it can sweat off. You aren't supposed to tape it down, but I do sometimes and my doctor said that was okay, as long as I don't do it too much. The patch is about 3 inches across and there is about a 1-inch reservoir where the T is, and it just absorbs into your skin. After I take it off, my skin is raw and if I don't let my skin dry before I touch it, some skin like, peels off? its weird, so I try to let it dry so I don't hurt myself. If anyone has any questions about the Androderm, I can talk about it some. I don't see many trans people on it, so I like being a helpful resource! (My transition instagram is @matchakatkit)

This comes out the day after I've started trying to swap to the T patch from subcutaneous injections. I'd been doing fine with them for over 2 years, but I started having a harder time with them to the point (hur hur accidental pun) that it was impacting my doing them on time...so, not okay. It's probably gonna take some experimenting to figure out spots that will work well for me and my body with the patches, but the top of my thigh spot that I tested first seems - sadly - not ideal. Apparently, the skin and muscle vary too much in position over the course of the day and night for the patch to stay well-adhered. I'm also in the 'some patches in my face fuzz just don't want to fill in' boat, but it's got...time...to maybe get more lush or at least consistent.

My biggest fear of transitioning is the voice change. I’m a singer and I really like my voice but I also want to be on T eventually... I’m scared that my voice is gonna change in a bad way, and even with professional help I wouldn’t be able to like my voice anymore and screw up the work I’ve been making for years :(
