It went downhill. It became a convoluted retconned mess, full of plot holes. The first two seasons were great though. I remember being in school during season one, everyone in my class and all my friends were talking about it, everyone was speculating about what the island was and what was happening - it was like a cultural phenomenon. It was like my generations "who shot JR" - when season 2 rolled around the first episode was like an event - all my friends came to my house to watch it. Fast forward a few years to season 6 h NOBODY was watching it anymore, the decline in quality was steep, everyone fell off . . . it became a joke . . . a convoluted nonsensical mess I would argue it's the worst TV show of all time. Why? Because it ruined it's potential more than any other show I can remember. Most crap shows begin crap and end crap. Lost began amazing and descended in GARBAGE.

Certainly agree that there are inconsistencies in character motivation/knowledge. However, almost all of these listed on this site are not plot holes. Check out the comments as most of these are explained within the show. I held the same opinion as you that the show declines in quality as it progresses. But I recently rewatched it and discovered that Seasons 4 and 5 are actually remarkably well crafted. I would recommend checking them out again! When you're not watching trying to look for answers to the mythos, I think that the depth of the character relationships becomes quite prominent. Cheers.
