@@Theleathercraftacademy Hello, I have this exact stamping machine and also want to order a custom stamp. However, the stamp in your video had too large a thread for the machine. If I order a custom stamp, will mine also be too big for the machine,? I'd rather not use the adhesive tape.

I sent this machine back because I couldn't figure out how to use my stamp, I didn't want to spend more money for a new stamp...THERMAL TAPE!!!!! thank you thank you thank you 1000x thank you.. Now I have to reorder the machine. ...did I say thank you. 😊

This machine has a lot of variables to it. Depending on what kind of leather is being used such as veg-tanned leather or chrome tanned leather. Temperature will constantly need to be adjusted. Test stamping will be required on just about every project you do. I've had one (earlier model) for about 3 yrs now. Never used the thermal tape just custom stamps with a 5mm screw. With constant use it works very well once you learn the curve to it. Mine didn't come with a platform that had a graph on it, I had to make my own and I made an extended platform for bigger projects. With quality vegetable tanned leather low heat (80-100 deg) works well. For embossed stamping hi heat works good or wet leather (like he did in the video) I prefer dry stamping on higher heat so I don't have to wet my leather.

@@adrianaflores1101 I don't think it would be a good idea unless you are actually stamping "into" acrylic. But to actually use a stamp made of acrylic and attach it to the heat stamper is probably not a good idea...there are some KZfaq videos that show people using acrylic stamps...

Can you get deeper foil stamping if you pre stamp without foil and then do it again with foil?

@@glacialimpala Yes, you can pre stamp to make your embossment, then without moving the said material put your foil down and stamp again. You might have some bleed over around the edges, but you can gently scrape that off...

Can I laser cut silicone rubber stamp and use that for hot foil stamping (Silicone rubber is a laser safe material, and is a material that can get heated up from the press and often used in hot foil stamping, from my understanding). Because I am doing a lot of custom short-run items and looking for simple way to make my dies and merge it with hot foil stamping. Thank you!

Hey! I have a question - how would you get a crisp stamping on something like grained leather? I seem to get a lot of bleeding on the edges because of the texture. Any advice?

@@earthangel8875 Hi Angel, no I unfortunately did not. Only very few brands seem to have nailed the secret to really getting it crisp and they have so far been unwilling to share their secret. I imagine it's double-stamping by first embossing without foil and afterwards doing a second stamp with foil but even doing that isn't making it perfect. I assume the properties or design of the stamp attributes a great deal to how crisp it will get. Sort of the difference between using a good sharp screwdriver, vs a rounded off old one. The latter will most likely end up slipping on the screwhead.. Idk

@@nomansland120 Sorry for a late answer, it is a trial and error process, the pressing time will likely be very short, the stamp very hot and the pressure applied high to avoid something crisp on grainy leather.

This is the exact situation why it pays off to buy a really good quality machine, along with ease of use when you use it every day. Like the option to lift and rotate the plate towards you etc.

Hi, got the same machine. I stamped my logo with gold foil on a piece of leather. I can scratch the gold foil away from the leather with my nail, is that normal ? Isn't it supposed to be more durable than this ? Thanks.

There's different qualities of foil too! Cheap one is used for nail art etc not for everyday items that are worn down

Can this machine be used to cut leather using dies? Also, can it be used for embossing continuous patterns (like on a belt) from a larger stamp to fit the width of a belt?

I would not recommend it to use with cutting dies. You can use a arbor press like the one linked in the description of this video to do so.

Find an extremely thin bladed paint scraper and slide carefully between the back of the die and the hot block . MUST BE DONE at a minimum temp of 130 degrees Celcius . Be careful not to scratch the die surface . Clean off the hot block with turpentine

Quick release foil is best , but generally speaking the items must be total smooth and not rough or porous

@@jamescharles6442 so I got it working, basically, place thick card under and set the temp to below 100 like 95ish and each press hold down for 1 2 sec release 1 2 sec 2nd press and then lift and it comes out perfect :)

@@evan311ret Luckily I figured it out! I definitely share your pain though, it was extremely frustrating. I heated the machine to 150 degrees then gently used a crescent wrench to twist the stamp. It then popped right off. Make sure to not clamp the stamp too hard though, I slightly damaged my brass stamp unfortunately. Also, put a large piece of leather down on the stamping surface to catch the stamp when it falls. Tried this but my "catching leather" was too small and the stamp missed as it fell. I ended up slightly digging up part my makers mark because of this. Anyways, the key is heat! I hope this helps :)

@@evan311retGlad I could help! But oh geez I forgot to mention that. The tape was a huge pain to scrape off the stamp. I repeatedly used a hairdryer to warm the stamp, then start scraping, then re heat etc. I used a hairdryer instead of the machine to heat it because I didn't want it to get so hot I couldn't touch it.

@@brandonday7552 Just got mine off! I actually used a razor blade to gently scape the leftover off. Worked REALLY well, just took a little bit of time, maybe 5-10 minutes. I also used rubbing alcohol for the last little bit and it came off super easily. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!! Now to start the search for something easier to use for next time lol

Yes absolutely, you should ask for M5 screw thread type to attach it to the press otherwise you can also use the thermic adhesive provided with the machine

@@johnhoward1935 The foil doesn't hold on certain types of leather, sometime patent leather is one of them, you should as well test different settings with the machine, perhaps a little but more pressure and heat ? I thought you meant it got oxidized or lost its shine, if the foil is pealing of that's probably more a leather or a setting issue

@@johnhoward1935 You can try "Leather Sheen" it seals, protects, conditions and adds a shine to your leather. I use it after I gold stamp something and it it keeps it from fading or rubbing off. You can buy it at Tandy Leather. Do your stamping then spray on a coat let it dry for 10 minutes then buff it then do a 2nd coat and so the same...that should keep your foil stamping sealed...

The machine shouldn't be the cause, those are pretty basic machines and it is even possible to get nice results for hot foil stamping by hand alone with a wooden handle and a stamp heated above an alcohol lamp, therefore, look at different temperature and pressure presets, try other types of foil and see if this happens all types of leather.
