nicolas lotis not to sure what your question is exactly but I’ll try to answer what I know about reverse in these motors. There is two wires that is marked reverse if you jump them together it will put the motor in reverse... that being said it’s slow... on my kids electric go kart we took one of those old horn switches from the floor of an old pick up and connected it to the 2 wires so he just has to click down on it for reverse and it works fine... although it doesn’t give the motor fill power

Will this produce enough torque to run a small car like a Geo metro electric car conversion or do I need 48 and 60 volt motors?
@CJs_DIY
@CJs_DIY 4 жыл бұрын
Steven Correa I would say this motor is to small by itself to run a small car... that being said the purpose of showing that multiple motor/controllers can be ran off of one potentiometer is that you could potentially run as many motors as needed to run a small car.. how many is needed would be a better question... will one of these motors move a small car by itself yes it will 100% but it would have to be so low geared that it’s top end speed would be to slow for the road... a geo metro runs with a 50hp motor... if each one of these motors produces 5hp then you would need 10 of them to equal the hp of the original engine. 10 motors and controllers would cost you 2000$ ish and is still significantly cheaper than a single motor and controller of equal power... I have been talking with a machinist trying to figure out a reliable way to couple multiple motors together and feel this is a better long term solution for EV’s because you could produce the same motor for multiple vehicles significantly bringing down the cost of manufacturing.

@CJs_DIY
@CJs_DIY Жыл бұрын
Yea amps matter. More amps the better in my opinion. I view volts like pressure on a hose and amps like the size of pipe it’s flowing through. If you had a 1/4 inch hose that was connected to a house shower set to 40 psi then you would have the right pressure but not enough volume. You would turn on the water and it would start fast then die out because it can’t get the volume. This is similar to having proper voltage but low amperage.

@CJs_DIY
@CJs_DIY Жыл бұрын
The only solution I have would be to mount it the opposite way which probably isn’t possible on a bike. For whatever reason reverse is set to low speed on these things. Did you change the sensor cables when you changed the 3 power cables? If not I would try that. If you just change the three power wires going into the motor the sensor cables won’t be coordinating motor position properly. ??? Let me know if you figure this one out. I will possibly put a controller on a bench and see if I can get it to work.

there are two windings in this motor. a larger winding and a smaller winding. This is what gives the motor the three speeds. full speed runs electricity through both windings.medium speed runs power through the larger of the two windings and low speed runs power through the smaller winding. for whatever reason the motor controller's reverse does not run through both windings making it have significantly less torque and speed. this could possibly be fixed by someone with more knowledge than myself but I have not yet figured out how to solve this problem with changing wirings etc.
