Great play on words! As a 67 year old woman … LORDY, how well I remember! Even in the 60’s and 70’s so much of this was still considered taboo/hush-hush! So glad things have changed for the positive in that regard! I am a woman who always asks … why are pads and tampons not provided FREE in every public restrooms - just like toilet paper? Could it be because it’s “women’s’ needs”? Of course! It’s just ridiculous! I guarantee, if men had periods, public restrooms would be well stocked with free tampons and pads … no questions asked. Thanks for the video! Kathleen

Kathleen, you are most assuredly a relation of mine because I always used to say that to my mom. Why aren't they FREE everywhere? Just walk in to a store and get what you need? I always suspected it was because men did not have periods. 🤣 I got my period in the summer of my 11th year in 1979. I endured many tortures and humiliations because of it for many years (as we all did). Although I was well prepared, the day it happened, my mother sarcastically said to me, congratulations, you'll be doing this for the next 40 years 😆. Needless to say, I bawled my eyes out! Turns out it was more like 42 years and now they've come and gone! ❤️😍✨

@@thedollcupboard yes! Yes! Yes! Even though we’ve come a long way, it’s still a man’s world overall, for sure! I started one day shy of my 13th birthday. I so wanted my period to start so I could be like “the other girls” - what was I thinking?! Hahaha! Then reality set in… for the next 40 years! I relish these great times of “no more” for sure! Bless my mom’s heart …she didn’t say a word to me! Which only added to the secret and feeling of shame for me! It gives me shivers of incredulousness when I reflect! Whew! Stay warm and enjoy and the weekend! Kathleen

I've always said they should be free. After all we didn't ask for this! Coincidentally I was saying to my husband last night, 38 years I've endured these. I was having one every 3 or 4 months until I started hrt. Now I've had two in a row. I'm considering stopping the hrt but do I want the hot flushes back? 🔥

I went off to Grammar School at age 11 in 1959. A few months later Aunt Flo put in her first appearance. We might as well have had neon lights over our heads during our 'monthlies' as we seemed to be excused everything.... swimming, showers after sports, etc. And yet in the new 'modern' way we were told that period pains were just in our heads. That they were a normal part of life for we girls and we shouldn't be complaining of pain, even though I was often doubled over. And the fear that a male pupil might discover our shameful secret was extreme. Disposing of those horrible pads was awful. The girls' facilities were equipped with a monstrous burning thing which emitted a dreadful smell of smoke and ash and terrified me. Not a wing in sight, and there was nothing to prevent the pads from soaking through in no time flat, so they needed frequent changes and the fear of leakage loomed large. Oh how things have changed..... thank goodness. Thanks for addressing this in miniature form. It almost made periods seem like fun!

Oh my gosh golly Miss M! 🤗 I've never heard of an incinerator for disposal! I think that although we have made progress in both products and attitudes, there is still much to be done. I used to lament that if men had periods, there would not only be free supplies but a paid week off from work every month. My experience was different than yours but traumatic in other ways. Thank goodness I was able to approach my dolls with nostalgia and a sense of humor. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your story. 😍✨

Cute & clever!!! When I got my period in 1969, I used a belt & pads just like those! I was so tiny and the pads were so bulky, I felt like I was wearing a diaper!! Now, 17 years after menopause, I'm totally spoiled and have forgotten what it's like to have a period! ❤

Hello Dot, oh boy did that bring back some memories 😱😳😬 me being just 11 years old, first term of highschool and having to go to the dragon that was the school nurse, because the unmentionable happened for the first time at school, and being given one of those belts and an inch thick pad about 8 inch long with loops at the ends, I think the brand was Dr White's, she had to tell me how to use it, because I had no idea 😢 my mum hadn't talked to me about things like that, and it wasn't taught in the school at that age. I did make sure my daughter was well prepared when she got to around the same age I was. I'm so glad they modernised women's products, those things were truly awful. My older married cousin used to keep her tampons in the fridge, my mum would never have allowed that though lol. I always used to call it "flag week" then as I got a lot older it was "shark week" thankfully I finished with all of that monthly drama well over a decade ago 😊 Best wishes from Yorkshire, England 🇬🇧 😊

Hi Diane! Loved reading your story. I was also 11 and had the "need" of using belts and long pads as the others weren't, well, sufficient for my needs. I can't imagine not knowing what was happening to me. Although my mother prepared me, she was less than sympathetic, as was the rest of the world at that time. 🤣. I never heard of tampons in the fridge 😂 Was there a hack there? or just a hiding place? 😂🥰✨

@@thedollcupboardmy mum wasn't sympathetic at all, thinking back she was more annoyed than anything 🤷🏼, she was going through the menopause at the time I think. I had gone to stay at my cousin's house for a week in the summer holidays, I was about 14 at the time, they were just there in the fridge door, I never asked her why, I was just so surprised to see them, and she didn't offer an explanation either, so your guess is as good as mine lol.

This is brilliant!! I was lucky not to get my period until I was almost 13, and it happened in the summer--not in school! Though I was on vacation with my family. Luckily mom was there to give information. My own daughter, in these more enlightened times, actually came to me with a friend of hers and asked to see all of the "equipment" long before "Mary Jane" visited them.

Ohh, this video was so much fun!!! I started with pads & the belts in the 60s, but changed to tampons after a year or two. My mother was of no help in that department (we didn’t speak of “those things” in my house) - so I brought a box of tampons in the bathroom & spent an hour (or more) with those paper instructions (remember the diagrams!) & finally figured it out!
@thedollcupboard

Hi Cathy! 🤗 All I can say is, I can completely relate to an hour in the bathroom trying to figure out tampons. My mom said she remembers me coming out white as a ghost. I think I almost fainted 😂😂😂. All of the girls in my elementary school just had the talk about how are bodies are going through changes and what to expect. I was sick the day after and stayed home from school. I was nine years old just playing with my Barbies and I started. My mom took me to the drugstore to get a huge box of pads and a belt. I was so upset I made my Barbies start their periods too lol. When I was in my very late 20s and early 30s, I would tell my now husband that I had to go visit Aunt Dot, and he would say “Doesn’t she visit you?” and I would be perplexed….apparently some people around here call their periods “Aunt Dot” because period is a Dot.
