I owned one of those 1n 1971. The jack handle doubled as a crank handle, there was a hole in the back, and a slot on the end of the crankshaft pulley where you could crank the engine manually if you had a dead battery.

I always wanted a Renault Dauphine. In 1968 I saw one for sale at a Car sales lot. Price £25.00. I paid £5 and was allowed to take it home promising to bring the rest of the money back the day after. I was 18 at the time. I drove it home, but I was a bit suspicious of how it drove. I got it home, and proudly showed it my dad. He took a look under the pedals under the drivers side, and noticed a lump of wood holding the brake, clutch and accelerator in place, the metal had rotted away. He told me to take it back. I sheepishly did so, and the lot owner gave me my five pounds back without a word. I never did get another, but at least I owned one for two hours!-I still think they look stunning!

My dad bought one of these in '62. I was 3 and still remember going to the dealer (in Orange County, CA) and especially the smell. Coming back from Riverside in the Santa Ana Canyon, the original Michilin tire blew out and we spun a few times, bouncing off a set of duels on a big belly dump truck. As far as my mom was concerned, that was the end of the "experiment" with small cars and good mileage. I had bounced off the doors in the back seat a few times too, so wasn't really sad to see it go. It was '64 and Jeep had it's first full production year for the Wagoneer and between that and a couple of Cadillacs, we never looked back even once at small cars. Lol!
