Welcoming and unloading a new project truck. A 1962 Ford C750 cabover truck. It's pretty awesome! In the video I preform a walk around, unload it from the trailer and try to get her fired up!

Haha... she's so knarley she's cool! It's been 2 years since you put this video out Andy but always remember to be careful pushing that cab forward to not have anything kinda heavy in the seat like a metal coffee thermos or a wrench or something like that cause it was real common for guys to bust the windshield by stuff sitting in the seat when they tilted the cab forward. 😯

Used to own really long 234 inch wheelbase '68' C950 in 1973 or 74 with 534 and Allison Transmatic 6 speed with retarder. Was x city truck with budd wheels(pain the ass to change a flat and always finding broken inside nut studs or cracked wheels), flat deck with 12 ton hiab crane. 44000 and 18,000 front axels, Hendrickson rubber triple block suspension. Guaranteed to knock your teeth out. She was brutal! Did pretty good with her as my 1st truck. Soon figured out to use her on short distance jobs with mostly crane or waiting work. The Super Duty would easily use 100 or more gallons of gas daily if on wrong job... PS she had stock Ford electronic ignition whey back then and dual arm full sweep windshield wipers! Made enough to pay her off in less than year and swapped crane over Freightliner coe with NTC 350. Fuel went from 100 gallons per day to 100 gallons once or twice a week! Those were super years for deck crane trucks. Always turning down work.

I don't know if you have seen any of the later videos, but old Margaret has been converted to a knuckle boom crane truck! She still has a long way to go, but I'm still really excited about her. Your old rig sounds like it opened the door to some lucrative business ventures! Not to mention she probably looked super nostalgic and cool to boot! I too am opting out of the traditional spring suspension for an air ride.... Hopefully when the project gets back on the work list. Thanks for watching and sharing! 👍😁

Many decades ago back in the bad ol days I was a truck mechanic. My co got a contract to maintain the truck fleet for a dairy. Their entire truck fleet was these old Ford cabovers. Simi tractors & straight trucks. The part I remember was the shift linkage. It went DOWN thru the floor FOREWARD towards the grille RIGHT across the grille to the RH frame rail BACK along that RH frame rail then INBOARD to the top of the trans. When these trucks got old with many miles, each of the 5 joints on the shift linkage would be unbelievably How the drivers found the gears was beyond me It was all I could do to find 1 gear to limp it to the maintenance shed where we worked. Replacing these joints was a PAIN. Otherwise, a great truck. !

Greetings from the Ohio Porters!🇺🇸 Dude, what a splendid truck. C750 Ford. They are so cool to drive! 🤩 I drove a 1965 C800 single axle tractor with a 391 5speed and 2 speed axle. It had saddle tanks and I put an electric fuel pump on it. Loved that truck! 🥰 I’m so glad you got this one! Is that a 391? RULE #1 - Never leave anything on the shelf behind the seat! It can and will crack something. The canister was the fuel filter with a metal filter in it…they seemed to rust if you got much water in there, but worked well otherwise! Clean that engine so you can see what it’s doing better. It was bad about the exhaust manifolds leaking but got to them eventually. I hated when the exhaust putty would crack out and cause the loud crackling sound! We replaced the cab coils and you could raise the cab with 2 fingers. The electric socket behind the grill cause intermittent problems in the beginning but we secured them and never had any further issues. I drove that truck for years…pulled many trailers, put a wrecker boom on it when we needed to pull trucks, busses, installed a trailer hitch on the back and pulled mobile home with it. It was quite versatile! 🤩 The body style allows you to put any kind of paint job on it…and it will look GOOD! 😎 The dash on those….OoooooWeeee! They look marvelous! 🥰 That is one truck that I wish my family had kept!!! That platform or shelf in the back was just used for speakers. We even put center caps over the Dayton wheels and it made it looks even better from the side view! It was just one little amazing truck. And it looked so good pulling a 1950s Dorsey or Great Dane trailer! 🥰 I didn’t put an extra step plate under the doors, but I wanted to several times. When you’re tired and have to climb up into that cab, an extra step surely helps! Gonna watch the next video soon. Meanwhile, Keep On Truckin! Oh, in my opinion, Cabovers Rule and others drool!!! 🥰 Ford made some great looking cabovers back in the day. Mack even used this cab style, but Ford used it for so many years…until the 1990sI think. 🧐

Hello Ohio Porters! Your old cabover sounds like an awesome rig. Do you have a video or some pictures available online? I would like to see what she looked like. My truck looked like it lived out it's previous life, of most recent, as a grain truck. I hope to shorten the frame and install a fifth wheel hitch to pull trailers. Essentially convert her into a tractor. The frame is in really bad shape and needs some major attention. I toyed with the idea of installing a air ride rear suspension and axle group from a newer damaged truck. The engine is a 332 Y block. Thanks for watching and cabover trucks are really freaking awesome! Cheers, 👍😁

They where the Best cab over looking FORD. And I believe the Longest Running same cab style that Ford did. A very successful Truck for Ford. Love how you film everything your doing to start her. My back story with them. I remember them in Fire Engine design. I think LA city Fire bought lots of them. We had pumpers, where I lived growing up, doing the Fire Explorer program I was part of, they also had one box on back RESCUE type. With a passenger door side full bench seat just behind cab. Walk in back. The Pumpers had just straight 5 speeds. My driving experience with the 750 was a contractor that had a lowboy trailer for his backhoe. It had 5 speed with a two speed ( Red) Nob shifter like yours. The only things that scared me, was the Dule rear wheels. If a rock got in middle it would have flung in right at my head, through the back of cab window. There was no Fendering around Dule wheels. The shifting pattern is on sun visor. I saw it on your tour of cab. The Post office I remember bought Tons of them in box backs. For taking mail from major shipping wearhouse to post offices. Always saw those guys all the time. I really wanted there job. Just to Drive those cab over FORDS. I think that tilt design was carried over to all new Fire Engines now with the tilt cab system. All Fire Engines NEW with cab over have Hydraulic lifts. Now I see the lower front clear white lights on front Most just had a chrome plate were Light goes Thank you so much for showing your great FORD C-750. I am so ENVIOUS. I bought a 71 SeaGrave. She has 871 Detroit with 5 speed Spicer tranny. I put stacks up out TOP. They went out on passage side at frame. My wife wanted them moved so the smoke/ Fumes Don't blow on kids in a parade. I was not sure about two stacks going up. But after hearing that screaming jimmy, with stack going up It is great. It's a Restoring Truck/ Engine for me. The PTO was taken out. So I just us a big portable pump and double male or Female to Hose connector's. It has a booster reel, so the pump plumbing is right next to each other inside. I can stand in the pump area under Engine. Lots of room. It's a work in progress Toy for me. I Loved the look of the older SeaGrave back then growing up. Seeing them in Fire magazine. I told myself just like you, I want one some day. You have a real great old longest Running Ford Truck design, that is a great find my Friend.

Sweet cab over! I love it, those Holley fuel filters in the bowl become a pain in the butt, most people pop them out because they don’t seal up right and cause leaks, I saw some gunk around that fuel port with led me to believe it was leaking prior to being put out of service. I remove them from any Holley I run and replace that junky copper filter with an inline filter with some steel lines instead of rubber

It's amazing that the old engine started! You might have been able to run it without the fuel pump, if using a boat style tank, and having it above the carb, much like the old Model T, with gravity flow into the carb. I am guessing the unloaded weight of this truck is between 10,500 and 12,000 pounds. I guess in the past 6 months you have changed all the fluids, and got it running, just in time to buy some $5 a gallon gas! Bad timing to bring back such a large displacement gas engine. Looks like a 534? The 3990 V8 had the distributor in the front, don't know about the 534. My 460 distributor was in the front. My suggestion is find a modern 460" V8, such as a EFI from a motorhome, they make about 250 HP and have a overdrive 4 speed transmission that will make this truck run pretty good. My 97 motorhome gets 7 MPG, and is about the same weight as your truck. My other suggestion is to remove the tag axle, unless you actually plan on hauling something that is really heavy. Taking it to a car show, or even to put on a flatbed to carry a 5,000 pound car, you will not need the third axle. My guess is the tag axle is around 2,000 pounds of scrap metal! And 4 less tires to buy. The tires that you have should be rated at around 5,000 - 6,000 pounds each, so 6 of them is plenty for most loads that you might want to carry. Of course you might want to go with a Cummins and 6 or 7 speed manual transmission from a modern truck.

Greetings from Canada! Love watching this revival videos you have been posting on this cabover. I must ask you a question on your trailer though. What model of trailer and weight capacity are you using? You mentioned it was too big. I am looking at a local ford cabover and I have the tractors and equipment all but a trailer! I figured I should see what others used to get an idea what I should be leasing or purchasing for a job like this along with moving my other equipment around such as old tractors. The dumping and lift feature looks like a godsend for picking this stuff up!

Hello! Yes, I think this cab over was a bit heavy for my tow rig. I only moved it a short distance and tracked at a slower pace than normal. I wouldn't pull this outfit cross country by any means. I wish I knew the actual weight of the truck. My guesstimate said it was 12-13k or less. Calculating all the weight ratings and limits of the truck / trailer combo I have roughly a 10k payload capacity on the trailer deck. If you look thru my videos you will see me push way past the limits by loading a loader tractor and a skid loader at the same time. If it fits it ships? I won't try that level of loading again, but it surely out weighted this old cabover. To do everything per spec legally I would need a larger tow vehicle with duals and a trailer with tandem duals. Thanks for watching! 👍😁 Reference Trailer Link: pjtrailers.com/trailers/t9-hd-deckover-tilt

She is old enough to not have spring set brakes. All of the brakes are only service actuated. After actuating them a few times now they are getting sticky. Thanks for watching! 👍😁

It's alive ! Andy when you change your fuel filter on the 843 do you have purge air out and if so do you purge at injectors?
@FlatThunder
@FlatThunder 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jay! So far I have only replaced the fuel filter once on the 843, but I did bled the air out at the injectors before starting the unit. I think it's a good idea. Thanks for watching 👍😁

Thanks! I plan to continue working on this old girl. The frame is in pretty sad shape. The current thought is to shortenen the chassis, convert it to a tractor, and have a small flatbed that clips on a hitch plate (when not towing a trailer). I'm sure my end vision will change and morph as it progresses. Thanks for watching! 👍😁

I'm still evaluating 🤔. The original thought before seeing it in person was to transplant the cab onto a newer chassis. Now nostalgic is sinking in and I'm wondering if she can be fixed? It could go either way at this point. Thanks for watching 👍😁

I love those old C models and about 6 months ago some guy was selling a C-8000 Diesel with a flatbed and it had an automatic transmission for $4000 dollars unfortunately I’m in a nursing home and couldn’t get out to see it but one of these days I’m going to get one. I subscribed to your channel. What state you in, I’m in Ohio.

Hi Donald! Thanks for subscribing I'm glad you like watching me tinker with this old Ford cabover. It's one of the many projects I have on my to do list. I hope to get her atleast moving and operating without starting in gear this year. If you look hard enough one will come to you! I have seen a few for sale lately. I too reside in the great state of Ohio. However I won't share a specific locale. Thanks for watching and keep on looking for that truck! 👍😁

I'm not totaly sure but l think the emblins on the doors are backwards. They just need to be reversed. I would get rid of that gas motor and put a Ford 7.3. Liter V8.

I'm not sure I never looked at the emblems very close. I think something is going on with the mirrors too. I'll have to investigate. Can't disagree, I think a diesel swap would be pretty awesome! However I am leaning towards a stock drive line, unless something major breaks, for nostalgia. Thanks for watching 👍😁
