Gotta love it! Not a show winner, not an economy champ, and not the king of burn-outs. Just an honest truck that will run forever if you show it a little love.

The family memories alone make this the perfect vehicle. I wouldn't change a single thing on it.

My father drove 65, with a 3 speed, and I was 13 years old in 70,and he would let me shift gears,my father is gone now,and you are right, those trucks have a smell and feel that are all thier own. Thanks so much for sharing the memories.

I have my dads 62 gmc 4x4, almost exact same story, lots of miles with the family, good and bad times, my dad named ours the blue moose. Great story made me tear up. ❤ sitting in my driveway now.

in a world of disposable, it is nice to see a series dedicated to the love of the machine. keep it for ever, if possible. I love old tech. what new vehicle today could you buy today that would be possible to hand down to your grandchildren...nothing. everything is made for maximum profit, minimal longevity. this has got to change.

60 years ago most people of an average income bought a new vehicle every 3 years and there weren't hardly any cars on the used market that were worth carrying your family or your business once they got 80 thousand miles. The buying and selling was balanced back then but these days the new-car market is a complete farce and yet for some reason people are buying new cars more now than ever seemingly, and perfectly good 10 20 30 year old cars are being left in the lurch despite being some of the most reliable and cost-effective transportation appliances, perfectly safe to operate on the road and with cheap readily available parts.

I love how the shooting is imperfect. Dude's hand handing out the window with the GoPro before realizing it and dropping it down out of sight, shaky front end rolling shot, dog cam with a curious kid. We don't need super smooth video showing us the latest features, horsepower and torque figures, or unbelievably efficient and clever brake cooling ducting . This isn't a 'movie'. It feels more like a nice day out with friends. Great job, guys.

I slept in one for a couple months in the 70's on the Big Island of Hawaii. The right rear brake line was leaking so I pinched it off and drove it with 3 wheels braking.

She sure is a beautiful truck, she looks so proud too still in the family. I drive a 63 nova wagon, love ever smell, sounds and lack of frills. We moved her recently from Hawaii to vermont, I'd love someday to have a gmc carryall ...a real gem!

I too grew up with this exact vehicle down to the color. I learned how to drive a standard with the three on a tree. I still remember the shift pattern: in, up reverse; in, down 1st; out, up 2nd and out, down 3rd. I have a lot of fond memories of my dad in that truck. I wish I still had it.

And I love that the doggies still go in the truck. I don't own dogs, but have always allowed four legged passengers in the nova. Then, and only then is a vehicle a family vehicle :)

Never seen a 4x4 with 3 speed. Mine is 4 speed with compound low. GMC were truly heavy duty vs Chevrolet back then, V6 only for GMC.

Better off driving it gently anyway...and having just a _little_ load on the engine will get it up to temp faster.

One of GMC's truck engines...known for being torquey, reliable, and VERY thirsty, even by '66 standards. Personally, I'd have switched to the optional 327 V8...but since this truck is a sentimental keeper, I'm pretty sure that wouldn't fly for the owner.

Nope, it was a V6 for the 5th generation ('60-'66) Suburban Carryall "A 305 cu in (5.0 L) GMC V6 engine was also available on GMC models. This 305 was actually from GMCs medium-duty truck line. It featured high torque, but was also notable for poor fuel economy." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Suburban
