This conversion is for the 60-65 Fords with the inline 200 six cylinder. See below for info 66+. This includes falcons, mustangs and likely more. Its for the small bell with the small 8.5” stepped style pressure plate and clutch. Stock z bar clutch linkage was used. Parts list included In beginning of video.
1966+ uses the larger 9” bell and clutch. For that conversion you’ll need the 66+ t5 adapter plate for the c60a-6394-c bell. You’ll need a 67 200 clutch as it has the bigger spline on the disc for the t5 input shaft. All else is the same as in this video. 67 200 throwout bearing etc
For this 60-65 conversion I used a Foxbody 2.3 4 cylinder transmission for this swap. I used it for the 3.97 first gear ratio. It also has a .79 5th, which i felt would be a little better for the underpowered 200 six. You can also use an 85-93 Foxbody v8 t5. It has a 3.35 first gear and a .68 5th. Great if you want to run more rear gear. As well you could always swap 5th gears between the 2 if you want to change that. Additionally, 94-98 v6 mustang t5s have the same v8 gear ratio And are great to use, but you’ll have to swap in the shorter Foxbody input shaft and bearing retainer first. 99-04 v6 t5s can be used too. Those also require the shorter input shaft and bearing retainer. However those had a digital speedo. You’ll have to swap a Foxbody tail onto those, And modify the main shaft slightly to accept the speedo retainer clip. There are videos on KZfaq how to do this.
One further note. The 200 six and sbf 5.0/5.8 (289/302/351) have the exact same outer diameter for the pilot bearing. So In other words, i used an 83 diesel ranger pilot bearing for my swap. That works with the small diameter 4 cylinder input shaft. If you use a v8 t5, then you would just use a Foxbody v8 pilot bearing. So for example an 89 5.0 mustang pilot bearing will work for a v8 t5 in a 200 six cylinder engine
Another point i wanted to address, if resurfacing your original stepped flywheel, be sure to take to a shop that really knows these old flywheels. It is critical to maintain a step height of .97 to 1” between the Flywheel surface and the step. To do that, they take material off the step too. Ensure this is followed or you will have issues!

@@v8only Thanks for the info specific to 66 as well. As soon as it warms up here (I don’t have a heated garage), I plan to get going on this. The 4 cylinder transmission seems like a perfect mate for it lengthwise and with gearing. I’m pretty sure it’ll be fine with the output of the 200ci in-line 6 too.

Just FYI, I am probably 80% complete on the same conversion for a 65 Mustang 200. When I went to measure the driveshaft clearance, I saw the same ~3/4" (0.80") clearance between the yoke and back of the transmission with it attached to the differential. But I noticed when I was trying to install it into the differential that I couldn't push the driveshaft all the way forward the full 3/4". I believe that the transmission tail shaft was bumping the inner back of the yoke (purchased from Modern Driveline) before it could be pushed all the way into the back of the transmission, so the yoke was still sticking out about 0.4" with it bottomed out. So my actual clearance was only about 0.4" before the yoke would bottom out on the tailshaft. I'm going to have to get my driveshaft shortened 3/4" to be safe. Just wanted to let everyone know to double check this out and prevent damage. Everything else with the alignment of the transmission and MDL crossmember has fit well so far and your video has been extremely useful J! Thank you so much.

I too noticed this upon installing the driveshaft. Indeed the output shaft was bottoming out on the yoke belt the yoke was flush with the tail. It was slightly difficult to get into the rear end, but when I did, i indeed had about 3/4” clearance past that point. Barely lol. Congrats on your conversion. You’ll love it!

I’m in so cal but not sure if i want to take on a side project. Guess it all depends on how much lol. Since you’re an auto you need even more stuff. The 96 v6 mustangs had the t5 which you can use if you swap in the shorter input shaft and bearing retainer from a Foxbody. HOWEVER, being that you said you pulled the bell and it exposed everything, that tells me you were given a t45. The v8 mustangs used a t45 from 96_99 or so. You don’t want to use that trans. You’ll need a Foxbody length t5. Read the description on this video. I updated it earlier today on which t5s you can use. Hmu if you have more t5 questions. Since you have the master engine, you aren’t stuck using the small bell and ancient step style flywheel that i did in this conversion. That all changed in 66. You can still use an adapter plate with your old bell, but call modern driveline. They’ll tell you which one

@@v8only Thanks man! I got the same M-PACT 07-030 clutch and the M-PACT 260138 pressure plate. Maybe this is just a side effect mostly of the car being in the air still. It actually only happens when the clutch is depressed AND the transmission is in gear, not when it's depressed and in neutral. I haven't test drove it since I need the driveshaft shortened as mentioned previously. It's actually more of a light squealing/rotational sound, so maybe it's just a matter of breaking in the clutch to increase the gap between it and the pressure plate (maybe the clutch is dragging ever so slightly). Or maybe it's a problem with the transmission I got. I think it was a shitty DIY rebuild so it's a bit questionable. The front bearing retainer was installed the wrong orientation and leaked all over the front and the tailshaft to case seal leaks.

@@WasabiMeal sounds to me like your clutch isn’t fully disengaging. With your foot on the clutch in neutral or first gear shouldn’t make a difference. @@v8only I finally figured out what the rattling/whirring noise was with the clutch pedal depressed. I drove the car around for maybe 50 miles or so and it seemed the sound was gradually decreasing. I pulled the transmission to fix a missing speedometer gear and a tailhousing leak. After doing so, I saw a ring was worn into the center of the clutch from the pressure plate fingers contacting the clutch when the clutch pedal is pressed. It must be that the clutch center or this pressure plate is a different geometry than OEM and is causing this. At any rate, I don't think it's a major issue because I think eventually the clutch face and/or pressure plate fingers will wear to provide a gap between them. Side note: I did use a new flywheel from Modern Driveline and confirmed the step is 1" so that shouldn't be the cause.

@@JPBUILDERS not going into ANY gear off is strange. Usually it’ll go into a couple. Pull boots off and make sure it isn’t getting hung up on the boots. It Also could have broken a key in a slider and be stuck in gear. Try pushing the car. Does it feel like it’s in gear?

Check the description of this video. I go over what you need. Basically 85-93 mustang v8 t5 or 94-98 v6 or 94/95 gt t5. But those you’ll need to swap the shorter input and bearing retainer into. No big deal

@@v8only so the 85 T5 did not pan out. I did however pick up a 91 WC T5. The only issue is that I have a 66. Just had the clutch replaced a few months ago it has the 8.5 clutch in it. BUt in your discription you say that it should have the 9. am I missing something?

@@Jesusfreakiamhe Many 66 blocks were designed to handle both bell housings. You either have one of those blocks, or someone swapped an early block in. Look where the bell bolts, you’ll see extra room on the back of the block with more mounting holes for the later bell. If you don’t, then you may have the earlier engine. However at this point you need to decide if it’s worth locating the bigger bell, or just re use what you already have
