This stunning one owner 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396/360HP “L34” 4-speed Coupe is the most special vehicle in MS CLASSIC CARS history. Yes, MS CLASSIC CARS purchased this Chevelle from the original owner’s on October 4th, 2021. Not only is this a documented one owner vehicle with 59,939 original miles but it’s loaded with original documentation, it retains its original VIN tag and trim tag, it retains all of its original sheet metal, it retains its extremely rare original color combination which is possibly one of one, it’s original engine, it’s original transmission and its original rear end. To put the icing on the cake it’s equipped with some desirable factory options and has been certified authentic by expert Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance on December 3rd, 2021. Jerry’s report, Certificate of Authenticity and photos with the Chevelle during the inspection process are included.
The original owner’s names are Robert and Karen Chvala, Jr. who lived in Omaha, Nebraska. Bob worked as a mechanic for Dewey Smith Chevrolet Company also located in Omaha, Nebraska. Bob was currently driving a 1960 Chevrolet convertible but he wanted a new Chevelle so he decided to trade his car in. He ordered this Chevelle exactly the way he desired which included the special order color combination of a Regal Red exterior and Ivory imitation leather with black trim interior. The exterior of this car is absolutely beautiful. The Chevelle World magazine titled it best, “Weapon of Mass Distraction”. The car literally stops you in your tracks with its striking color combination of Regal Red exterior, Black Vinyl top, Ivory interior and Red wheels and Redline tires. This Chevelle was the product of frame on restoration and not a frame off restoration. The body was never taken off the frame and the car was never completely disassembled. Some might refer to it as light restoration. The entire car retains all of its original sheet metal with exception of some patch work to the driver’s side rear quarter. The body is very straight throughout and the doors close extremely nice. The car was repainted in its original color of Regal Red which fits this car like a glove. The paint is beautiful and was recently detailed to a brilliant shine. The black vinyl top was replaced new and complements the shade of red perfectly. Everything on the exterior was restored or replaced. Bob stated the window trim, front bumper and rear bumper are original to the vehicle. It has a great stance on the original 14” wheels that are painted red with chrome hub caps.
The interior of this car is also absolutely beautiful. The interior color choice of Ivory imitation leather and black was a great decision. It truly sets off the exterior colors. During the restoration everything in the interior was restored or replaced. Everything in the interior is also in working order including the clock in the console. The odometer reads 59,939 miles which is original mileage. A set of correct rubber floor mats are included. MS CLASSIC CARS added a new set of black carpeted floor mats with the words SS 396 on them. Although most of this interior was restored or replaced it has a very authentic feel.
The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout with many correct parts. The car is powered by its original matching numbers “L34” 396/360HP V8 engine that runs excellent. It has a T0531EF assembly date, #961 block casting and cast E176. This engine has never been rebuilt as it has less than 60,000 original miles. Over the years it was serviced but never rebuilt. MS CLASSIC CARS did have the cylinder heads rebuilt. The intake manifold cast is #948, dated E246, the Holley carburetor is #3419, dated 653, the alternator is #1100693, dated 6B7and the coil is #204 B-R. The engine breathes through the correct exhaust manifolds and a new dual exhaust system that was replaced new by MS CLASSIC CARS. As quoted from Jerry MacNeish’s report, “engine bay is extremely detailed and original.” The engine is coupled to the original matching numbers Muncie M20 4-speed manual. It has a P0527 assembly date and #010 case. The transmission was also never rebuilt as it has less than 60,000 original miles. Over the years it was serviced but never rebuilt. The power is transferred to the original 12-bolt Positract rear end with 3.55 gears. The rear end has a KF0427B assembly date, #3875745N casting number and C216 casting date.
The undercarriage is nicely detailed throughout with many correct parts. As indicated on the original Bill of Sale the underneath was undercoated at the dealership when it was new.
