I had a friend in high school that bought one of these in 1997 for $1500 (I think, it's been awhile) because it's all he could afford and an old couple on his neighborhood was going to donate it otherwise. Man, that car was fun, and I wish prices were still like that. But it never will be again, so thanks for bringing back those memories of our stupidity and luck back in the day.

GM has had the knack of developing great ideas, and then killing them before their prime. and I believe you could get that ohc engine in a firebird.

Mr. Regular is only a couple years older than I am, but I would love to take a literary theory and application series of classes from him. Great teachers find ways to filter thoughts and concepts into a really transmutable personal connection

Keeping track of the Tempest, LeMans, and GTO as trim levels but then becoming their own models takes a master's degree!

My dad gave me his 1967 OHC6 LeMans in 1974 when I was 16. It was like new. I have so many great memories of that car!

fun fact when the barra was developed in Australia the engineers called it the 'gull' short for seagull because they knew it was going to shit on every other engine..

It's so weird to think that, for a brief moment, GM was developing a flat six and an overhead cam straight 6 at the same time, back in the 60's. It's like a German went back in time and altered the course of history, if only for a few brief years

I had a classmate in high school (mid-late 70's) that had a 69 firebird with this engine with a 4 speed. Also an Offenhauser intake with a 4 barrel. He was constant parking lot drag racer! It sounded so "different"

This has to be one of the nicest looking cars of the 60s. Such an iconic design that still looks good today.

Jay Leno is currently restoring an old Firebird with this engine. Check out his restoration blogs if you're interested. He basically repeats the same sentiment: it is a great engine that was ahead of it's time and had no chance of selling against V8s

I never knew about the Delorean 6 engine. John really liked to push the envelope which unfortunately rubbed the GM brass the wrong way in a lot of cases.

I love the front end styling of this Pontiac. Stacked headlamps look great, as do the grille pattern.

I wish Pontiac had improved their straight six, they could of easily cast a dohc head and block from aluminum and bought turbos from Oldsmobile's supplier, coupled to a factory close ratio 4 speed I think it would of done well. Another great video guys, keep it up.

Love the aesthetic of the front end...shark nose and the stacked, quad headlights.
