Awesome video's Kevin. The first Z/28 I saw was brand new the owner owned a lumber yard near my house and he used to park it near there. I was just a kid and had no idea what it was but It started my love for Camaros. Wayne

Fantastic car and I personally like the 67 model over many other years ( vent windows) prefer the big journal 302 of the later models!!! 2022

I'm a Mopar/Ford guy but if I was buying a brand new pony car in 1967 it would be a Z28 Camaro. The 302 is maybe my favorite small block Chevy engine ever made besides the 1970 LT1 350ci/360hp. Plus the chambered exhaust on these cars sounds mean as hell. I'd take this car over a 67 Shelby GT350 even though I typically favor Ford's over Chevy's. Such a nice car

Great colors but I'm kinda fond of blue and black Z28's because I have one. Use synthetic oil you won't see any smoke.

Maybe My favorite of all Camaros. It's between this, a 69 ZL1 COPO, and a 70 1/2 Z28. I'm a Mopar man but I love all classic muscle cars regardless of the manufacturer. Other than Dodge/Plymouth, Pontiac's were always my favorite, followed by Chevrolet and then Ford/Mercury

It absolutely was not common practice by SCCA race teams to run their race engines with low tension rings or leaving the second ring out to increase horsepower. That is a drag racing practice where builders would also use a vacuum pump to rid the engine of excessive blow by. This car probably has an engine that has all factory original internals meaning that the rings and pistons are probably original to the engine. Some look at these cars as real estate instead of cars that can be driven, and insist on the engines being 100% original. The smoke billowing from the engine of this car is white, therefore signifying more oil entering the cylinders then air/fuel mixture. An over rich air/fuel mixture would produce black smoke. Watch a vintage SCCA race and you'll see that the engines don't smoke at all. Furthermore, the mixture on a race engine is kept as lean as possible. The engine in this car was retrofitted with the cross ram. Cross ram intakes didn't come onto the scene until the 1969 season. In '69, the Traco built 302's with the cross ram intakes and "140" race cams made around 460 horsepower above 7500 rpm. As much as the engine in this car smokes, it probably fouled all eight plugs in the time it took to film this.

Yep, it's definitely a sweet original car, but she smokes worse than a busted chainsaw. Kevin stated in the video that the previous owner ADDED those Traco hi-perf parts, such as that cross ram aluminum intake, headers, guages, etc after the fact, and that he did keep all the original parts with the car, which the Brothers still have with it to this day. But he didn't state that those added hi-perf parts weren't available until '69. So obviously, the previous owner was either not the original owner, or if he was the original owner, he waited at least a couple years before adding those hi-perf parts. Regardless, she needs an engine refresh/rebuild. It would drive me nuts to drive any car that smokes like that, let alone such a sweet classic as this one. But I'll take it right now just as it is........smoking or not, lol.

I'm digging that chambered exhaust - another dealer installed option that could be had at the time. No muffler or resonator, but some dimpled chambers built into the pipes to quiet the engine. I expected it to be louder than what was heard on this video.

The cut out around the Camaro by Cherolet was actually a Z/28 only thing. I believe if was on all 67 and 68 Z/28's, if im not mistaken. So, that is original to the car! Keep up the great work! Love The Brother's collection!!

That‘s true but that‘s because the stripes in 67 were a Z/28 only thing. All other models had those stripes added somewhere else (at the dealer)

+Over9000Gingers From 70-73 they had 350s in them which were basically LT-1 engines from the Corvette. From 67 to 69 it was the mentioned 302.

Super-neat car, but isn’t that a bit too much carburetion for a little 302 cube engine? What size are those Holleys?
@livewire2759
@livewire2759 Жыл бұрын
Corvettes ran dual 4bbl carbs on their 265 in '56... yeah, they were fairly small 4-jets, and yes, the Holley's on these Camaros are fairly small as well, but they're also vacuum secondary carbs, so they only flow what they need to. With the giant cam revving to 7,000 rpm, those 302s actually move a lot of air.

Why would you shift at 2500?
@markg7030
@markg7030 10 жыл бұрын
You are right. Racers turn the tach so the red line points up. I think the red line on this is around 6000- 6500.
@howabouthetruth2157
@howabouthetruth2157 7 жыл бұрын
I noticed that too. The tach shown in this video is not situated properly for what he is describing. NO WAY did anyone "shift gears at 2500 rpm". These engines, with the right factory parts & set-up properly, would easily rev to well over 6,000 rpm, due to the short stroke, and that is also where they made their most power, well up in the rpm range. Several race teams were actually getting around 470 to 490 hp out of these little monsters.
@manher4335
@manher4335 2 жыл бұрын
I thought these would stumble and buckle below 4500rpm. You had to wake it up bc this Z was basically sleeping in low rpm if not in attack mode.

Something is not right with that air cleaner assembly. The filter is too tall and the carbs will get hot air defeating the cooler cowl air intake.

The best 1st gen would have been the 67 vented windows with the 69 Z/29\RS atlas wheels and a ZL1 under the hood. Still not as sexy as the GT500 or Boss 9's but it's right up there. Also I while they displaced 302ci I don't think the 67's are DZ 302's as the have they have small journals, my understanding is after 67 they used 350 bocks with a large journal 3" crank to make the DZ.
@kensalazar5066
@kensalazar5066 5 жыл бұрын
Ok it's the same block all 3 years, 67 had 2 bolt mains, small journal, 68 2 bolt mains large journal, both were "MO" suffix except 67s to be sold in Ca. With "air systems " were MP suffix. The 69 302 was the notorious "DZ" suffix, 69 only. They made way more Z28'S in 69, like 33,000 compared to 7,199 in 68. So everybody knows the DZ suffix. 4 bolt mains
