Nothing like a well built, tuned and driver drag car. Doesn't matter what make or motor, but I always liked the FE Fairlanes. This one is classic, glad to see it raced, and raced well.

My all time favorite car. I have wanted one of these since the moment I set my eyes on one at a car show. I like the 66 and 67 after that they got ugly. A 67 with a 427 side oiler would be unreal and I would trade my left nut for one of those.

FE motor from ford was one the most potent big blocks in the 60's and 70's,only motor to give my 440-6 pac hell, besides a 455 OLDS,390-427-428 would make you respect FORD'S offering, mean torque, very strong lower ends in those FE MOTORS

I had a chance to buy one of these, it was the 1974 NHRA champ here on the west coast. The guy wanted $10,000 with no motor, I wish I had bought that car. . . .It still had all the drag racing stickers and numbers on it.

My 1st car was a Red on Red 67' Fairlane GTA. The 390 HiPo was replaced at some time with a 428 SCJ. I traded that car for a 66 SS 396 Chevelle. My parents said I would regret it some day and they were right.

I have a couple Clevelands. At least there is very much Trans-Am dna in these 4V heads. We love our time machines, but wow prices approach nice home costs for many of these old warriors. Modern rides can have NASCAR power levels at twice the fuel "economy".

BCk in late 66 I was returning after 2 yesterday in Vietnam having saved 7p00 dollars. I wanted a new c a r. After driving various. Uncle cars I pretty well had decided on either a 427 4e5 hp Cirvette or a 427 R Code Fairlane . It was early September and no dealer had either car let alone a demo thst I could drive. I contacted a really nice military auto broker out of OKC who told me he'd special order either car equipped as I wanted it for about a thousand or so off sticker. I was going to go to college and whatever I got was going to be my daily driver for a few years. The Fairlane equipped pretty much the way I wanted it was a few hundred less than the Vette. Ne I ther car could be had with AC and the Fairlane couldn't be ordered with less than 3.89 gears. I finally settled on the Vette which I got for 4585 dollars with the tricarb engine M21 4 speed Transistorized ignition big brake package and side exhaust. I got power windows and the AM Fm radio. And a high speed 3.36 posi rear end with the supposed hyper red line tires on rally sport wheels. It was a good choice although I had to replace the entirely inadequate wheel and tires with wider American 5 spoke mags and Good year Blue Steak tires. That said the car would top out at 155 at redline and punch thru the quarter at 13.06 at 107mph. And it did eat plugs but oh well. And had a thirst for 103 octane Cgevron Cusom Supreme. Whic at the time was around 30.9 per gallon. I never ever saw a 66 or 67 427 Fairlane on the street and did not realize how rare they were.. About 15 years later I started getting interested in Ford engines when I bought a Pantera culminating when I built a very accurate t e Thunderbolt clone e and a 498 a ll alloy cammer motor for my open road race 1969 tube frame ASCAR Chassis Mustang. It dawned on me along the way that a 1967 R Code Fairlane would have been a great car but a bad daily driver. Which perhaps was why so few were sold. I recall the Ford dealers at the time were very reluctant to special order one. Currently one of my 2 daily drivers is a 64 Fzirlane 500 with a 5 speed Tremec and a 410 hp 331 Ford stroker based on a e02. It's a white coupe with a gold interior and a fair amount of suspension mods. Very pleasant car.

That's why I love ford. The early 2000s Crown vic police interceptors (to my understanding) have the same 5.0 V8 from the Mustang. I'd personally love to own a turbocharged Crown Vic as a daily driven weekend racer.

Some of those Crown Vic's had the 4.6L and when the police got through with them Yellow Cab starting using them for cab's and many of them went 400,000 miles plus. I used to call on Yellow Cab in Houston, they said that was the only motor that would do it.
