My 68 Cougar was my first car when I was 15. Life happened and now at 40 she’s back on the road after sitting 10 years. I love it way more now then I ever did. What a unique car

I had a Black on Black 67 Cougar with a straight body and an XR7 interior. It was a 302 bored 60ths over, 1/4 pack glass side pipes with a 411 posi rear end. Started with a B&M slapstick automatic then dropped a 3 speed stick from what I think was a 65 or 66 Mustang in it. Bought it when I was 16 in '84. I could cry for selling it after 5 years.

I own a 68 and I love it. Idk if it's the model style but it's still current when you drive it out, it sticks out due to its beauty but it still have the similar design as a new challengers. And the headlights is gorgeous

My '68 Cougar looks almost identical to yours except for the side markers. I've slung it around on dirt roads right after a rain storm and had the whole back half of the car covered in mud. That was probably the most fun I've had in the car. I beat on mine every time I take it out.

I’m going to have to disagree somewhat. Ain’t no way I’m going to kick up rocks into my daily driver like at 1:26 let alone my classic car. I cringed when I had to slowly drive my ‘71 over a gravel parking lot a few days ago and a few rocks stuck in the tread hit the wheel well when I took off.

Taking a classic car out & thrashing on it isn't the only way to get enjoyment out of owning one. I have a 1967 Cougar which sits in the garage most of the time because it's nearly all original with 46k miles on it. 289 with factory 3 speed on the floor. Factory original paint, interior, glass. The engine has never been pulled & rebuilt or anything major like that. No rust or rust bubbles under the paint. Of course I've had to replace a few typical wear components like the tires, brake shoes, fluids & filters. Also when the original owner ordered it back in 1967 he had the dealership install dual exhaust with glasspacks. I have the original invoice for it. Which I don't mind that at all since everyone likes the sound of a classic V8, myself included. I'm not rich & I'm in my 30s. I do drive it occasionally, but I get _far_ more enjoyment out of preserving it in its original condition than I would by thrashing on it. I want someone from a future generation to also be able to own it some day & appreciate its history. It's also a lot different when you had to work hard to be able to afford it yourself, with your own money. Whereas the guy in this video said his dad bought him that Cougar when he was 16 & they restored it together over a 2 year period. He didn't really have to do a lot of work to earn that car therefore he does not appreciate it as much someone who had to put in many long hours of overtime at their job to afford a classic car.

@@FinalFrontCars are a little like horses. They love to be exercised. A car that is regularly put through its paces will have fewer age-related issues than a car that isn’t. It will have more wear than an untouched car, but ultimately, these were meant to be driven. It’s one thing to leave a vehicle in disrepair, it’s another thing entirely to use it as it wants to be used and care for it accordingly. It’s an unforgettable experience. There are also many things that can be done to mitigate wear and damage from activities like what’s shown in the video. Mud flaps are one specific example.

I know im a little late, but my neighbor has a 67 cougar for $2000. It runs but is really old and the floor board is rusted in it. Is this an ok price and if so should I buy it? The leather seats are cracked as well.
@RacingRejects
@RacingRejects 5 жыл бұрын
If it runs and drives thats a great price. As for if you should buy it, that depends on your access to tools, desire to own an old car, etc. If you really want a project and have basic restoration skills, time, a place to put/work on the car, and a little cash to throw at it its a wonderful experience. Of course, we are always happy when an old car gets saved. Hope this helps, good luck!

The configuration i had for all the current vids was flat top pistons, ported stock heads, ported stock 4 barrel intake, 650cfm edelbrock, headers, and full exhaust. It had 10.5 to 1 compression and stock valve train so it made decent torque but pretty terrible horsepower. It was cheap and fun as you can tell, but now the car has a cam and intake

Great to see you have a 67 Cougar. I have one also. But I can guarantee that if you drive it like that, you won't have it very long. The law of averages says you're going to come unstuck and smash your car into a tree, or worse another vehicle. Sorry to be so negative but I've learned a few things in the last 60 years, mostly from doing things like you're doing in this video. Enjoy your awesome car but take good care of it also. They're not making 'em anymore!

Thanks Stephen, I appreciate your concern. You might be relieved to know that I don't drive like that unless we are filming for a video. @RacingRejects 6 жыл бұрын
That’s a hard question to answer because this car was in ROUGH shape when Wesley bought it and it has been refined over the last few years. Depending on the car, you could easily spend $2k - $5k+ to make it reliable and safe. Check out our video: HOW-TO: Daily Drive a Classic Musclecar; it will give you a good idea on what you might need for your car.
